"ARC" stands for "Affinity, Reality, and Communication." It is a Scientologist's synonym for 'love' or 'affection' applied to a person to manipulate or control that person, and generally make a person's Intents and Postulates equal the Church's. "Love bombing" could be an example of ARC. Simply standing outside a Org or Mission and being friendly to people and inviting them to talk or take a free personality test is an example of ARC.

When an upset in this process occurs, it is called an "ARC Break." For an example, a Scientologist might be flirting with a potential member, or being agreeable and otherwise friendly, and then accidently says something the potential member found negative, insulting, or distasteful. The loss of affinity is called an "ARC Break." There are training routines (TRs) to work out this problem and get ARC back.
