I am a sergeant in the Air Force and bad credit absolutely frowned upon…so imagibe my surprise when I received multiple letters in the mail stating that I owed a balance, and that this collections company would setrle for half…I thought it odd because I have never used said service, and that company specified was taken over almost five years ago! I called afni and was redirected at least two times when finally a female answered just simply hello. She tried to verify my identity by using very basic questions “”does your social security number end in 10? Where you born in February? I could tell she was waiting for me to spout the correct I formation…then she replied that they must gotten the wrong person and that I wont receive anymore letters. I also called the origional creditor just to verify and was basically laughed at…thank you for wasting for time!!!

A collection notice appeared on my credit report by a company called AFNI which was for $42 and claimed to be owed to verizon. I haven”t had an account from verizon since 2001 and have never received any notice from them about an outstanding bill. I decided to sue them and googled them. I was delighted to find that several people had already posted on this site about the exact same thing. An outdated verizon bill that they didn”t even knew existed. Thank you! I”m still trying to find their street address to serve them legal papers.
Afni Reviews & Complaints
A company called Afni sent me a collection notice for an AT&T bill of over $500. The problem is that I have never once had AT&T in my life; I’ve only had Verizon. Furthermore I’ve never had any problems with Verizon and I’ve paid my bill on time and never lost service. So these fraudsters have tried to charge me over $500 to collect on a service I’ve never once used or paid for in my entire life! Plus they said in the letter that I only had 30 days to pay up. Not only is Afni trying to get me to pay money for something that I do not owe, but they are threatening to try to damage my credit if I don’t pay! They are harassing me for a debt that I’ve never had. This is extortion and is illegal! If you get a collection letter from Afni Collections, Inc. do not pay them! Afni is a scam and a fraud and you can’t cave into their illegal harassment! And now I’m worried that my credit will be damaged because these fraudsters will ruin it or that they’ll hand over my fake debt to another scammy company!
Afni Reviews & Complaints
A few days ago i received an outstanding bill from this collection agency called Afni. This bill was from 1995 when i had service with verizon. So i called Afni because this bill did not sound familiar. I talked to this collector named Amber, and she was very polite and she explained that this was a final bill that i had from when i lived in Chicago. the only reason that i did not receive this bill back in 1995 was because i had moved out of the city and i forwarded my mail with the post office but final bills do not get forwarded by the post office so i never knew about the bill. the original amount of the bill was for 302.50 but Afni offered to close the account for 50% off which is 151.25 but i went ahead and paid the full amount with my debit card and yesterday i went on their website and printed a receipt that shows that i paid the full amount. Afni was really helpful in this matter and i am glad that they brought this outstanding bill to my attention.

Afini Collections used my husband and my address, used an old Verizon Telephone Number of ours, going back seven years ago, researched my daughter”s out-of-state address, sent her a bill with our address, and accused her of owing a bill for over $350.00! She never had a Verizon Account. Futhermore, how did they go about accessing Verizon”s data, and sending my daughter a bogus bill to my daughter”s current address. This against the law.
Afni Reviews & Complaints
Afni Collections company in Bloomington IL sent me collections charge from year 1996 for $629 with Verizon phone company with settlement charge $525.38 even I has been discharged from debtors in 1996 due to my bankruptcy. They are trying to recover debt even charges between year [protected] on Verizon phone company in New York. I never used Verizon in those years in NY, I used New York Bell phone company, but obviously Verizon and Afni are trying to find bogus charges. They should be stopped from this fraud.
Afni Reviews & Complaints
AFNI Collections has horrible customer service! I work in customer service and you need to be able to talk to people like they’re humans not just money. I was extremely frustrated when I received a bill from Verizon for a phone that was disconnected in 2006. I never received anything from Verizon or from Afni Collections until today, almost 3 years after the phone service was shut off. I asked the customer service rep to assist me with a dispute and she basically told me no, we want our $30. I then asked for a supervisor 4 times, after the agent flat out refused to help me. I was placed on hold and never spoke with anyone. The agent also informed me that my account was about to go to collections after only receiving one notice. I never even got the agents name, since the first thing out of her mouth was account number and name. I’ve dealt with collections agencies in my line of work and Afni Collections is by far the worst in customer service.
Afni Reviews & Complaints
Afni collections sent me a settlement letter for $50 on an old Cingular bill dating back to 2002, and i authorized them to get $50 dollars from my account. They took $75 dollars of which i did not authorize and gave me the run around on giving me my money back stating they had no record of their company taking $75 dollars from my account and could not see where they took the $75 dollars from my account and i needed to prove it to them. They wanted me to fax them my bank records before they would issue me a refund. Then stated that if a refund was to be issued it would take a month in a half to refund me, when it took them less that 3 days to take the money from my account. pklease anyone dealing with Afni do not give them your credit card number or debit card number.
Afni Reviews & Complaints
AFNI has attached my address to someone elses debt as it appears that me and the debt have similar names. I have confirmed with them that my social security number does not match that of the real debtor. They have placed a collections account on my credit file using my name and home address only. I have contacted them by phone and by letter and they refuse to discontinue their threats and harassing letters and calls. I”m not sure what my options are for suing these ###, but this is my first step prior to contacting a lawyer.

