On 10/23/13, 2 men selling meats, chicken, seafood from a company called Capital Meats came to my door with a sales pitch. I let them in to hear their deals, against my better judgement. After explianing their product to me, they gave me the price (with tax) was $826.17 for an almost year-long supply of meat. I explained that I didn’t have $826.17 that day, nor would I have that kind of extra money on any day. The salesman, Ty Hopkins, told me not to worry – that he would take payments from me because he “”had to get this meat off his truck””. Their sales tactics were very aggressive and he would not take no for an answer. Every reason I had to not be able to buy the meat, he had a rebuttal that sounded like I was getting the best possible deal and we’d figure it out. We agreed that I’d make a few payments, beginning in November until I was paid in full. He told that in order to show his manager that he’d made a sale – that I should write him a check for the full amount and that he would give me a receipt stating that he’d save it for 30 days. But before the end of the 30 days, he’d come back to my house and rip up that check and I could make my 1st payment. I asked him countless times to assure me that he’d never cash that check – because I don’t have that kind of extra money as a single mother of 2. He promised he wouldn’t cash it. On Friday, November 29th – my check was cashed in its entirety. Leaving me minus $826.17 and the inability to pay my rent for December. I made countless phone calls to various numbers I had for the company – I spoke with Dawn Funkhouser in Customer Service, who was very helpful and also Lisa Stallings in the Capital Heights office. Both of which told me that they would do what they could to get it resolved and I would likely get refunded. Today, I spoke with Ty Hopkins who told me that he recalls no such conversation and also with his boss (the corporate manager) named Joe. Ty and Joe both told me that I signed the receipt and agreed for the check to be held for 30 days and it’s not their problem – that we are now in a “”he said, she said”” situation. I would’ve never written someone a check for such a large amount without the agreement that it would not be cashed and I could make payments, as we had arranged. I am a single mother and it is 3 weeks before Christmas. I now don’t have the funds to pay my monthly rent and this situation leaves me in a very bad position.
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
A capital meat truck came to my business this week, after 45 minutes of telling the salesman I was not interested… Simply did not need any meat… I bought a box of fillets… Just to get rid of him! Last night we had the steak… Worst steak ever… Tough… No taste… Just awful! I hope he comes back just one more time… I won’t even feed this to my dog!
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
A Capital Meats, Inc. van arrived at my home at dinner time with such “A great offer” and a sob story about “his last 3 boxes, he just wanted to get home.” I’m handicapped, I had my 5 yr old granddaughter and I fell for the scam. The rep said his name was Ronnie. He wrote his number on my receipt and assured me (and my husband via a video call) that IF we had any problem or were dissatisfied he would replace, refund, and schedule a time to pick up the steaks if for some reason we were not happy. But he knew that wouldn’t happen because the number he gave me the people answering it say there’s never been a Ronnie at the number. Calling the 866 “Customer Number” is useless. No matter the time of day, the call goes to voice mail and they WILL NOT return the call. Buyer Beware. This is a total rip off. The steaks are so tough, grisselly and have a peculiar odor. It’s not fit for human consumption. IF you are approached or see these people in your neighborhood do not buy anything.
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
A saleseman repersenting Capital Meats, Inc came to my home during the day and aggressivly peddled a large case of steak, indicating that the 20 lbs of various cuts of beef normally sold for nearly 400 dollars. Inspite of the fact that my wife asked him to come back later he continued to pitch her the product and my wife relented and purchased the 20 lbs of beef for $140 just to see him away from our rural home .The salesman left no information about the companies product warranty, we had to find this online. I looked up the company on the internet and called their main office, their Baltimore office, and the salesman himself asking to return the product. They all declined to respond to my request . I wrote and mailed a certified requect to the companies mailing address the very next day after the sale requesting that the product be returned. The company has failed to respond. In checking with our county seat, Capital Meats, Inc is not liscenced to sell its products door to door in Frederick County, Maryland. Their meats are over priced for the cut that they are selling, and there is no origin enclosed in the packing information. Given their unresponsiveness I suggest closing your door hard and calling the police if you see anybody with a pick-up and a cooler selling these products in your comunitty.
