Rip-off scam report on Cara Operations I have included the email conversations and transaction information below in six sections to prevent anyone else in getting scammed by Cara Operations or anyone claiming to hire an Account Officer for this company. 1st -I received this email below: Your resume was forwarded to me from your school career center in response to an employment/job vacancy. Kindly get back to me at your earliest convenience if you are still looking for an opportunity to pursue. Regards, Matthew McLendon Hiring Manager 2nd- After responding that I was still looking for employment I received this email below: Cara Operations Limited is a Canadian company that provides catering services to airlines and operates several restaurant chains including: Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet, Kelsey’s, Milestones and Montana’s. Its headquarters are in Vaughan, Ontario in the Greater Toronto Area. It was previously headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario. In November, 2008, the company moved to its new headquarters in Vaughan, Ontario near Vaughan Mills shopping center. In 2002, sales for the whole company were C$1.9 billion. 88% of the business comes from the restaurant services with the remaining 12% deriving from airline catering. The name Cara was derived from the first two letters of each of the words “Canada Railway”; it is also an Irish word meaning “friend”. However we have vacancies for the position of an Personal Assistant/Office Assistant and an Accounts Officer. We are currently interviewing a couple of candidates for the position for the aforementioned positions. However, we have not sourced interested candidates for the position of the Account Officer. If you apply for that I can guarantee you the position if you are determined. Your primary responsibility as our account officer will be to handle payments from time to time from our customers. I am the head of the accounts department so I can assist you whenever you need more tutoring or information about the position. What is the typical day or week look like for a person in this position? If there is traveling involved, how often will I be commuting? If I am extended the job offer, how soon would you like me start? Do you need a list of references? 4th- I received this email and no response to the following questions above? Dear Applicant, This is to let you know that your application and information was received. We currently have 7 slots for this position nationwide and presently we have received over 30 qualified applicants. We have decided to run a test on each applicant to be able to screen & choose the best 7 applicants to fill up this position. In this test which will allow you to process your 1st transaction, we will be assessing the following: 1. Efficiency of applicants 2. Applicant’s ability to carry out instructions 3. Applicant’s ability to perform his/her duty in a timely manner. Your information has been submitted and a package will be issued out to you for your test assignment. Regards, Matthew McLendon ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT CARA OPS 5th – I received this email below 3 weeks later with a request to cash a check? This is to inform you that a transaction has been completed and you will be receiving your 1st payment for processing this morning via FedEx. The payment is for $1,976. On delivery of payment, you are to send a notification that payment has been received and then proceed with the processing. Once you receive the payment kindly deposit it via your banks mobile app, if you don’t have one, please visit your banks website and download one. If it becomes too stressful to do that, kindly head to your bank today and have the check deposited, please note that a (third) or less off the total amount will be made available to you immediately, make that known to me so I can give you more instructions on what to do next. As a matter of fact I would need you to send me a copy of the deposit slip provided to you across the counter after deposit has been made. Note: If the slip would reveal vital information about your account details please mark it out before sending please. You are to deduct 10% as earlier discussed ($197) and you’ll be sending the rest of the funds($1,779) to the customer whose information will be given to you as soon as you’re ready to send the rest of the funds to him/her. Once the task has been completed you are to send me Info/Details such as: {i} Deposit Slip {ii} Amount available for withdrawal {iii} Due Date for total sum to be available if not available on the 1st day of deposit. I received only check with no company letter head and Cara Operations is suppose to be a fast food chain in Canada, I questioned why I would get a cashiers check from a Home Owners Association and the sender on the envelope did not have a company name just a private individual named “Atumn Horrall – Freeman, Melon Acres INC P.O. Box 198, Oaktown, IN 47561 phone number: 812-745-2807. In addition, I keep getting a text from this so-called Matthew Mclendon at 205-544-2253”.