Afni has reported to my credit bureau a fraudulent debt that was paid to Alltel. Every time I dispute they just reage it to make it look like it is a current default. Afni Inc. alleges that i owe ATT $80.00 dollars which afni claims ATT has placed this acc with them for collections. ABSOLUTE LIE! After getting a better deal from a local cable company (Time Warner) for a service bundle of cable TV, digital phone service and high speed internet, i took the offer, which involved transferring the ph service from ATT to cable service comp. At the time of of transfer acc balance at ATT was $0.00 ATT continued billing me for four month after the transfer. Each month i got in touch with ATT just to hear them telling me how sorry they are. i should not be concerned with the bills because they are taken care of… EACH moth.. for four months… After four months, i got tired of playing their game, thinking they would have to get their their heads out of their butts to do their accounting, i electronically sent them $80.00. They caught it. within weeks i received an ATT refund check for the amount i sent them with a note saying i must have made a mistake since i didn”t owe… etc, (ATT Ref Ck #[protected] amount: $80.00 issue date 07/01 /2008) Wouldn”t one think its done? heh, heh, heh, he… we are dealing with ATT, don”t you know… A month later, i received a collections notice from Money Control, informing me they are collecting for ATT. I sent them the info i had ck number the date the amount and asked ” if i owe money to ATT why are they giving me a refund after i sent it? which evidently made sense, after checking to see if i am telling them a story or… A month and a half or so later i received a collection notice from Collection Bureau of America, who bought the bill from the first dip… Of course they received the same info, the ck number etc… The third came from Bay Area Credit Service LLC after getting the same info to check and seeing nothing to collect who promptly sold the bill, after harassing me a bit… to our friends at CBCS. who tagged some more money on the original “debt”, and receiving the same info wrote back to tell me they would settle the “bill” for only $43.50! Now there is a collector with a heart… That brings us to Afni inc. they did like the others, sent me a collections notice, i sent them the same info, and… About a week ago i became aware of some changes… on files at credit reporting agencies, Afni alleging that ATT placed the account for collections with them BUT… WAIT! I am going to post (cut and paste) their email to BBB after I filed a complaint with them (state attorney of Illinois, state attorney of california where i live, FTYC and bunch of boards as well) AFNI”s reply to BBB/ central Illinois: This is in response to your letter to Afni, Inc regarding the above referenced matter. We appreciate your assistance in bringing our consumer”s concerns to our attention. In that regard, The communication through the Better Business Bureau, as well as his simultaneous multiple emails to various people within Afni, is the first indication that Mr. Celasun disputes the account, despite an initial notice being mailed to his current address on April 22, 2011. In response, I have requested an investigation and validation to be mailed directly to the consumer. This may take up to 30 days. He is welcome to manage his account online at www.afnicollecitons.com or call a Consumer Relations Specialist at [protected]. Thank you. Sincerely, Lisa Anderson Compliance Manager Afni, Inc. 404 Brock Drive OOOOOOO Lisa, Lisa, Lisa… How did that go again? “on or about March 2001, AT&T notified Afni the above referenced account remained due and owing from Mr. Celasun. This account was established on March 1, 2008 and was considered delinquent by the creditor on October 24, 2008. The service address for the account was his still-current address. Looks like Afni is a tat confused… how, just how did ATT deemed appropriate to contact Afni “on or about March 2001 an acc established on October 24 2008? See, people what i have to deal with…? When I got the wind of it they are claiming i owe money to ATT but should pay them… but weren”t too pleased with the info, a particulars of refund check, etc. and in retaliation flagging my credit files with “collections” notices… as I mentioned above, with the State Attorney”s Office, California, State Attorney”s Office Illinois, FTC What they are trying to do is legal? HAH! They are claiming ATT referred the alleged acc at alleged amount TO AFNI on 2011. ( like they contacted afni “on or about year 2001 for an acc established 2008) Total falsification of records which i have copies of. See what they are trying to do? By claiming without shred of evidence ATT placed the said bill with Afni. I am an old man. i am deaf cannot use phone for voice communication. I have worked hard to stay on top of bills THEIRS IS THE ONLY COLLECTIONS NOTICE ON MY FILES AT CREDIT REPORTING AGENCIES…EVER! I will pursue this matter, will post for all to see what they are about. Thank you. for collections (ATT DID NOT. They placed it with “Money Control” ) they are trying to extend the life of the alleged debt.

Afni sent a letter offering a supposed great deal of offering a settlement for only $400 for a debt that was originally over $1000. The only thing is… this is a time barred debt. The statute of limitations is up on this debt and was up over 6 years ago. This debt was from 1997, and another collection agency had already tried to collect on it. When we sent them a cease and desist letter telling them that the SOL was up, and not to contact us again, they apparently sold it to these losers. We are sending them a cease and desist letter and telling them the same as we told the last zombie debt collector. If they think that we are going to jump at this so-called deal and pay them they are nuts. Not happening.

Afni sent me a supposed collection notice for a supposed phone bill from 13 years ago when I supposedly lived somewhere on the mainland. I have lived in Hawaii for over 15 years, so this was a falsely billed collection. Further, they “demanded” a copy of my current driver’s license, Social Security card, and passport picture!!! Who are these people? Why can’t they be stopped?

Afni, inc. tried to collect on some disputed dept that T-MOBILE had written off. The amount was only $32.68, but I was unwilling to fork over any money in this difficult economy. I investigated Oregons law and found out that I was entitled to all information regarding the debt. When I tried to get afni to fax over the information they hung up on me. Subsequent phone calls finally resulted in the ommission that they were cancelling my account with them : i.e.- they would no longer pursue the matter and would not report anything to the credit reporting agencies. I am still waiting for this confirmation in writing, but I am not holding my breath.

Afni-Bloom has also damaged my credit by reporting a debt from 1998! I knew nothing about this debt, and received no notification from them regarding this! I caught when I was applying for a mortgage- my scores dropped more than 30 points! The lender has required me to pay this ($1,200.00). I”ve disputed this with the Bureau”s only to be told it meet FCRA standards. Now it will show as paid but remain on my report as a collection item! Is there anything I can do?

Also just received a letter from these jerks dated 4/25/2008. The letter was sent to my father”s new house, and even he was surprised because I haven”t received anything there since 2001. The bill is for $78.40 and they say that they will accept half. When I telephoned them, the guy right away gave up my last four digits on my SSN and an old address from 1999. I went to college there, so of course that is where they must have got the address, but I never had a cell phone back then. The original creditor is from Verizon Northwest Inc. which I thought it was called Verizon Wireless, but when I told the man I have never used Verizon before he stated that it originated from a GTE account which switched to Verizon. Still very fishy. I”m reporting them to BBB, and the Federal Trade Commission [protected] and also the Consumer Protection Agency in Washington: [protected]. I was also advised to write Afni Inc. having them send me a verification of this debt. Everyone needs to report these folks in order for them to be stopped.

as well as many other people i have recieved a “settlement offer” for the amount of “$50.00” on a “$539.18” t-mobile bill that was past due since 2003. i called the 800 # and spoke to a man who @ the time sounded as if he really was from a debt collection agency and when he asked for my last four # of my SS # he gave me my name which threw a red flag up. also as i was taking a second look @ the letter they mailed me, it didnt really look like a letter that a collection agengcy would mail out(usually collection agencies are through lawyers offices). another thing that came to me was, why if t-mobile hasn”t attempted to contact me about this so called matter, 6 years later would a collection agency do so. i checked my credit report and there isnt even such a thing on it, so obviously this fake company with fake workers is a real scam and the people on the other end of the phone need to be caught and arrested for stealing not only peoples money but their identity and information and everyone needs to be more cautious on supplying info over the phone or through the mail!!!

