#Single Parent – I paid the past due amount of my bill as I always do every month and the billing department is telling me this month I have to pay the current bill as well or they are shutting off my power. The current bill is not overdue so they should not be threatening to shut off my power. I”m not to be billed again until 20 July 2018. If you care about your customers you wouldn”t be doing this and from looking at previous complaints I see I am not the only one this has happened to.

8/12, our power bill arrived via paperless billing for $147.67. On 8/27, we paid the bill. It appears on our billing and payment history on the AL Power website. We chose paperless billing to eliminate the risk for lost bills, payments, notices, etc. On 8/30, our account was charged $20 for a returned payment, but we were not made aware that our payment was returned until we received a MAILED LETTER from Alabama Power on SEPTEMBER 10 stating that our payment was returned and a late fee is assessed. This notice also stated that we must pay in full by SEPTEMBER 9!!! or our service would be disconnected. September 11, we returned home from work around 4:45pm and discovered our power was out. I called Alabama Power and spoke with Don – he said we could pay the full bill PLUS the $20 return fee PLUS a $75 reconnect fee. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I needed more information and called the billing department. I waited 15 MINUTES to be connected to a rep named Heather. Heather said we could pay the $147.67 and they would get a tech out to restore our power. We connected with an automated rep and payment was made PLUS a fee for paying by card. Heather stated that she would send a request to waive the $75 reconnect fee since this was a blunder on their part for sending a MAILED LETTER. After I hung up with Heather, I waited around for a few moments and dialed back to get an ETA. I connected with John at 5:43 and he said power would be connected today, but he could not give an estimate. Logged into my account today to pay my bill and the fees are still slapped on my account. $20 for returned payment + $50 reconnect fee + $25 “after hours” reconnect fee. My bill that is already a large chunk of change just nearly DOUBLED!!! I called customer service and spoke to a rep and explained my situation. I was placed on hold twice after I asked about waiving the fees since it was the first time it had happened. She said “No, I”m sorry. We sent a letter out on the 30th.” I asked why it wasn”t sent to my email. She said, “It”s our policy.” I stated that”s not a great policy to use when you push people towards paperless billing. She said, “Well you need to take that up with your provider.” My provider??? Like the United States Postal Service? She said yes. It sickens me reading all of these similar situations. Alabama Power, you should be ashamed of yourselves. There is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to nickel and dime all of your customers when they have a billing issue. If there was any other option for a power provider in my area, I would run to them in a heartbeat. Such a shame we can”t another company. You are truly Evil Corp.

After a brief rain shower I was without power after many harmful surges on and off for 7 hours. You continuously lie about power restoration times to the point that you should not even provide a guess started at 1900 then 2100 then 2315 waited 50 minutes on hold to be hung up on. Power restored at 0100 the next day. My asthma, pet and coral aquarium are permanently damaged from this. Your entire system is garbage. I know this falls on deaf dumb and blind senses but I just want to say “You do a pathetic job and I feel like I am in Puerto Rico with the quality of power I have received for the past year.”

After receiving the “ourtesy letter” from your employee, Vicki Creary (attached), I went to your website (on July 29th) to make the final payment on my Extended Warranty (Merchandise Order: # 597814/Account #: [protected], Whereupon I was informed that the account number no longer existed. After several calls Alabama Power Customer Service and Warranty Services, I learned that my Warranty had been cancelled for “Non-payment” and could not be reinstated or re-written. Unless there is some “time-sensitive” reason to do so, I pay most of my bills at the end of the month (as I am a Alabama State employee, paid once a month, on the last day of the month). Once again referencing Ms. Creary’s “letter”, there was no deadline or possibility of cancellation expressed. Due to this unwitting, unintentional customer service failure, I no longer have warranty coverage on my Maytag Refrigerator. I ask that my Extended Warranty be reinstated or, rewritten. Alabama Power changed my meter several years ago and sent a Power surge thru our house. It fried our dishwasher and they refused to pay for it. They said they hired a company out of Kentucky to change the meters out and they were responsible. Guess what??? They refused to pay for it! Alabama power has been installing Smart Meters in the area, Ours had a problem, When hooked up they could not get it to work correctly (said the tech installing it). He left and a few months went by and another tech showed up saying it was not transmitting. Well here is the problem Our bill made a drastic jump for the month they said it wasn”t transmitting. They just said it was the hottest month so I used more energy. I live in a large house but the fact is it has no A/C or Heating system. We use a window unit that was brand new and smaller than the one we used the previous year. Also we have been behind on payments now thats our fault but we made arrangments for payment and yet it never seems to go down. We have been paying $150 per week almost all year missing only a few at times when rent is due. We got our bill down and have only $111 due to be in a current bill yet the rep said we still need to pay the $150 for the week because we will have a new bill comming out . Why should that matter if it”s not a cutoff notice. We have only 200 to pay bills this week so if we paid the 150 they want it would leave us 50 to try to feed our family of 4 for the week. The rep puts payment arrangments in the system so we are obligated to pay it . Why would I need to pay into a new bill that is not a cut off notice. This company cares nothing about people they tell you to go get hand outs like project share which is always broke so they can”t help and all other programs take longer than 30 days . The point is why should I have to try to milk the system to pay a bill that I could pay next week or just pay the 111 that is due. They still say pay the 150 or they will cut my services then require a new deposit and reconnect fees . I am not saying I am perfect but we have been having a tuff year like lots of others but Alabama power is greedy asking people to use there grocery money and neglect other payments just to get theirs and will threaten and talk to you like crap .

