I was on my way to work when on the highway I got a flat tire in my rental car (my car was getting repaired) So I called the rental roadside assistance line. They said it would take apx 2hrs and needed to know the city I was in. Being on the highway I wanted to get it taken care of ASAP and I was recommended to call State Police and they would be able to assist faster. The state police said they would send someone out to help. 10 minutes later a tow truck was there. All I had was a flat tire. But it was on my drivers side so I couldnt change it on the highway and the ramp was too far to drive without damaging the vehicle. When A1 arrived the worker told me it was a $90 charge. I was blown away from the price, but I needed it done and after calling the police they must take it off the highway. I didnt have the cash on me. All I had was a debit card (not on me, either) but he said it was cash only. So I told him and he said the car was now going to have to be impounded. So even though it would take 30 seconds to call my father and ask for the card number over the phone, I had no option. So this rediculous $90 fee was racking up. After getting back to the tow office it had come up to $242!!! But they had no problem then with me calling to get my card number. I had asked if there was any way of reducing this, after all, I only had a simple flat and it was a little crazy that they were required to tack on the impound fee. Nope, no exceptions. But this time they would take my card over the phone? Not for $90 but they did it for $242. They said it was state police fee, they had no say. And they didnt even change the tire! To make things worse, because I was so late for work at my new job because of the flat I got fired. This charge put my negative in my bank account and I was a little upset at the situation. I went to the state police dept the next day. They tell me its the tow company rates, they have nothing to do with it. Ok, so A1 gave me the run around. After calling the tow company back I asked why I couldnt just pay the $90 with my card if they called it in. Cash only at that point. So I asked why that changed when the price did. I was told it was because I needed to sign the reciept. I could have just as easily went down there after to sign it. I didnt need them to impound it, I just needed the donut. They refuse to remove any charges and said it wasnt their problem. A1 Affordable Towing is a total scam and they rob people of their money, even when they dont have it!