August 14, 2007 I receive a negative inquiry on my credit report from AFNI, INC for an original creditor Verizon. I have never had an account with Verizon. This company AFNI has made my life and credit score pure hell. This negative collection reporting has taken my credit score from 701 (good) to 573 (very poor) score rating. I am in the process of buying a house and I just keep receiving denials about my credit having a collection debt, which I knew this was not true. So I order my credit report to find out this company AFNI had put a collection of a bill for 1,846 from original creditor Verizon. I alert all 3 Credit Bureau of this company AFNI, reporting a delinquent account to my credit. Again I do not have an account with this company and further more I do not even own a cell phone or home phone number in my living area they do not even offer Verizon service. I spoke with a representative name Charlene with AFNI, per representative this was a bill in Lynchburg, VA for a phone number in 1994 I have not live at the address they provided nor had a phone number of 804 for Lynchburg VA. Lynchburg VA area code has been 434 for the past 10 years. When speaking to the representative she stated that Verizon brought out some company with this bill of 1,846.00 and they had the account open in January 2006 and recently reported the collection to the credit bureaus July 2007. Never once I had any type of collection nor any reporting to the bureaus about having any thing from Verizon or AFNI it all of sudden pop up on credit report; no statements, no itemized bill or nothing was sent to me. Speaking to about 10 representative of Verizon Wireless and Verizon as well as the fraud department they could not provide anything for the account number or my social security number. This company AFNI has made my life miserable as well as ruin my credit. The problem with Verizon they are allowing this company to use their name and to continue to practice fraudulent tactics using there company name. I have spent money and time just to clear my name and seem like I am not getting anywhere. Per Charlene she said the company take this information from a public record but would not provide me with the company that have such public record she stated it’s only for collections agency. This is a complete fraud to consumers and ruining people credit reports and scores. Never once have I had a debt reported to the credit bureau in reference to any type of bill for Verizon or AFNI. Please Complaints.com let the publics know what this company is doing to people lives. Thank You, John Banks, Virginia.

Back in March of 2007, I received a letter from Afni, Inc. demanding payment for an old cellular bill. Immediately, I contacted the “creditor” (Alltel) and asked for a copy of the $344.28 bill from over 6 years ago. Alltel told me that since the account was closed, they could no longer provide me a bill/statement. I have asked that (Afni, Inc) prove this bill and they cannot do so either. They ask me dumb questions like… did you ever have Alltel service? Obviously this is all a confusing ploy intended to extract what money they can out of people who can’t/won’t do their homework. The bottom line is that if there is a legitimate charge, there is a legitimate bill/statement. Unfortunately, the amount of money we are discussing is too low to hire an attorney. After seeing the hundreds of complaints in this forum I am convinced that something must be done. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in teaming up and shutting down this ridiculous company.

Buying “zombie” and “false” debt from AT&T, MCI, and AT&T Mobility! We also need to file complaints with the companies that are selling our information! Accordiing the the FBI”s definition of money laundering, these cases would seem to apply, here, because most of the monies they are collecting are NOT going to the original companies to begin with! Check it out on the FBI”s website! Also I”ve reported the companies that have sold our information to the Attorney General”s Office, Georgia State Consumer Protection Agency, The Governor of Georgia, and to Peter King, director of Homeland Security. Who knows who and where OUR information is being sold to! This is real scary! I”ve also e-mailed Nancy Polski, Speaker of the House, demanding that something be done about this! I would highly suggest we all take similar action! It may help change things to help secure our personal information! Good Luck everyone, our country is going where, and what”s with the handbasket? Got a letter from AFNI indicating that my husband owes $976.16 for an account that he had in New York. He supposedly kept this Verizon account current from 12/1993 to 12/1994. According to Linda at AFNI Inc, the debt was taken over by AFNI in May 2007. We have never lived in New York, we never had the phone number listed in the letter which is in New York. We have never received a bill from Verizon, all these years that we’ve lived in California at the same address that this letter was delivered. This is a scam! AFNI must have purchased my husband’s name, address, and ss# from an irreputable agency. Scary thought!

Hello all, Any suggestions for what I should include in my second response letter to Afni? Here is all my info: Around 2/11/2008 I received a Collection Notice from Afni, Inc. (PO Box 3427, Bloomington, IL [protected]). They were asking for $81.11 from Verizon Select Services. Inc. This was for a phone number that I have not had since around 2000, which was closed and paid off at the time. Research online immediately revealed a volume of complaints of fraudulent bills from Afni. I didn”t bother to call them. I wrote a letter saying the following: 1) I dispute the validity of the debt. 2) I”ve never had an account with Verizon nor have I ever been contacted to pay any sort of balance with them 3) The FTC and Fair Debt Collections Practices Act prohibit debt collection by a third party after statute of limitations (4 years in California, 5 years in Illinois, where I used to reside). Therefore, this debt cannot be legally be requested or reported to credit reporting agencies. 4) I request immediate cease and desist of all contact with me unless the original creditor has contacted me first with a certifited letter. 5) Afni must file a letter with all credit agencies that I have disputed the claim of this billing In retrospect, I should have just disputed the validity of the debt, cited the statute of limitations and requested a cease and desist – Best NEVER to even remotely imply you”d be willing to pay bill. Also, I CC”ed the VP of Afni Inc, the Attorney Generals for Illinois and California, and the Federal Trade Commission in DC. — About 11 days later, I received the following curious response: “This letter is to inform you that in accordance with 15 USC 1692c(c) we are acknowledging your request to cease communication with you regarding this debt. Per your request, we have validated the account with the original creditor, including account number and balance due. The name of the original creditor is Verizon. The original creditor”s address is 1135 E. Chocolate Ave, Hershey, PA 18033. This letter is from a debt collector. Consumers have the right to inspect their credit. Afni, Inc. 404 Brock Drive PO Box 3427 Bloomington, IL [protected]” …ALSO included was an empty, blank return envelope, and a “bill” dated April 16, 1999. …The “bill” said the following: “05483- BILLING FOR GTE LONG DISTANCE COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES BILLING FOR GTE LONG DISTANCE ADDING AND CHANGING SERVICE [protected] SERVICES PREVIOUSLY BILLED BUT NOT USED GTELD INTOUCH 24 DAYS @ 3.00/MO 2.40-FS Q 0407 CUSTOMER SERVICE REMOVAL ORDER [protected] GTELD INTOUCH CREDIT 24 DAYS @ 3.00/MO 2.4 FS Q SUBTOTAL .00 TOTAL .00 TOTAL FOR GTE LONG DISTANCE CHARGES .00 — I laughed when I saw this. They say they “acknowledge” the FDCPA (which I had cited in my letter). Yet they won”t say “we made a mistake, never mind” (hey, ya never know…). Instead, they still vaguely slip in a bill, hoping that I”ll still pay them – which I will not. I”m not sure what entirely to make of this “bill” – anyone can fabricate a bill. And this one seems intentionally confusing – it says I owe total “.00” and yet my final bill is $81.11…? So now, I have to write them back a second time and reiterate that they can”t ask for collection on this “bill”, per statute of limitations, and they must cease contact with me and confirm that my account is closed. ——> Does anyone out there have any suggestions for other things to include in my reponse? Thanks for your prompt insights. I have no doubt that I am obliged to pay such a fraudulent balance and that I”m protected by the law. I”ve pulled all three of credit agencies of my report and they are all perfect, with nothing reported from Afni. So far, the most annoying thing has been the giant waste of time. Good luck to you all! Susan Los Angeles

I am a former employee of Afni, Inc. in Bloomington. I had to quit after my morals were pushed to the limits with what supervisors/coaches wanted to me to say to consumers. It was by far…the worst company I have ever worked for in my lifetime of 42 years. I was appauled. If anyone…ANYONE wants “inside” information on this company and how to get OUT of paying the bills they THINK owe…just ask. I can tell you how to nip this all in the behind, get your case closed with Afni and have them never contact you again. I wish there were something I could do nationw-wide to expose this company for their standards, morals and HOW THEY TREAT their consumers and employees. Its so very, very sad. Thank you

I am an AT&T customer currently and have never been with Cingular wireless. I recieved a collection bill in the mail from AFNI stating that I had an outstanding debt of $80.50 from Cingular wireless. It gave account numbers and everything. I contact AT&T since they bought Cingular and they varified that there is no outstanding issues with my acccount. I found this site when I was trying to figure out who AFNI was and thought I would add my 2 cents. AT&T has been great and has their fraud department looking into this. I will let you know how it all turns out, but in the mean time if you are a AT&T (formerly Cingular) customer and you get a bill from AFNI, DO NOT PAY IT and contact AT&T immediately.

