Barrell 33 Norbert Furnee Ventura Ojai Santa Barbara Barrell 33 is the new name of Norbert Furnee’s local scam. He seems to have two locations now which include one in Ventura on Thompson and one in Ojai. He used to call his fraud company Deco on Main Street in Ventura which he closed down but has been taking advantage and abusing our young adults and others for over a decade and continues at Barrell 33. He goes by a variety of names and changes the name of his scams every few years. The Barrell 33 Scam In Ventura and Ojai The scam is easy to understand. First he gets new people in the area who do not know he is a fraud to invest in a rented restaurant that he frequents. He offers them incentives on dining and a return. Then, instead of finding the most professional servers and bartenders for the job, he hires mostly yong easily manipulated males who will work hard long hours regardless if they are paid in the industry standard. Then he tells his staff that they will receive their full tips at the end of the month from the credit cards which are the main way tourists pay for the over-priced meals. When the end of the month comes, instead of paying his staff the actual amount that guests were trying to tip, he pays them a small fraction of it which ends up to be around 3% of the money they actually earned through their service. Once the server understands this they quit but have little recourse to get their money back since they are young, new in town as well, and do not know how to use the services available to them. I observed this fraud first hand since I have been a server for many reputable establishments my whole life and was underpaid by thousands by Norbert’s scam. I know how much my guests tip, I know how much I make a day in tips, my cash tips were given to me directly in the correct amounts, but when it came to the end of the month, the credit card tips were around $30 instead of the $2000+ that I would normally expect. Barrell 33 Extracts Our Money In Ventura and Ojai This is not the only way that Norbert and Barrell 33 scam our community. He teaches his staff not to be professional servers, but to “extract” as much money as possible from the people that come in and deliver as little product as possible. These are his exact words to me through my own observation. He does not entertain his guests with music, arts, or in other ways that many of the other local restaurants do. His servings are so small you should expect to spend your “whole paycheck” and receive less than ½ of a meal. When you go into his scam, you will see that almost no one is there because the people in our local community know that if they eat there frequently, they will starve or become so broke they will not be able to afford to eat anything else. Worst Food And Service At Barrell 33 – Ventura and Ojai He used to brag about how his service and food was the best in the county but now he serves some of the worst pizza I have ever seen in the world. If you support this person or any of his locations, know that you are doing the wrong thing and harming the rest of us. We don’t like that so please be sure never to do business with this fraud. Our community wants Barrell 33 and Norbert Furnee out! The fraud owner will work you 60+ hours a week when you get a job with him but once you figure out how he is scamming you, he will “forget” to put you on the schedule which will lead to financial trauma in many cases. Think for yourself and do the right thing before you apply with this business, continue to work for them, or visit them for an overpriced unhealthy meal. There are many helpful supportive places to eat in our local community. Be sure you are spending your money with people that do the right thing. If you are intersted in the class action against this owner please leave a comment with your experience as well.
