KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A longtime Kalamazoo psychologist has been facing criminal sexual conduct charges involving a client. These charges have stemmed from an incident that happened sometime between 2014 and 2015.
Dr. David Thayer violated the law that states that mental health professionals are prohibited from engaging in sexual contact with a patient. He thus faces three counts of fourth degree charge of criminal sexual conduct.
Newschannel 3 went to Dr. Thayer’s office on Wednesday to have his comments on the charges but it was closed at that moment.
Donald Sappanos, his attorney, said that a search warrant was issued on Thayer’s office related to these allegations in October.
Sappanos said that there were no charges filed but the doctor’s license was suspended. The license also reinstated on Friday though, when the prosecutor’s office filed the charges.
Sappanos said that his client maintains his innocence and decent conduct, and nothing indecent has ever happened in his 32 year career.
There have been no complaints filed against him till date, especially complaints of this nature. Not even one. He added saying that he has complete trust on Thayer having a spotless, absolutely clean history.
Thayer was indicted on the basis of these charges on Tuesday, and was asked to pay for the posted bond.
The first hearing is scheduled for May 10.
