Indefinite suspension of medical license: Dr. Timothy Han

Dr. Timothy Han had his license indefinitely suspended by the N.C. Medical Board, in addition to being fined $5,000. The Surf City doctor had offices in Jacksonville and Wilmington. He tested positive for anabolic steroids, self-administered and self-prescribed testosterone and abused opiates, found the board. His patient care quality was also not up to the mark of North Carolina standards of medical practice.
Han denied the accusations on Monday, and said they weren’t valid. He was arrested on December 25th, 2012, after he allegedly threw a water bottle at his wife. Even though those charges have been dismissed, the police are looking into his involvement in illegal distribution of drugs.
Police found vials of medications, 3 handguns, $22,000 and spring-loaded knives when they searched his two homes and travel bags. They also found evidence to show that Han had had steroids shipped to his medical practice. When he was locked up, he went into withdrawal and did not sleep.
Han used to practice anti-aging and addiction medicine, and was also certified as a dentist. There were testimonies to show that he didn’t perform appropriate physical exams and failed to obtain prior medical records, in the case of two different patients.
On August 20th, 2013, Han said he would not practice medicine until the board cleared him. In May the same year, the board found that he tested positive for steroids.
