We visited Allstate Appliance to purchase new appliances for a remodel to our home. We were met by Ray Lockrem, who identified himself as a manager, which we later learned was not true. Mr. Lockrem showed us appliances that were on their showroom floor, stating that the actual appliances we would be purchasing were in their warehouse. Mr. Lockrem was very pushy and attempted many times to encourage us to purchase more expensive items than we had originally seen in his ads. When we did finally settle on the appliances, Mr. Lockrem also tried to charge us more than were the advertised prices. Only after showing proof of his ads did he correct the price. This is a bait and switch operation. One item in question Mr. Lockrem persuaded us to buy, although it was not the style that we had originally planned on purchasing. Mr. Lockrem stated that if something didn’t work, we could always return and/or exchange it. We purchased the appliances and a delivery date was scheduled for the following week. The scheduled day came and went. After not hearing anything, we contacted Mr. Lockrem who advised us that not all of the appliances had come in so the delivery was scheduled for another week out. When the delivery day finally came, we were appalled at the condition of the appliances that were delivered. They were not boxed, were wrapped in plastic and appeared to be used. One of the items was not present at all and another had to be returned as it was damaged and had a food stain on it. The items looked like they came from “Sanford and Son” second hand store. Approximately one week after receiving delivery of the appliances, we learned that the one item that Mr. Lockrem had persuaded us to buy would not work in our application. We contacted Mr. Lockrem to request to exchange the item. He was rude and condescending and stated, “What makes you think you can return anything?”. After not getting anywhere with Mr. Lockrem, we sent a letter to the Owner/President of the company. He too was demeaning and even went so far as to tell us that the items we purchased were from a “scratch and dent” sale, which was absolutely not true. The President finally agreed to allow us to return one of the appliances that was damaged (there was a packing slip in the appliance were it had been rejected by a previous customer); however, refused to exchange the appliance that would not work for us. It took over six weeks for us to receive all of our appliances. When the final appliance did come in, the electronic display was hanging off inside the unit. Allstate Appliances would not return our calls and the manufacturer had to send someone out to repair the unit. (The manufacturer date inside this particular appliance is over one year old and we had a hard time with the manufacturer proving we had just purchased it as even they thought we had bought used appliances) Further review and research online has shown that many people have experienced similar tactics with Allstate Appliances. They claim to sell high-end appliances; however, what you are getting is not even close to what you expect. We are left with appliances that are junk and will probably end up being donated to charity. We have lost thousands of dollars. Their sales staff and even management do not answer phone calls, respond to emails and when they do they are rude and condescending. Once they get your money, it is all over for you. It appears that Allstate rips off especially retired people. Stay away from Allstate Appliance – your dream kitchen will turn into a nightmare! We Got Ripped Off!! If you are a victim of Allstate Appliances, Ron Goodwin, Ray Lockrem, you can contact rip off report and ask about the potential class action suit that is anticipated to be filed. You can also file your own complaint with The Attorney Generalu2019s office. The other pending complaints allege fraud, misleading advertising, DTPA violations, consumer fraud and misrepresentation.
