Dr. Albert Cowie accused for writing false prescriptions for

Dr. Albert, an Amherst radiologist, admitted to writing fraudulent painkiller prescriptions. He is known for his expertise in radiology. He is also a recovering drug addict who can be imprisoned for three years.
Cowie, 37, who graduated from the Buffalo School of Medicine, was the second doctor to appear in Buffalo Federal Court and admit to the fact that he wrote fraud prescriptions for painkillers.
He also admitted to another point that he used them to feed his own drug problem.
Cowie wrote illegal prescriptions for his ex-wife, and for two others because of which he received some painkillers for his own use.
He pleaded guilty for two felony charges, health care fraud and obtaining controlled substances by fraud for which he will be sentenced up to 33 months in prison.
He was arrested last year outside his offices at the Diagnostic Imaging Associates and was initially accused of writing almost 280 illegal prescriptions over a four-year period.
He has also been charged for establishing a relationship with a prostitute, he injected her with heroin and later gave her prescriptions for Xanax and Percocet.
Cowie did not admit to those crimes but later he did agree to the allegations at the root of those charges.
The future of Cowie’s medical license is still unsure. There are chances that even after serving his term in prison, he might not get his license back, ever.