I am getting harssing letter from some sort of collection agency call Afni inc.for a verzon bill for several amount for a phone bill that suppose tobe created in 2007.I have no ideal what these bills are for or anything about them until now. I call the company who sent them to question about these bills, the service rep that i talk to was very rude and wouldn’t let me ask question concerning these charges and the only thing the rep would say what kind of arrangement did I want to make to pay these charges. My thing is if I owed a bill in 2007 why wasn’t I notified sooner.I have gotten a lawyer and has started legal action against this company.

I am having an insanely difficult time remedying a bogus collection attempt by Afni, which operates in Bloomington, IL. Afni has placed a damaging credit item on my credit report, but has failed to provide me with any details of the debt. The Denver telephone account in question was paid in full and closed five years ago. There is nothing to verify the alleged debt for me, though Afni had no problem verifying the debt for the credit reporting agencies when I disputed the account. After requests on Sept 11 and Sept 12 (telephone and written) for Afni to mail me a list of itemized charges nothing was sent. I called them on Oct 13, and they informed me that a “cease communication” request kept them from communicating at all, despite the fact my certified letter (which they received) prohibited phone calls BUT expressly requested a mailed paper copy of the bill. They assured me today that it would be sent out by USPS as per my initial request. My credit report was fantastic before this. Now it is damaged, and I still don”t know what the alleged debt is for. I attempted to contact the original creditor, but they have no account details since Afni purchased the alleged years-old debt. Additionally, Experian reported that this debt was “verified and updated, ” which scares me. I have not made any payments on the fraudulent debt, though it seems Afni is trying to re-start/re-age the time limit on their collection efforts. I have neither time nor credit reporting protocol on my side. This country”s economic woes are bad enough without Afni”s antics and I can”t believe they are allowed to operate in this manner. If I have any recourse, or if Afni”s business practices are being addressed, I”d love to know. Take care, Jeremy

I am the executor of my father’s estate. Within one month of his death in 2007, I received a collection notice from AFNI claiming that my father owed Verizon a bill of over $6000.00 for a telephone line that was operative for several months in 1997 (ten years ago). The line was located in a state where my father has never lived. I had managed my father’s affairs for several years prior to his death and had never received a bill from Verizon. I checked his credit report and found that there were no bills reported as past due. As I have checked on the internet, I have found numerous other reports of attempts by AFNI to collect bogus bills. I find it very suspicious that within two weeks of my father’s death, AFNI receives a bill for collection that is nearly ten years old.

I am very glad to read that I’m not the only one that’s being hassled by Afni for claims of debts to phone companies. I recieved a letter in 1/08 stating that I owed over $1000 to Cingular Wireless for a bill in 2001! Afni so generously has offered to settle with me for $500 and change. I have been sick over this trying to track down old bank statements and old cell phone bills to clear this up so that it wouldn’t affect my credit. It is particularly peculiar to me since I have had cell service with Cingular Wireless continually since 1998. Why would they still provide me with service if I owed them that sum of money? Also, I have seen my credit report several times since 2001 and never once did this debt show up on it. I have contacted Cingular regarding this to see if they could help me to settle it and they have been of very little help. They show that my account has had a zero balance every month but they are unable to send me a zero balance letter without me providing them with a bank statement showing that I paid them. Now, if we can only figure out where to go from here… I would really like some advice on this situation. If anyone can provide me with any help I would greatly appreciate it.

I am yet another person sent a collection bill for a phone bill from a telephone number I used to have about 10 years ago with Verizon. This is not my bill. When I went to go online to contact afni collecitions, I found a torrent of people that have been subjected to scams from this company. These people need to be stopped. It’s a shame that normal people have to spend time and energy fighting against things that other people try to get you with. You’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around.

I attempted numerous times (8/07, 11/08 and 1/9) to inquire about a fraudulent account and charges from Amp”d mobile in the amount of $1, 179.68. I asked how to dispute charges and file an affidavit proving that the charges were never made by me. The collection company (AFNI) stated that there is no affidavit processing and I am responsible for all charges. I attempted to reach another representative on a different date and have received several messages that the customer service line is experiencing difficulty and cannot take my call. The last attempt to contact AFNI was on 1/3/08 at 10:48 am ct.

I called afni and was told I owe over $75.00 on a verizon account that was closed in June of ’97. I have moved a couple of times since then, however I don’t recall ever getting a bill from Verizon or GTE especially a delinquent one. If the bill is legit though, the statue of limitations concerning old debts has run it’s course. In my state thats 4 years. What afni is doing is buying old debt hoping that you and I are ignorant of our rights sending us letters trying to make us confirm or commit to payment and if we do, we ourselves have rolled back the statue of limitations to zero. I believe it’s called “gotcha.” While I admit I don’t remember back 10 years the circumstances surrounding this account, I don’t believe I owe Verizon a dime. Without admitting anything, I told afni I would get back with them, and I have in the form of a letter stating: I request a copy of the original agreement, complete payment history from the original creditor, and proof that said collection agency has been assigned to the debt. Until I receive such information, I dispute the validity of this debt! Their time has run out, and if they send anything to the credit reporting agencies while this collection is in dispute, I’ve got them by the you know what.
Afni Reviews & Complaints
I checked my credit recently and found a collection from a company I’d never heard of – Afni. This collection account dropped my FICO score something like 70 points – MAJOR damage. This makes it almost impossible for me to get new credit, and could cause my current credit holders to increase my rates. I investigated further by calling Afni (www.afniupsourcing.com/). I finally got someone on the phone who claimed I owe Amp’d Mobile $262. Amp’d Mobile went out of business in 2007. I paid my final bill. The only thing I ever got from them in the mail was the bankruptcy notice for the company. Not only was my final bill paid – I was on auto-pay all along with this company. So if there was additional money due they certainly could have simply taken it out of my account! I explained to Afni that I paid my final bill, and that now they had ruined my credit AND wanted me to pay money that was never due for a company that is out of business. Of course, the response was “This is not my concern.” I was offered a “deal” of paying it off for $150. Of course this would not remove the entry on my credit report – only change it to paid. If you know about credit you know this doesn’t particularly do anything meaningful or positive to your score. So … even if I allow them to extort this money from me – I still suffer from this lie for 7 years! I’ve decided to fight it. I called Afni back several times [protected]). I told them I’m disputing the debt and that I wanted proof faxed to me. After being told by a rude agent that they would fax the “numerous” bill statements they have, they instead faxed me a letter on Afni letterhead essentially saying “This letter confirms you owe us $262.” Uh, no. I called back. Finally reaching someone polite (on try 4), she informed me that I did open a dispute, and that Afni will now investigate the account. If there is any proof (which she said the phone agents don’t have access to!!), they will mail it to me within 30 days. These people are, clearly, liars. Three agents told me they had my bill copies on their screen. Now they don’t know if they have proof or not. Either way – the bottom line is – step one is call and dispute the validity of the debt. If (when) this does not resolve it I intend to make complaints to the Attorney Generals of all involved states and take any other measures necessary to ensure it is resolved. I pay my bills, and I’ve spent many years building good credit. Too many years to have it ruined by a dishonest collector like Afni. I have to imagine that there are many interviews on the net outlining Amp’d’s disastrous billing system – including an admission by the company’s own CEO – will strengthen my case.