Alabama power hired a horrible tree service to cut away limbs from their lines here. They left limbs in the road and on top of many places I must cut grass. I am female and a very small person. Although I work 6 acres of land alone and am in good shape for my age I can not do that kind of work. They destroyed a whole half acre of my land. I called Alabama Power to submit a work order for one of their own employees to come and see what a horrible job the crew they hired did. The man was a huge hateful vile person. He told me it was my responsiblity to pick up limbs that out weigh me by 100 lbs and more. I was very kind to him until he turned on me and told me to just “Deal with it”. My mom works for them too and checked the rules. She said they ARE supposed to clean up. So the man was a dirty liar just like I thought. He lied and told me it was not their problem and they did not have to clean it up. Then had the nerve to tell me I should have maintained the area myself when it is THIER job to maintain their right-a-way. ANother lie. But they have not been out to maintain it in over 11 years. I work in Mountian Brook and noticed that they were cleaning up every single small stick from the rich peoples yards. I guess if you live in the country and are not rich you don”t matter to Alabama Power. My mom works for them and checked the rules. She said they ARE supposed to clean up. So the man was a dirty liar just like I thought. I then spoke with a laywer friend who has submitted a bill for the clean up to the tree service. He too agrees that it is against the law for them to destroy someones property. At least my bill is not high. But that may be the real reason they don”t care about destroying the country folks yards. We don”t have the money to pay high bills so we conserve while the rich and spoiled do not. Next time I will take off work and be here watching every move they make. And I will be fussing and complaining the whole time. They can”t do a thing about it either because it is my property I will be standing on. I have never seen a more lazy group of worker in my life. Alabama power is one of the few companies I know of that do not care about actual customer service. Their intent is never to take care of the customer, regardless of what the situation is. You can be going through every crisis in the world, and ask to speak to as many supervisors as you want, requesting something as simple as a 2 day extension outside of what the automated system is allowing, and they will turn you away, putting you in an even worse situation than the original issue. Now, not only do you have a balance with them (which is now an outstanding balance), but you”re also responsible for a reconnect fee, and you and your family have no power. Now if you took the time to call and notify them of the issue, should that not be taken into consideration? Should it not be taken into consideration that if you did not have the original balance due, that it may be almost impossible for you to provide the original amount along with the $150 reconnect fee that is now also required for you to get your family out of the dark? I understand that some situations are not justifiable for varying reasons, but something as simple as the request of 2 extra days to give them all of the money owed, being denied is beyond me. They simply tell you no, with no remorse or concern for the customer at all. There has never been a time where i”ve contacted alabama power and felt I was assisted as best as possible. Is customer care not important to the company at all?

Alabama Power makes budget billing seem great but when you enquire about it the representatives are quick to set you up on budget billing but they fail to tell you that it will cost you triple what your actual bill is to get off of budget billing. Ii have tried unplugging anything I dont use, keeping all lights off during the day ect and then moved to a home with less things using power and instead of my budget bill amount going down it skyrocketed from $125 to now $214. I was fedup with the service so I called to request getting off of it but was informed it would cost nearly $1000 to get off the service then was assured my budget bill would go down in January however again it went up instead of down. I reveiwed what my bill would be without budget bill and just about every actual bill was way lower than the budget bill amount I was being charged. This budget billing service appears to be a scam and im not the only person that feels that way.

