Adam Cole Duer has surrendered his license after facing accusations of gross negligence. The accusations were in connected to him prescribing opioids. The Sutter Medical Group family doctor was asked to surrender his medical license by the Medical Board of California effective January 1st, according to a news release from the agency. He practiced in Sacramento and Roseville.
He had allegedly prescribed opioids to an addict in addition to excessively prescribing to five patients. Officials said that an accusation was filed against Duer in 2014. This behavior dates back to 2011, with him prescribing OxyContin, Percocet, hydrocodone, Fentanyl, methadone and Xanax.
Thanks to him, one patient was able to receive 30 mg (400 of them) oxycodone pills every fortnight along with 200 hydrocodone tablets every month. In this particular case, Duer knew he was under investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency at that time. Yet, he continued refill the patient’s prescriptions for the drugs.
Sutter Health spokesman, Gary Zavoral revealed that Adam Duer had been working as a physician with Sutter Medical Group since 2007. According to the complaint, Duer resides at the location of Sutter Medical Plaza/Natomas – Suite A at 2210 Del Paso Road.