I checked my credit report today and I had a collection from AFNI! I never received a notice in the mail or anything at all. They are trying to say they are collecting a debt for Verizon Incorporated. I’ve had a Verizon Wireless account and I closed it and the account was current. The date they are giving is 10/14/2009! My account was active at that time and it was also current! I called TransUnion because that is the credit bureau who posted this collection and it has had a negative affect on my credit score! I’m angry about it!! I filed a dispute and I also reported it as a fraudulent collection. Now I have to figure out the next step to take to have this removed from my credit report! This is ridiculous! I called Verizon twice and both times I was told they have no collections against me. I’m in the process of buying a house and this has caused a huge problem for me. I can’t believe this company is getting away with this! I called AFNI, but it was after hours so, I have to call back tomorrow! This is a crock of bull!!! I don’t know what to do to fix my credit now, but I will not pay them anything! Tonya Tahlequah, OK

I got a collection notice in the mail from Afni, for a tmobile bill I paid over 6+ years ago. They can’t give me any information on where the bill has been for the last 6 years and my ex and I paid if after going our separate ways in late 2017. If this company calls you give them no information they don’t already have and verify nothing with them, that’s how they get you! Someone needs to do something about this company and the companies that sell them this bogus information. They are selling old customer information to afni and afni is banking you you caring enough about your credit that you will just pay it.

I got a letter from a company call AFNI, Inc. They said I had an outstanding debt from a unpaid bill to Cingular for $510.26 and I had to pay it to avoid damage to my credit report. I went to their online website and disputed it and recently received a letter that in accordance with 15 USC 1692g, Anfi will resume collection activities. I do not know where to begin to fight this. The phone number they have is a W. Palm Beach, FL number and I have never lived in Florida my entire life, but somehow they have my parents address in LA. I have always used Cingular, but I have always had the same number and never started a new account with them. They told me that the bills were sent to my parents house and were paid for two out of the four years that the account was open. My mother has always lived in the house I grew up in for the past 29 years she would not let a bill under my name go unnoticed. I called the AFNI and they told me that it was probably my siblings and I should question them. That would never happen in my families household!!! I really need to know what I can do to fight this and get this off of my record. Thanks C.P.

I had a debt to Cingular Wireless in 2003 and was sent a collection notice from Bureau of Collection Recovery, Inc. I paid this debt in January 2004. NOW in 2007 this Afni company is attempting to collect a different amount supposedly turned over from Cingular. I called and attempted to explain that I had receipts and canceled checks from having already paid this, but the representative refused to hear any of it, stating that a negative entry had already been made on my credit report. I have since sent them copies of where I paid this debt once and basically am saying “SUE ME” to Afni because I refuse to pay the same bill twice. And their web site, what a joke!

I had collection letter sent to me from Afni. They claim that I did not pay 4 months of telephone bills while residing in Florida. I never had a phone in my name there. I moved into a rental house at that billing address but did not have that phone number. I explained in writing to them that I did not even live there at the time the billing took place but 2 months after that date. I also explained to them that I had contacted Verizon (formerly GTE) and they agreed that it could have been an error on their part but can no longer locate any documentation negative or positive regarding my alleged account and that they show no open balance. I provided Afni with the name of the Rental Company and the name of the original owners of the home to verify my residential agreement with them in 1997. I asked them to dismiss the charges due to their inability to provide me with a signed document of the agreement or other form of proof. Instead they sent me another copy of they alleged bill which doesn”t even have the GTE or Verizon Logo. I explained to them again that a copy of the alleged debt is not verification of validity but merely represents the error of which I have repeatedly tried to get corrected. They need to stop harassing the wrong people. On another note, How many phone companies would allow service to continue without any payment for 4 months? And since this alleged debt I have had several phones in my name with not so match as a single late notice. What else can I do?

I have been contacted by this “company” and offered a settlement of half of the bill (200.76, asked to pay 11.38) that I owed for Verizon North Inc. Smells fishy since this is NOT the collection agency that was dealing with this (true) debt. (my sister was divorced and I got her a phone in my name and she honestly forgot to pay the bill when she moved again) and we had no idea about this debt until I was attempting to buy my house and checked my credit report and I contacted Verizon MYSELF to get this debt resolved and they sent me to their collection agency, which was NOT AFNI! I recieved this settlement offer from AFNI on 7/7/2009 and I was staying with friends at the time and it came to their address in my name, how they got that information, I have no clue. I did not move into my new house until 7/14/2009 so this was fishy from the start. We got our tax returns so I was settling debt and when tried to go to the website listed on the collection it didn”t exist, and upon a google search I found this site, and thank goodness! BE CAREFUL out there! I hope people do realize that by law a company cannot attempt to collect a debt that is over 7 years old. If you are being billed for a debt that is older than that, the most likely scenario is that it is fraud.

I have followed procedures as outlined by AFNI Collections in order to dispute a claim. I have heard absolutely nothing from this company and their phone now says that it is out of commission and to try back later??? Copy of letter of dispute: AFNI, INC ACCOUNT #: xxxxxxxxxxx 06.28.007 I have received a collection notice from you in regard to a Cingular account. I have tried to call you but I am put in a call rotation and never get an actual person. This Cingular bill is a mistake by Cingular. I had this phone yes. However, I traded this phone in and got a new phone threw Cingular. As I am sure Cingular can verify, my present phone number, (801.xxx.xxxx), was acquired when I surrendered the last phone #, and the last one before that. That they did not turn it off when I traded in my old phone, is unknown to me. I am officially disputing the validity of this claim. I can and will acquire an attorney to represent me, if necessary. This is ridiculous.