Alabama power put up a new power pole on my property 3 weeks ago and without my knowledge left a lot of cable in my yard, which I ran over with my new riding lawnmower and tore up the spindles and blades. the cable is probably 300 feet in length and should had been removed before they left the property. At 4:22pm on 6 Aug 2019 we had the power drop and then come back on again at out our house. This has become a weekly event. An hour later our refrigerator started dripping water and we noticed it was no longer operating. This is the second time in the past year we have had this specific incident happen after a power surge. Last time it was a $500 repair cost for a fried electronic panel due to the surge. I called Alabama Power last week to complain about the constant power drops that are occurring almost weekly. I”m very disappointed in the reliability of the power grid in Birmingham. Bought a computer from these liars. Was told 2 terms before signing and took it. 2 days later ran into a problem(display). I was told by Jim W. i cant return it. He is a liar, a 14 day return policy is there. Now months later still fighting nothing getting done, they cant even hold to there own terms. Due to wave after wave of hospital Bill’s stemming from my fathers stroke, I was late paying the service bill for my garage, my place of business, resulting in interruption of service. I was able to pay my bill via phone, and after waiting 2 days for service to be restored, I called to ask when it could be reconnected. I was told a service person was unable to locate the building. This is absolutely impossible. I was there, at my place of business at 6:30 am, and did not leave . I was awaiting a customer to approve a repair… The spokesperson I had on the phone stated that the driver was “in the area” at 10:15, the time of the conversion was 10:25 . She told me the driver was at a residence beside my garage . I was standing outside, looking directly where he said he was . There was absolutely nobody there . I was then told they were only working a half day, and monday would be a holiday, so I now have to wait until Tuesday before service is restored . I do not understand why I was told such an elaborate lie . My shop is directly beside the street the driver would have been on had the driver actually been there . I can not wait until Tuesday to be reconnected.

Each month I pay my pass due bill when my new bill comes out due to my pay period. Never have I had a problem. Nothing has change about my bill and when its due. So this is how I pay each month. Now I get a disconnect which requires an additional 50 dollars and all the rep and the manager told me was, I should have set up a payment arrangement. No concern, no assistance to help, No empathy and not looking at my payment history to see that this is how I been paying. You all need better customer service skills. Changing up the way you do billing is wrong. Being consistent is the key. If there is no grace period then say so. Don”t assume I should have set up a payment arrangement or say I am lucky. Its rude. I am still paying for a refrigerator that I got from Alabama Power Appliance in Selma Alabama.The refrigerator is only 2 years old.The problem started with it freezeing up in the freezer unit, water not draining down and not getting cool in the refrigerator part.A tect was called out on 3/11/ 09.I did not have a warranty but I took one out with the tect Jeff Lindsey on 3/11/09. It went into effect on 4/11/09.Since then a tect has came out two other times for the same problem.I was told that I had a balance of $115.44 that was not paid toward the repair on 5/11/09.I paid the $115.44 on Tuesday and the costumer service person told me that some one would not come out until Thrusday 5/14/09. The problem is why should the tech keep coming out when the problem is still not repaired.Since the refrigerator has not been working I have lost over $100.00 in food.If they won’t fix it why can’t I have a nother fridge.I pray that the problem is solved and I be reimbursed for my lost of food.

I am wondering why our power bill fluctuates so drastically every few months. It will be fairly consistant for several months and then dramatically increase or decrease for a month. For example; our monthly bill ranges from 125-175 a month depending upon the season. Then we get a bill for 400. The bill then goes back to “normal” then we get a bill for 20 dollars…yes i said 20 dollars. We r not on any budget billing system and i CANNOT get a straight answer from the power company. I asked to cancel my service from the apartment several weeks before leaving through customer service. When I moved to another city, they mailed me a statement for the time the apartment was vacant (after my lease expired) AND when a new tenant moved in (they didn”t bother to change the name on the account). I had to leave before my lease expired and didn”t mind paying for that time since the apartment was still in my name, but they would not accept any kind of verification that I had left the apartment, would not waive any charges, and were very rude in the process. 3 months later, I am stuck with charges for the time that I moved out and an extra month with usage. The people at customer service I talked to trying to fix this were extremely rude and I could not get anywhere. Now I just had to pay over $250 extra dollars so they wouldn”t send my account to collections and ruin my credit. Just because they have a monopoly, I guess they can do whatever they want. I contacted Alabama Power and tried to make a payment arrangement. My bill was two months behind. I had made one months payment but I still had a disconnect notice for Oct. 4. I tried to make a payment arrangement online and it only extended it to Oct. 12. When I spoke to Alabama Power, they would not budge or help me in any way. No empathy, no mercy. I explained that I was struggling financially right now and could they please extend it to Oct. 26. I was told the system would not allow them to extend it any further than 8 days even after asking to speak to a manager. I was told by the manager, Craig, to borrow the money from a family member or friend and pay them back on Oct. 26th. Why don”t we have another power company? I will file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. It may not do any good but Alabama Power needs to be investigated.

