Former Corrections employee convicted of insurance fraud
The man who used to be in charge of health services for South Carolina inmates is now an inmate himself.
Russell Campbell has been convicted of insurance fraud and sentenced to three years in prison.
The state attorney general\’s office says the 40-year-old was convicted Wednesday of obtaining property by false pretenses and making a false statement related to a life insurance policy he took out on his father in 2002.
The judge also ordered Campbell to pay more than $50,000 to Auto Owners Life Insurance company — that\’s the amount the company paid when Campbell\’s father died in 2005.
Campbell resigned from the state Corrections Department earlier this month.