I have had a run in with this company before. I too contacted Verizon and they had no record of the debt. This company is similar to another “collection agency” called CAMCO (Capital Acquisitions Management Company). They purchase old debts that have either been settled for a lesser amount, charged off as part of a bankruptcy, or on which the Statute of Limitations for collection of the debt has expired and then attempt to collect on the debt. If they receive so much as one cent from you, the Statute of Limitations starts over and they can begin to report you to the credit bureaus. WE ALL NEED TO DO THIS: Write a letter to your local Attorney General’s office letting them know whats up with this company, then send a cease and desist letter to AFNI letting them know that you know what they are about. This scam only works if you allow yourself to be bullied into paying them. I personally still had records indicating that the bill in question had been paid by money order several years ago so I was able to get them off my back, but if you don’t have such records you can still get rid of them. The Statute of Limitations is there to protect you, who keeps records of paid debts for 10 or more years. They are counting on the fact that you don’t have proof and you will give in. Don’t give in, stand your ground, this is a SCAM!!
Afni Reviews & Complaints
I have read many of the complaints on this board related to Afni, and they all resemble my experience. I successfully disputed the collections letter Afni sent me, and I encourage anyone who is debating how to respond to a letter from Afni to follow the aproach I took. Furthermore, we should all band together to fight back against this fraudulent company by reporting their activities to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection exists to investigate fraud and protect us consumers from companies like Afni. Here is how I refuted the claim Afni sent me: 1. Read your letter. If it is the same as mine, it will give you a deadline to respond in writing to dispute the claim. You must respond by this deadline – the sooner the better. 2. Gather information. In my case, my wife and I have obtained two mortgages since the supposed outstanding balance existed. Nowhere in any of our credit checks or other paperwork did an outstanding balance with Verizon (where Afni claimed the balance existed) appear on our reports. I documented each of these credit checks, as well as ones I did when I bought my car and applied for credit for other things. This outstanding account did not appear on ANY of those credit reports. 3. Draft your letter. Be sure your letter is written without grammatical and spelling errors to demonstrate that you are serious and prepared to follow up on your letter with real action. In my letter to Afni, I cited all of the credit reports I pulled together as stated in #2, and I closed the letter by stating my expectation of a response in my favor within 30 days. I went on to say that Afni”s failure to respond in that timeframe would result in my reporting Afni to the FTC. To show I was serious, I attached a copy of the FTC”s consumer complaint form, which can be downloaded and printed from the FTC website (www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov). 4. Follow up with FTC. Afni responded to my letter within my deadline with a letter that stated they conducted an investigation on my account and as a result of the investigation, closed my account. They stated that Afni would take no further collection action at this time, and that credit reporting agencies would remove the account from my credit report (which is bogus, because as stated above, this never showed up on my credit reports). Regardless of whether or not Afni responds in your favor, you should report them to the FTC. Companies like Afni prey on masses of people who are easily backed down when faced with threats against their credit, regardless of how dubious. Those of us who care about helping our fellow citizens fight back against predator companies like this need to band together and ask our government to work for us. Good luck.

I have received a paper in the mail from Afni Inc stating that I have a balance due totaling $214.70. It states that the original collector is Contel of the South Inc and this is their attempt to collect a past debt. They are offering that if I pay half they will consider my account settled. It says that the disconnected phone number the balance is attached to is [protected]. I don”t have that number nor do I ever recall having that number in the past. I have never even heard of Contel of the South Inc. I am afraid that this is a scam. I tried to call the number they gave me on the letter and the options the automated person gave me are check your balance, pay your balance, and speak to a representative. I tried to speak to a rep however I waited on the line in silence for over ten minutes without anyone responding. I have looked a little bit online to find a lot of other people with the same exact problem. I have found that this is affecting people”s credit and I sincerely hope that you can help before it affects to many more!

I received a bill stating my neice (who just turned 21) has and overdue account with Verizon Norht INC. from several years ago to the tune of 598.05 cents and that they are willing to settle the account for $50.00. Firstly the phone number listed in refernce to this account was never owned by anyone in our family. Secondly my neice has lived overseas for 4 years now and could not have opened an account in PA since she was in teh DOmincan Rebublic and Thirdly she was a under age minor at the time who would have not be LEGALLY able to open an account of any type. We believe this is a scam or identity theft. To my knowledge Verizon didn”t even have stores in that area at that time or offer local phone service which has always been with Bell.

I received a collection and settlement letter(s) at the same time from these people about a week ago. The First letter stated that I owe Verizon $340.00 for a telephone account that was paid off and canceled back in 1999, the second letter receive at the same time sated that they (Afni, inc) will be willing to settle for $170.00 half of the original amount. I called Verizon to dispute and find out about this so-called debt, but they could not give me any information because they only keep information for 7 years and older accounts 8 + years that owe money are sold to Afni or other collection agencies, my account was sold to Afni. I still puzzled why my account was shown as open with a balance. So preceded to contact Afni and the rep was only interested in collecting the money and not willing to listen or help with my problem, instead he started to intimidate me saying that if I decide not to pay they will report the debt to the credit agencies and/or sue me. Anyhow I started to inquire about this collection agency on the web and find out that my case was not the only one, according to this web page and others containing complains about Afni there is something very suspicious about this collection agency, now I do have a couple questions, according to the statute of limitations in my state any for debt considered Open Accounts is 3 years this means that Verizon had the chance to collect this debt from the last time the account had any activity until 2002. My current credit nor my old credit reports show anything regarding this supposed debt with Verizon, however, I did notice but not payed close attention to the fact that Afni had inquire on my credit report back in 2006, why? I wonder if that is legal since they do not give credit or extend loans. A dispute letter was sent out to this collection agency and still pending a reply. I would suggest anyone having this type of problem to first not to agree to pay or settle with this people unless of course the debt is valid, second request a copy of the history from the original creditor and third dispute the debt in writing (you can find more info here www.debt-n-credit-letters.com/) hope this help people facing this problem and help stop this collection agency.

When I tried to call they said they had too many calls and I should go on their WEB Site to have them call me. This morning I got on the Web Site and saw a different number, after holding for 15 minutes I was disconnected. I called Verizon last night and they confirmed that they have no record of me every having that phone number. They are scamming people and I am outraged that they can get away with this practice. I will not pay this bill as it is not mine.

I received a collections notice from Afni, Inc., also Afni Collections stating that I owed Verizon Communications a bill for an outrageous amount of $637.25. I only owe Verizon for my current phone service. Verizon stated that I only owe for my current bill. I have never at anytime ever owed Verizon this amount. If I ever did, I seriously doubt if I would have any type of phone service available to me today. When I went to their website, it is a fake too! These ripoff con artists need to be stopped and prevented from pulling this with anyone else. Also from causing Verizon a needless bad reputation. The phone number they are using on the bill they sent to me is not even my correct phone number. These rip-offs need stopped and punished for what they are doing and trying to do!