I dont see how they can charge 200 or close to the same amount for the non hot/ nor cold season. Summer gets here I realize air conditioners bring it up. But then to receive a 750 bill for one month its unreal. Not only does that seem impossible but that wont investigate or work w you. So in less then 3 weeks of each other I paid 350 and 350 and because of this how is one suppose to pay other bills when its taken a while pay check to keep one month of lights. I have an 87 year old parent who is a fall risk and who has other health issues where she must have power. I’m on disability and recently had a major surgery that couldn’t be put off. My co-pay was out of this world. I called to make a payment arrangement with them. (Not for anything free mind ya) They refused to extend me two days and I would pay the full amount. I have applied for new services but was told I would have to pay a 447.00 deposit. I found out yesterday that I had a previous balance of 15.00 from my previous address 5302 23rd blvd Valley Alabama. I was sent to collections unaware of this owed balance. I think this is a ridiculously high amount of a deposit for me to pay. Why didn”t anyone contact me from Alabama Power about this 15.00, before sending it to collections. I also found out that I had been sent to collection at a prior address for a 200.00 balance but she informed me that I had paid the 200.00. I am going to pay this 15.00 this week when I receive some income. I just don”t believe I should have to pay a deposit that is so high.

I have called prior with cost of electric bills in winter. My costs should drop significantly with no central heat or ac used due to use exclusively of natural gas heat. My costs still remain higher than they should including my storage building which has recently doubled in price even with nothing to be using more electricity. Prior calls resulted in them telling me my water heater may have a leak causing it to run more which was not the case. I am finding when the temps drop and others power bills increase they increase mine also. Mine should be lower than ever during the winter months. I need to know what I need to do to seek action.

I just investigated an issue with my budget billing to see why it is so high (to my home usage). Over the past 17 bills, I have usage in the amount of $2398.86. Over those same 17 months I was charged the amount of $2719.00 This is $320.14 more than I actually used in my home over those 17 months. My budget billing ranges were $145, $162 and $169 over those 17 months. One could reasonably expect my bills would be and average of $141.11 per month, but instead were mostly $169. Actually 9 of those bills were $169. From 3/27/2015 – 9/28/2015 my budget bill was $169, yet my actual bills ranged from $90.34 – $152.86. I just now see that my new bill is going to drop to $152!?!?!? Yet my usage just went down to $90+ What a joke and I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit against them!

I just moved in to an apartment my first bill is over 200 dollars I am in a 1 bedroom alone. I am told my heat made the bill this high. I dont undertand how one thing can account for most of my bill. my father died yesterday I have no other funds an will not be able to pay my bill in full. I was told all that can is an extention for 19 days which wont help being that I am living on diisiblity I recive monthly checks. I dont understand how a a company can be so cold. I am trying to atleast pay towrds what I owe and continue to pay. this is a serious problem and I cant understand how this company has no understanding things always happen in life that we can not control thats life you know that but obviously dont care which is a serious problem because you guys know we have no choice in what company supplies us with energy. something needs to be done because your customers should mean more to you. So thanks to you guys I will be in the dark with no heat. Great to know that I risked my life for country and this is what is allowed to go on it makes you want to just give up. I pray that something will be done because your company is very cold and unfair. I would file several complaints but it will just be more wasted time off of my life for nothing.

I just purchased a new home and called Alabama Power last week to have the power turned on for the home inspection. The guy did not understand what I wanted so I asked to speak to someone who spoke english and could understand me. His supervisor got on the phone and was horribly rude to me. She also did not understand that I needed the power turned on for 3 days for the inspection to be done because until closing that is all that I am allowed to have power to the house for(bought the home through HUD). She even went as far as to be completely quiet in an attempt to make me think she had hung up on me and me hang up. But I used to work in telemarketing and I know that you absolutely cannot hang up on a customer. She made me want to not do business with them. Well we finally got everything worked out after I sternly told her to shut up and listen to what I needed and we worked it out for the power to be on for this wednesday, thursday, and friday because the inspection is thursday. So today I called to verify that power had been turned on, thinking I would speak to someone else and it would be a decent experience. Boy was I wrong. She started off rude and told me that they are closed on friday and the power would not be turned off on friday and the power was turned on on tuesday which is also not what was agreed to. They just do whatever they want to do and don”t care how it affects the customers. So now the power is going to be left on until next tuesday because they are closed until monday and they can”t wait until thursday afternoon to turn off the power because work orders have no time limit on them. These people are a nightmare to deal with and I wish I never had to deal with them again!