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
A salesman from Capital Meats has come to my door at least half of a dozen times since I have lived in this house (almost 3 years). The first time, they caught me coming in from my car and stopped me. The men were in very baggy pants (enough that I could see their underwear) and they had gotten out of an old pick up truck with a freezer strapped to the back. I saw their car magnet that said Capital Meats and I stopped them and told them that we were vegetarians and not interested in meat. That should have been enough to get them to leave, but they followed me to my door anyway and proceeded to hard sell me this meat. There is no way I would even buy meat from that shady looking pick-up truck- even if I did eat meat. The men proceeded to lay meat all over my porch (ew!!) and then he even tried to come in my house (even put his hand on the door and tried to open it) so he could see what kind of freezer I had. I eventually shut the door and locked it. Since that time, they have come back several times. I no longer answer the door (although once my husband did and he says they were rude to him when he declined their product). When I don”t answer the door, they stand out there knocking and ringing for a very long time! It is borderline harassment!!! They don”t have any business knocking on my door anyway, because I have a large NO SOLICITING sign. I wouldn”t mind if they rang once (even though I already told them we will never want their product) and left, but they RING and RING and RING! I have a sleeping baby, barking dogs, it is such a disruption!!! I called their Baltimore office (where these salesman are from) to make a formal complaint. The lady who answered said she was the office manager. She wanted my address but I was hesitant to give it to her because I feared backlash from the shady looking “salesman.” I asked her to at least enforce a ring-once policy but she said she couldn”t do that due to hard of hearing elderly people (who they should leave alone anyway!!!). So I asked about a policy of not ringing the bell of people who had a No Soliciting sign and she said she could not enforce that either because those signs are mostly for religious people. What??? My sign is to deter annoying, relentless salesman! I told her if they stood outside of my door ringing and ringing again, that I would call the cops. She proceeded to just talk over me, telling me she wouldn”t let me speak bad about a great company (Everyone on my street hates to see that nasty truck pull up!!) that she has worked for for 6 years and she told me I must have a miserable life and hung up on me. So much for making a formal complaint. I wasn”t even rude to her, as I know *she* was not the one knocking on my door, but she must have been very upset that I did not want them to come to my door and that I wouldn”t give her my address. If this is such a great company, then the least they could do is update their POS trucks with coolers strapped to the back to nicer looking freezer vans/trucks that look like they actually keep the meat cold! And they could enforce some sort of dress code to the salesman so they look less like bums and more like professionals. And lastly, don”t be so rude and pushy and don”t harass people! Many of my neighbors have told me that the salesman are rude if you say no. The neighbors who did buy their meat, regretted it as they were flavorless, tough, cheap cuts of meat. Don”t buy from this company!!
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
A salesman from Capital Meats showed up at our door, and we made the mistake of buying from them. We discovered after they left that we had paid over $9 a pound for the meat which was far too much. We also have not been happy with the quality. The burgers that were supposed to be lean were extremely fatty. I had to drain the grease from them while making them. The steak ended up being half the size when we grilled them. This was so totally contrary to what the salesman claimed. I will never buy from them again.
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
Capital meats delivered to my house for years, and the meat was good, , now occasionally i had some bad meat, but i never blamed someone else because i couldnt cook it right. Half of u probley dont even know that you cook a steak frozen right outta the freezer. And another thing is it doesnt matter what meat you buy, in store, buthcher, grow your own, if you dont cook it on low heat and let your busy life’s take control of your cooking temps then you’ll always have a “tuff” steak. If you eat at a resturant and you dont like it, do you honestly waste your time complaining about it, or do you go to a different resturant. . . My point. . The guys that go door to door are just hard working men trying to make a living, if you buy from a capital van, you will be happy,. . All these complaints are from people who work for other meat companys and are try’n to put the best down,. . If this company had such bad food as you all say, , then how have they been in business since 1997 is this really the way to spend your time, just come to capital and we will cook you a steak and make your own determanation. . Or e – mail me @ [protected]@yahoo.com dont believe these people they work for company’s that try’n to put us down. I wont buy nothing from no one except the best capital meats take care readers and godbless
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
Capital meats, where do i start? We made the mistake of buying last year, horrible quality, i mean horrible. Today, i see a man, did”nt get his name, an endomorphic bald man working for capital meats, knocking door to door, trying to get my neighbors to buy. My neighbor, who takes care of his sick parents letting them live with him declines to buy meat. The endomorphic man, starts screaming at my neighbor insisting on talking to his sick parents to try and con them as well. Once again my neighbor declines respectfully, this guys is having a fit over this. I am sitting on my step three houses away, i am watching the whole thing! Then he starts cursing at my neighbor, [censored] this [censored] that well that was it for me i said sir, stop harassing my neighbor. Then he begins to scream at me with rage (Personally i think this man was on cocaine) . My husband comes out and hears everything he was saying as soon as he seen my very tall husband ran to his truck and sped off. I tell you, you would have to be a fool to actually buy there meat. There are so many more places in baltimore to buy quality meat at a much better price.