I received a fake bill from verizon stating that i owed verizon $391.29. I never received a bill from verizon stating that i owe this amount. I was informed that this was a bill from 10 yrs ago. I told the representative that i have had the same telephone # for 20 yrs now. I did not know the number on the bill.

I received a false bill from Afni, Inc stating that i owe to Bell Atlantic $600 for a phone bill from [protected]. I have never had an account with Bel Atlantic specially at that time since i was still in high school and have never lived at the address that they have specified to me that the account was listed on. I called Afni and they told me to fill out a fraud affidavit and send it to them, which would essentially give them all of my information. I”m will not send it to them but i will put the credit bureaus on fraud alert and will try to complain to some government agencies about this company.

I received a letter Afni this month (04/2007) advising that I owe $229.30 for an old Verizon telephone bill from 1996 to 1997. First of all, I doubt very seriously that Verizon would allow me to continue with my phone service for a year without payment. Also, I am more than sure when I applied for telephone service through their company from 1997 to the present I do not believe I would have been granted service without being advised of a past due bill. This is completely ridiculous. I have been working diligently to keep my credit clear to purchase a house for my two children and myself. Now here comes this company out of the “wood works” to tell me that I have an old account with Verizon that they have been “Asked” to collect on. They ought to be ashamed of themselves for this. If this bill is valid, why would Verizon wait a whole decade to pursue collection. Does that make any sense at all? I don’t think so. Anyway, I really hope this company gets what is coming to it. Attempting to ruin peoples credit is a shameful profession and along the lines of desperation on their part. Regards, Williams, [protected]@juno.com.

I received a letter from this company stating I owed for a bill from Direct TV. I contacted the company and the lady Ginger awnsered stating that it was from 2004 and it was debt that was over 6 years old. I do not owe any bills to Direct TV and this letter was the first I heard about this. I believe this company is running a scam. I am sending a letter to dispute this. Beware of these types of scams.

I received a letter in the mail in July ’07 stating that I owe over $600 to Verizon New York Inc. I immediately called the company and was told that the bill was from [protected] at a location that I am not familiar with hundreds of miles away from where I was living. I explained all of this to the representative “Rachel” and advised her that paying was not even an option. I had phone service where I was living during that time and was working for one of the companies that ultimately became Verizon. She listened and told me to fill out a form on their website. I had a very uneasy feeling about the company so I started filling it out but then I canceled the entire fraudulent claim and advised her to send me the fraud claim package in the mail. She quickly advised that I had another claim for about $64. I am totally confident that wasn’t the case but I listened to her and paid the $64 because it wasn’t worth haggling over. I try to maintain an impeccable credit history over the years, so needless to say I was livid about this mess. I worked for Verizon for quite a few years, had Verizon landline service for many years and have had their wireless service for many years. There is no way on this earth that they would allow me to have service with them if I owed them that money. Thanks to all who complained about this company. I now know my next steps. I will definitely contact an attorney for assistance. Something is not quite right with this company.

I received a letter stating that I owe AT&T Mobility $374.57 and that I had service with them in Killeen, TX in 2006. I paid my bill in full including early termination fees and moved to NC in November of 2005 and obtained service with Alltel in 2006. I contacted the company to dispute the complaint only to find out that they have all of my information including my social security number. As of now I am going to contact my attorney and give him all of this information.

I received a notice from afni that I owe over a thousand dollars to verizon who inherited the bill when they purchased GTE 10 years ago. It claims that they have been trying to reach me to collect this amount. This was the first that I had seen of it. When I finally was able to reach someone on the phone to dispute it they said that I have to go online to submit the dispute. I went online and lo and behold a month later I receive a bill. No other communication was given to me for a bill that was not mine. I was a minor in high school at that time and did not have a phone line. I am writing to the credit bureaus and afni. What else should I do? Advise plz!

I received a settlement letter for Verizon Md. for a past due phone bill from 1997. I had just moved and found it odd that this letter had my brand new address. I called the toll free number and inquired about why hadn”t I seen this on my credit report – ever. And I wondered why they only accepted credit cards, not money orders, or pay by check over the phone… When I talked to the “customer service rep” told me that it wasn”t going to be reported to any credit agency. So of course I said, thats all I”m worried about anyway… and she hung up on me. So they can”t be a real agency because NCO puts your past due stuff on your credit report immediately… so its safe to say don”t send them anything—only pay whats on your credit report.

I received a settlement letter from these people about two weeks ago. The letter stated that it was one of the many letters sent to me about some debt with Sprint from 5 years ago. First of all, first letter I’ve gotten from these people. Second, I’ve never have had Sprint in my life, and at that time I was 15 and didn’t even own a cell phone. So, I’m pretty suspicious and decide to call em. I deny that the debt is mine and some guy says it’s ok… it happens a lot so they’ll take my name and address out the system since they had a completely different SSN. I was glad to supposedly get that over with, but I still felt something was off. I called Sprint just to see if there was ever anything in my name, address, etc. They confirmed that they had no clue what Afni was talking about and suggested I call them back and tell em that Sprint has no records for me. So, I call em and find the guy before lied: my name was still in the system. This other more professional sounding man pretty much told me that I needed to fax them a copy of my driver’s license and SSN card to prove that I’m not the person who they’re supposedly looking for. That sounded a bit shady, so I looked them up and lo and behold found all these other complaints. I sent them a certified letter saying I’m contesting the debt and want it verified that I’m the person they’re looking for, etc. I also contacted the BBB and my Attorney General to give them the heads up. So time goes by and I finally get a response from them. Their “verification” is pretty much a copy of their original letter: the name of the creditor (Sprint) and the balance(369.19). However this time, they included an SSN number… too bad it’s X’d out. So, they didn’t comply to my request and now are stating since they responded they can collect once more. I’m pretty much at my wit’s end and don’t know what to do. I’m probably going to check my credit to see if they’ve affected it so far. But after that, I’m not sure what to do aside from perhaps sending them a final letter stating I refuse to pay them since they got the wrong person.

I received a settlement offer from Afni Inc. on 2-3-07 for a cell phone supposedly purchased through Bellsouth Mobility. This account has been in existence according to Afni, Inc. since 1998. Although this is the first time I’ve received anything regarding this purchase. I do not own nor have I ever owned a cell phone. I still have Bellsouth as my carrier and believe me if I had owed anything to them they would be the first to be collecting or shutting off my service. I hope there is a class action lawsuit against this company.

I received an erroneous bill from this company also. It”s a business that buys old usually noncollectable junk debt and attempts to associate anything or anyone with such debt. I received a bill like thousands of people across the country have stating I owed hundreds or thousands of dollars. In my case it was for someones defaulted Verizon bill for hundreds of collect calls from a Prison totaling 998$?! Report them to the Attorney general of your state. Then contact the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), the FBI, your local police department and Better Business Bureau. Also contact the credit bureaus to resolve this matter. The Attorney Generals of other states have successfully sued such companies and won money for the victims of these types of scams. Afni and other companies like this are semi legit so far under the law and they can ruin your credit unfortunately and have ruined many good peoples names. And there is nothing lower or more despicable in this world than the destroying a good honest persons reputation.

