Baker's Acres

My sister and I got hired to work at Baker’s Acres in Angola Indiana. We were sent home early, called at the last minute and told not to come in many days, and only paid for a third of the hours we actually did work. In posting about this on Facebook, I found that this is common practice for them and why they have to hire a new staff each spring. The final straw was when we were sent to the “farm” to work, thinking we would be watering plants and cleaning the greenhouses, and when we got there the owner Chris Baker told us we were going to be on the landscape crew. He told us that if we couldn’t life 50lb bags of mulch we were “worrthless.” We were hired to work at the actual greenhouse/store location, not that. After being called worthless we figured we were fired. Our last paychecks were a third of what we worked, and we have never been properly compensated for the work we did. If in the future you need plants for your yard, flowers for a wedding or funeral, or landscaping DO NOT PATRONIZE these people. They treat their workers like trash. Don’t fund a business that does that!! .
