When you move to Cabarrus County, NC, be prepared. YOU MUST GET A NEW AUTO INSPECTION IMMEDIATLY; NO OTHER COUNTIES ARE VALID. They won’t tell you this, or mail you a notice and when the fine has been applied to your car. You still won’t be notified until you try to renew your registration. They’ll take your registration money, but you will never receive a sticker for your car. The only true way to find out what is going on is to get a ticket. Total cost to me so far? $228 (fine)+ $195 (court and ticket) + $85 (loss of workday)= $508.00 is what it costs just to MOVE to Cabarrus County. Technically I cannot legally drive my car right now. So the chances of me getting another ticket on the way to take care of this stuff is HIGH!! So, tell everyone you know to get their car inspected when they move to Cabarrus County, because no one else will. I think I would rather pay higher taxes that be tricked out of money this way.