Do not buy from Capital Meats. I was always leery about this company but lesson learned. They pulled up and rang my doorbell and went through the sell presentation very quickly. The price started pretty high and I was able to negotiate for a pretty good price. I really had no intention of buying that day because I didn”t get paid until that friday. He told me that I could write a post dated check and that they wouldn”t submit it until friday. Stupid me!! They deposited that check the next day and cause my account to go into a negative balance and 4 returned checks. I called the guys who sold me the meat and they said that they would take care of it. NOT!! Capital Meats resubmitted the check the next month without notifying me and putting my checking account in the negative again and charged me $50 for a returned check fee. I called the company and their only response was what do you want from us? She told me that post dated checks are illegal anyway. Hell, I know that, so why do you tell customers to write them. I have paid for this meat 3x with the overdraft fees. I am going to write the BBB about these people and forward a copy to our HOA to see if we can keep these scammers out of our neighborhood. If you live in Fredericksburg, VA and live in the Salem Fields community, please beware.
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
First of all, 2 guys showed up at my house on 6/4/19 in NC, one of them knocking on the front door, after driving right past a No Trespassing sign. I went out the back door to see who it was and what they wanted. As I go around the corner to the driveway which is right at the end of my house, one guy is standing in front of my son’s car pissing in our driveway, and the other guy is in the van. When the guy in the van sees me coming, he toots the horn apparently to warn the guy pissing in my driveway, then gets out really quick and comes toward me. He tells me he is from Capital Meats, and asked if I want to buy some steaks, chicken, or pork. I told him no I was not interested, and he said not even if I give you something for free. I told him no. He then stated they were on their way back to Bristol, and thought they would stop to see if we wanted to buy something. He then asked if I knew anyone else down the road. I told him no, and they left after the other guy got done pissing in my driveway and got his pants zipped back up. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! As a company, you should try to have more decent employees! They better never show up at my house again.
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
For the third time that I know of, a man in a truck came down my family”s “no outlet” cul de sac neighborhood of only 13 houses and attempted to enter an open garage door. The first time this happened, my 7 yr old grandson was completely traumatized; to this day he insists on dounble checking that the doors and windows are locked whenever one of the family goes in or out of the house or garage; he also asks that we accompany him on his own front lawn/driveway to play. His fear is naturally tramsmitted to his 3 yr old brother and shared by his 10 year old sister. That 10 yr old girl, while riding her bike in the driveway today, ran into the house screaming that “some man is in the driveway”! Luckily my husband, their grandfather was here and told the guy in no uncertain terms to stay away from this house, this street and this neighborhood. My daughter in law dealt with these people before, to no avail apparently. This time they had a pr0fessionally painted panel truck, but it was the same pushy, unwanted sales pitch. We know at least two other neighbors who have had the same prioblem with this company. Keep them away from your neighborhood and your children.

