I was contacted by a headhunter who mentioned my full name was being used as a baby shower invite that looked kind of… strange (she was being polite). Upon viewing the site (www.kennedygrey.com) i realized someone was either pranking/punking me, or perpetuating some scam online. The latter ended up being true; the person, who claims to have had a child they named (you guessed it.. MY FULL NAME!), had perpetuated a sad and twisted fundraising front to support her supposed medical efforts to save her newborn infant from (doesn’t say…but does list the GoFundMe page of course). In this person’s fake grief, they managed to build a shoddy but ambitious multi-stage front on Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin among others, with fake photos of what appears to be a doll or a fake baby; an amateurish “farewell to our child” flyer, and dozens of fake but very church-oriented testimonials from friends who “donated” and how proud they were, rah rah, support, love God… What tipped me off was that after I shamefully told this person prior to realizing I was being scammed of course, that I was SO sorry, she posted my initial email and “i’m so sorry” email which “she” stated was so abjectly offensive to her. I don’t know why that would be true but it tipped the scales in me thinking that the natural response would have been mercy to someone clueless of her supposedly tragic situation. Further follow-up after being duped found nobody on the site pages at Instagram were were; no death or birth certificates existed; the church listed on the donate page has a redirect to “her” email (so she’s the church as well… fabulous). I have reached out to GoFundMe who are pursuing legal actions, as well as state and federal prosecutors to shut whoever this is down.
