Abraxas hurts kids, I worked there for a long time. I was constantly told to ignore very bad things. One time a woman came to work after midnight drunk and spent over an hour “taliking” to a young resident about things of a personal nature. Also I was there when a staff member brought a cellular phone for a child to be able to contact her at home. On another occasion, children were given chewing tobacco, Rx medicaions and alcohol by staff members. A child was assaulted antd sent to the emergency room when he was attacked in a social area and no staff members were present to witness the child being hurt. Several times there were children alone in closed offices with adult staff members and reports of abuse were never sent to DPW. They do not value the good hard working employees that they have. We were never given breaks and frequently we were out of legal ratios so the number of children to adults were not within legal limits. THere were many times that no staff member had a radio to ask for help if needed and when fights happened the staff was left unable to control the rioting. Everything at Abtraxas was a huge cover up and a lie on top of another lie. They scam the system, they scam the employees, but most of all the children suffer. They get no treatment, only constant ridicule and unnecessary discipline. I’m so embarassed to even tell people that I worked there. The reputation is terrible and the management creates a shady, unhealthy enviornment.
