My 2004 Lincoln Navigator had been shifting odd for a couple of weeks. I inquired about “free diagnosis” at Humble Aamco. They told me to bring it is to give me an estimate free of charge. I was called later saying they needed to take the transmission apart because it had major issues, and kept overnight. I was concerned about the cost, the manager assured me it would be free of charge. The manager called the next day saying the transmission was shot and he didn’t know how I even drove it in. I told him the Navigator only had 60,100 miles on it, how could it be “shot?” He said I guarantee you it is, and it will be $2000 for a new one. I called Lincoln (being that it was just out of warranty – I didn’t take it there first) they said that was really hard to believe, and I could bring it in for a $75 diagnosis fee. I told the manager, he told me well, we have to put your transmission back together, and that is going to run you $500. I threw a fit and reminded him that he said there was no fee for diagnosis. He claims there wasn’t but there was a fee for tearing the transmission apart and putting it back together. I was furious and should have called the police, but I was so scared that they were going to find a way to charge me the $2000. I told them I was towing it, do not put it back together, and paid my $250. I had it towed to another reputable shop with my box of parts…the shop owner said they had a transmission from a different car in the box! I was freaking out. I called and the manager said “oh I’m so sorry – it must have been the wrong box.” I went to pick up the “right” box, took it to the shop, and he said the parts had been filed down. (Not normal wear!!!) Needless to say, I had to pay $2000 for a new transmission. He put in a new one, and the car was doing the SAME EXACT THING!!!! He diagnosed it, and for $200 he replaced some plugs. I was so sick that they had cost me $3000 for a $200 service… PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS FREAK!!!!!!!! Screwed by humble aamco spring, TexasU.S.A.