I left for legal reasons to new york & got into a car accident while there, I returned may 13, 2019 to find my lights were off after my last bill was due for april 25, 2019, I called & a represenative who I found to be quite brash & unempathetic to my situation (car accident) told me my account was closed & I would have to secure another deposit of $400 plus my past balance of $276.31, but she stated if I could find someone with good standing (meaning never had their services interrupted) they could waive the new account fee. First off how do you take it upon yourself to close someone”s account out with no merit to do so, no one died in the residence, no one abandoned the residence no one called to say the house was not occupied so you make up a stupid ass policies to rob people of money & then justify it by saying well you shoulda had someone call to tell us you were in a car accident maybe we coulda accommodated you. I”m appalled that they can legally do this. This company has enough complaints for the government to step in for unethical practices against consumers and shut them down! I have been treated in a bias way & feel enough complaints have been done for years for someone to step in & see how abusive this electric company is & has been. Where is my initial deposit I have the same account saying I have to pay a second deposit now to keep my lights on after paying the $276.31 past amount for april 25, 2019 it”s now may 23, 2019 not even a month of service yet i”m told I need to pay a additional security deposit by may 31st. To keep my lights on.. I will be following up with a lawyer i”m tired of seeing people abuse good citizens just because their is no competition for alabama power to compete with.. It”s sad.. You have no integrity as a company & have millions of complaints from your customers when do you say we should revamp the company to fit the needs of our customers & get great reviews not one good review is seen anywhere concerning the money hungry greedy un american company.. Appalled to say the least!

I live at 902 Burnt Pine Drive Maylene Alabama 35114. my power went off at approximately 7 p.m. And there were no updates until 11: 30 p.m. When finally the phone number updated me saying service workers were in route to attempt to fix the problem. This is after all my food has been spoiled And I do not understand why no one was on their way sooner to attempt to fix the problem. There is no other neighborhood without power and lately everytime it rains our power has been going out. Why would workers not respond quicker than basically the middle of the night? I cannot have all my food spoil every single time we have bad weather because the power company is unreliable. I also have 2 small babies at home with no air during the hot summer.. this is unacceptable.

I live in Alabama and my power bill has doubled since this time last year. I have not been running my heating and cooling system either. I called Alabama power and of course I got a range of excuses. My kwh has increased but I am doing nothing different. I have new appliances and there is only 2 people living in the house. I didn”t notice my bill increasing so much till a house was built next to mine. I know that Alabama power has increased there rates but the increase is well above what the increase is suppose to be. I am disabled and live on a fixed income. My power bill is not far from reaching what my house payment is and I don”t have the money. I have no choice but to turn everything off. I run one space heater now and have turned all the lights off. I was just running 3 space heaters before now. I can understanding it increasing with there price increase but doubling is not right.

I live in the neighborhood that backs up to this transmission substation and I have a small child. In the past week I have seen several snakes. The tall grass at this North Helena substation needs to be cut. I am afraid to let me child go outside to play. Please have someone address this issue as soon as possible. I have called every customer service number I can find and no one seems to care about helping me.

I purchased a whirlpool refrigerator through Alabama Power not too long ago. About a month ago it began to “knock” loudly and all the food began to freeze solid in the fridge. A tech finally came after a week and a half of this and said it would be another two weeks for the correct part to come in. I have been unable to use it since and the food I did have is spoiled. A rep from Al power called and gave me a number to whirlpool. the number was incorrect.

I spoke to customer service today after I discovered my power was off, I was told that I had a returned payment that came back on 11/5 and it’s not their duty to notify customers of returned payments. I spoke to several different “managers” as they advised me the account number provided for the payment was one number off (an honest mistake). I asked why wasn’t it in the policy to automatically notify customers when there is an issue to allow them to correct it. I was told that they send out letters and if we don’t get it we need to check with the post office. Ma’am how am I to check for a letter I had no idea you were sending??? I’ve been so busy with a recent death in the family, health issues, starting a new job it would be nice if my utility company notified me of an issue!!! I was told I need to check my checking account more, I was asked “didn’t you say you worked for a bank?”, I was told if wasn’t their fault if I didn’t keep up with my bill pay. No accountability on the company to make sure the customers are aware of what’s going on! If there was another company, I wouldn’t care if they were 10% higher, I would choose them!!! I hate alabama power!!! They have a monopoly so they treat their customers like [censored]!!!