Here is the exact letter I submitted to the company; you be the judge. I”ve been cooking for about 10 years now. I cook for family, friends, personnel in my military unit, etc. Initially when Charles (The sales guy) displayed the meat it looked pretty good. The steak, although frozen, was a nice red and looked pretty good. When the chicken display was pulled out, he opened the first pack and I stopped him. The chicken was pathetic and tiny. I told him not to bother with chicken. I also told him to forget the seafood because I don”t trust frozen seafood, especially because I don”t know what kind of care it”s been given. He gave me the whole freshness phrase but I told him not to waste his time; what I was interested in was the beef. Longer story short he passed that he”ll give me any case I wanted for $25. Delmonico steaks – when done right – are exquisite. What he did not know is that steak is one of, if not the best food I can cook. Tonight (5 Feb 10) when I got off work my wife had pulled 2 of the steaks for me to cook. They were sauteed in light butter over low heat until they were a nice medium rare. Here”s where the whole reason for comment comes in. The first bite I had was all fat. I realized that the reason the meat was so pink in the first place was because its own blood juice was surrounding it – good trick by the way. The steak tasted like hamburger that has been processed more than dirty toilet water turned into tap water. My wife had at best about 3 “good” pieces. It”s insulting to serve my wife such a terrible piece of meat and it”s also insulting that your company would try to pass this (no better word) ### off as “Prime USDA Choice Steaks”. At the very least you will refund my money immediately by the end of this coming week. I also expect additional imbursement so that I can by my wife and I Delmonico steaks that I know are of good quality.

I am a resident of Harrisonburg, VA. I was recently approached at my home by Monte Grandstaff from Capital Meats. He was very pushy and insistent that I let him in my house so that he could show me what a wonderful deal he had for me. He would not leave, so finally I let him in. Once inside, I realized that he smelled of alcohol and another scent that I thought may have been marijuana. He kept insisting that I make a purchase, he would not leave. Even though I felt that the price was extremely high, I finally bought so that he would leave. The next day I fixed some of the burgers on the grill. There was so much fat in them, that it caused a grease fire. I have tried to call Mr. Grandstaff several times to complain and he will not return my calls. Please, if this man knocks on your door, do not let him in.

Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
I have bought 3 times from the salesman from this company. The last two purchases were of good quality and the sales rep was rough but always promised to please. This last purchase, the meat looked fantastic, but the meat has no taste and we cannot eat it. We contacted Capital Meats and the sales rep has been calling with excuses as to why he has not been out to take care of the situation. My next stop is the Attorney Generals Office of Maryland. I will also be leafletting my neighborhood to tell them about my experience and to save them from these thieves. Do not buy from James Endres, the salesman, or listen to his lies! Do not buy meat from men with freezers strapped to their pick up trucks. Do not buy from this company! Call the police if they come to your door!
Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
I purchased some meat from a salesman who came to my door just before I was leaving to go out on 12-18-14. He made his pitch stating that he only had a few steaks left and that I would get a special price and some free chicken if I were to purchase. He told me the meat was fresher and cheaper than I could buy in the supermarket but could not tell me the total weight of beef I was buying. He emptied the individual boxes of steak into a large box. I hurriedly put them in the freezer. When I asked about the free chicken, it was gone. He also said that my satisfaction was guaranteed and that I could replace any items I was not happy with. It wasn”t until after the holidays that I first tried one of the steaks. None of them were individually marked so I did not really know what cut we were grilling but it was awful. I then realized that each piece was only about 6 ounces and my total purchase was costing me more than I could buy fresh from the Amish market and know what I was eating. I contacted Capital meats about my complaints the first week in January to arrange for a return or replacement and was told that they would not in the offices until the second week of January. When I didn”t hear from them I called again and was told that I was still on the list to be contacted and that I would receive a call no later than Feb. 1. Again I did not hear from them. I called again and was told that they had to replace all of the corporate officers in that branch but they would certainly be in touch. Finally the end of February I contacted my credit card company to dispute the charges because they had not contacted me to offer any type of resolution. When Capital Meats was contacted by my credit card company they declined rescinding the order as I did not follow their return policy which was impossible as the salesman took all of the original packaging. The product was misrepresented, and I was never contacted to resolve my complaints. To make matters worse, after receiving the letter from Capital Meats stating that they would not consider my request for a refund, I tried to call the Call Center Manager responsible for the letter and the number was not in service!

Capital Meats Reviews & Complaints
I recently purchased the Premium Steak and Premium Chicken options from a driver who came to my door. The meat looked great in the packages and we were so looking forward to some fine eating however the meat is so tough that my husband has wound up throwing it away because it too tough to even cut with a steak knife! I have tried marinating it, grilling, frying and baking to no avail. We now have hundreds of dollars worth of meat that is inedible. Even the chicken is tough!! I will never have anything to do with Capital Meat again