I received collection notice for disconnected phone by Verizon for $82.12. I never had the phone they listed. I have been with another company for 5 years and I never received a bill before regarding such bill from Verizon. How do I save my credit from this apparent rip-off? L. Kanov M.D.

I received my collection notice today 5/18/07 staying that i owe $645.36 to Verizon new York, Inc with a disconnected # for Verizon new York. I called the toll free # [protected] for Afni and waited on hold to speak to someone. He never said his name until I asked before I told him why I was calling. Then told me it was from Oct 1999. Why am I getting this 8 yrs later? The account was under my maiden name for an address in Binghamton, NY under my SSN. I have never been to or lived in NY. Dad is a lawyer and he will be pointing me in right directions to stop this company, hopefully.

I received my debit card bank statement, and had a 82.49 charge from AFNI Inc-Trust along with a reference number. I did not even know what this was, so I contacted the bank. The bank stated that the charge went through, and that I would have to contact the company in Bloomington, Ill. This company does not have a number or site address for me to contact them. I never authorized them to charge anything, and do not know how they got my debit card number.

I received one of these letters like everyone else is describing: $573 for a Verizon account I’ve never heard of, for an area code where I’ve never lived. I was suspicious immediately because it had not appeared on my credit report when I had recently bought a house, the notice was mailed to my new address (which was less than 6 weeks old), and I had never received a bill or overdue notice from Verizon directly. Anyway, after reading similar posts on this and other web sites, I contacted the local police in Bloomington, IL, where AFNI is located. I attempted to file a fraud report with them, and YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS… David White, who works in the police department’s public affairs office, did not take the complaint. Instead he told me that he was a personal friend of the manager at AFNI, whose name is Jeff Shepherd. He said he’d simply forward my complaint on to Jeff. So for those of you who actually want a real live person to pester over this thing, I suggest you ask for Jeff Shepherd at AFNI directly. And if you get no relief there, give a call to his buddy David White at the police department. Maybe if David gets enough complaints about his buddy, he’ll feel compelled to do more than “forward the message.” His number at the police department is [protected].

I received this collection notice from AFNI collections on the 23 of July 07. For the amount of $34.97. Original creditor Alltel. I call the company with the number that was posted. To pay the bill. They tell me it was from 98/99, and that was all the info they had on it. I laughed at the lady on the phone and gave her nothing. I came in the U.S. Military in early 1998. Straight out of high school. I had no job or credit. I never had anything to do with alltel in 1998 or 1999. This is where things get good. I was living in Virginia there was no Alltel in 1998. There was a 360 phone company on post (Ft. Eustis) which I think got bought out by Alltel or switched names. When I do not know. Why I don”t know is because, once i got finished with basic training and school (which at that time we were not allowed to have any type of electronic devices). I left towards the end of 1998 and got stationed in Germany. There is no Alltel in Germany. I am a 110% sure of that. I was living in Germany for 3 years. I then left Germany and got stationed in Ft. Eustis Virginia again. That is when I got my first cell phone. Guess where I got my contract through? Yup! Alltel in 2002. The only cell phone company I have ever went through. I had no problems going through this company. They never mentioned a pass due bill. Never had me in the system before. Nothing about 1998/99. I was with them until 2004. July to be exact. That was when I went back to Germany. I have been here ever since. And yes it was mailed to me here with my German address on it. I check my credit report once a month (that is the truth). I have been doing it for years. There is nothing on it that says anything about this bill. Of course it is not pass the 30 days that it is dated, but do to the many complaints that I have found on this company doing internet searches. I will wait it out and check my credit report on the 1st and see where I stand. Be for I dispute it. In the mean time I will bring this up to the Military Legal department here to see what kind of advice they give me.

I received this notice from AFNI Collections, stating that they “acquired” this account for collections. This notice is saying that I owe nearly $100! I cancelled my QWEST account a year ago, and I paid my final balance to them! I have never received a call or letter from QWEST saying that I still had a balance owed. They do have my correct phone number, but that is easy enough to find since I have had that same number for many years (with QWEST). This is so infuriating, because I the letter looks very real and threatening.

I received TWO collection letters from Afni Collections for Cingular, stating two different amounts. I have NEVER had a Cingular Cellphone in my name, yet the ignorant fellow that I spoke with claimed that I this phone and paid on it from 1999 to 2003. He asked if I knew a person whose name I did not know and associated me with an address I never lived at, but knew my entire Social Security number. I told him that I would not pay the bill and he asked if this was how I handle all my debts. As I said I have NEVER had a Cingular phone in my name nor did I pay for such phone ever.

I recently checked my credit report because of the fact that someone tried to use my name before and so I made it a must to regularly check my credit for fraudulent activities and I noticed that I had a new collection filed which was by AFNI, Inc. Now, I don’t know who the heck these people are but they claim that I have a bill for Verizon for a little over $162.00. I know that this bill is fraudulent becasue I’ve had phone service with my cable company for as far back as 2000! Before that I lived with my sister-in-law for about 6 months at her place where she had her own phone service and before that and right before getting married I lived with my mom who also had her own phone service. So when was all of this to have taken place? The thing is most of the people on her received a letter, AFNI didn’t even send one to me, they just put the bill on credit. I’m writing to the State of New Jersey Attorney General’s office, the FTC, the BBB and to the credit bureaus requesting an investigation as well as requesting them to remove the account. What’s even more crazy is that I have a fraud alert on my report that’s supposed to prevent any new accounts from being opened in my name without my notice and is supposed to also prevent any new collections from being filed without first contacting me to verify the account. None of these steps were taken and I was not informed by mail or by any other form as they are supposed to do legally. I suggest that people also make it a habit to regularly check your credit reports for fraudulent activities and don’t let people like AFNI get away with commit such unethical acts.

I recently received a letter from a collection agency called afnicollections stating that I owe an outrageous amount of $893.65. Now I know for damn sure I don”t owe any money to any phone company in any amount. I tried calling this company to find out about these allegations, but could not get through. After trying to call this number all day, I decided to go to this website to see how else I could get through. after seeing all these complaints of fraud charges/collections I am convinced that this letter is bogus. shut these guys down!!!

I thought I was the victim of some sort of identity theft. That is until I ran across this site. Apparently Afni goes after anybody they choose to. I was billed for a phone bill in Erie Pa. I have never been to Erie. Verizon bills seem to be a common thread here. I have sent proof that I was over 400 miles away when this phone service was initiated. They still, calm as day, asked for money. That was the point where I blew up. I do intend to contact Verizon and the Better Business Burea about Afni’s tactics.
