Dr. Norman Williams to spend 12 years behind bars.

Dr. Norman Williams, a Moline doctor was taken into custody and charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault. The 66-year-old doctor who practices at Gastroenterology Consultants in Valley View Drive in Moline, Illinois was accused of sexually assaulting two patients in two separate incidents in his office during an examination.

Detective Scott Williams of the Illinois Police Department clarified that the victims, who were patients of the doctor, came forward made the allegations of the sexual assault. He also added that there could be more victims. Dr. Williams turned himself to the police. The State records reveal that the doctors Illinois medical license carried a previous reprimand for improperly prescribing controlled substances in Georgia and was previously disciplined for the same. What has to be noted that it just a reprimand and doesn’t affect the licensee’s ability to practice.

Dr. Williams posted the required 10% of his $100,000 bond and got out of jail.
Gastroenterology Consultants didn’t offer to reveal how they intend to act on the physician’s status given the accusations and pointed media to his attorney, William Gerry Schick, who didn’t respond either.

The doctors Silvis house is currently up for sale.

The Moline Police were looking for information about Dr. Norman F. Williams and urged people to contact the criminal investigations division.

The doctor faced a minimum of 16 years in prison for molesting patients.

The judge Frank Fuhr, added that Williams, who was born in Jamaica, schooled in Europe, practiced in Canada until he moved to Moline few years back and more recently in Florida since his arrest, didn’t have ties to keep him in the Quad Cities. The doctor was deemed as flight risk, prompting the judge to remand the physician in the custody of the Rock Island County Jail.

Four female patients testified that the gastroenterologist sexually abused them during exams leading to the conviction. During the doctor’s sentencing hearing a new attorney, Nate Nieman, made his appearance and asked for a continuance so he could become familiar with the case. The attorney also added that he would pursue a motion for a new trial. The judge ordered Williams into custody but also okayed the delay. Apart from his arrest more than two years ago, this was the first time the doctor was actually going to be behind bars. the next date for sentencing was set.

After three hours of deliberations the Rock Island County jury found Norman F. Williams, 68, guilty on four counts of criminal sexual assault. The Circuit Judge Frank Fuhr, sentenced Williams to three consecutive four-year sentences on three of the counts, the doctor must serve 85 percent, or more than 10 years, of the sentence.
the conviction on the fourth count was vacated by the judge Fuhr citing an issue with jury instructions at the trial.
Rock Island County State’s Attorney John McGehee added that he would have a dialogue with the victim involved with that allegation and decide if they want to retry Williams on the charge.

Williams will be behind the bars at Rock Island County Jail till the hearing on a defense motion to reconsider the sentence is held.
