On a cold stormy winter night of Monday, January 26, 2015; I was standing outside waiting to speak to an employee at this Demetre Caffe location in Richmond Hill. When I was standing outside, I was rudely approached (out of nowhere) by another employee who works over there. He was a short, White male by the name of “Matt” who had blondish-brownish hair and was about 5 feet and 8 inches tall. This guy didn’t greet me properly and just said to me “What do you want, Mate?” As it was cold outside and me being startled by his rude greeting, I started to stammer. Matt then went on and said the following: “I can’t understand you, mate! Learn to speak proper English in this country mate, You are using a lot of pronouns mate. God! Why can’t you people just learn our language.” Apparently, me being of Filipino descent and being naturally born in this country, cannot satisfy Matt’s own usage of the Canadian English language as I think we don’t really use “Mate” over here alot. Anyways, as I was confused that night and finally spoke to the other employee over there, I then decided to come back 2 days later to speak to the General Manager over there by the name of “Toby”. He is of of possible East Asian descent, wearing glasses and is skinny. Toby then told me that he would “investigate” and apologized to me kindly. However, a couple of weeks later, on Friday, February 13, 2015, I then came back to see Toby and ask him what his results were. He told me that he was “still investigating”, however as soon as I left, I saw Matt come back out of the kitchen and was pointing at me and laughing at me along with Toby. As furious as I was, I went back inside and confronted the both of them and screamed at Matt saying that he was a racist and he was not tolerated over here. Matt then looked at me, smirked and then said “I’m sorry, what did you say?”. But Toby then ordered Matt not to talk. I can see why Caffe Demetre’s staff lacks tolerance and customer service, no wonder why they are closing down. “Matt” should be investigated and possibly be fired for his racist antics and oh yeah, did I forget to mention, after this final confrontation, I still see Matt in his miserable stance wearing glasses this time. Maybe he needs to get another set of glasses cause he can’t see that we are a multicultural society here! .
