CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
Back in 2010 I hired CertaPro Painters to pressure wash and re-stain the exterior of my home and the surrounding decking. I obtained quotes from several different companies, but selected CertaPro because they were recommended by a plumber that I thought seemed honest, Mike Mackin of Mackin & Sons. Tracy Schlitzer was the CertaPro salesperson that came to my home to do an estimate. She went to great lengths to tell me she “understood” what it”s like as a single woman to find the right contractor and “assured” me that CertaPro only used their own employees who were qualified and underwent background checks. She specifically told me they DO NOT use subcontractors. Two guys came out to do the job, the project manager “Joe” who oversaw the job but didn”t actually do any work, and “Jason” who also happened to have a side business as a locksmith. They used only hot water to wash the house and burned up my hot water tank the first day. Which resulted in me having to pay $300 to the plumber, Mike Mackin, who recommended CertaPro to me. Then they spray painted over all of the landscaping surrounding the deck, including the mature azaleas, and gigantic oak trees–not schrubs that you could easily overlook. Almost seemed intentional. They disappeared for a day, saying they had trouble finding the replacement boards for the wood deck. Carter Lumber is 2 miles from my house. They tried to hand me the final bill without actually painting under the eaves or other areas along the roofline, and left trash under the back deck. They tried to tell me the final bill was $200 more than the contract b/c they needed to buy extra materials. But when I looked closer at the paperwork, they had stapled the 2nd page of someone else”s contract to mine. I couldn”t believe how unprofessional this company was and didn”t think more about it until this spring. That”s when I noticed that they didn”t actually replace the rotted boards or fill in bee holes and damaged wood at the higher part of the house. I used my digital camera to zoom in and confirmed that they barely painted in some locations. The contract required 2 coats and backrolling of expensive Sherwin Williams stain. Parts of the house are green even though they supposedly used mold/mildew resistant brand. I called Rich Toriello, the owner of CertaPro this spring. He told me at that time that these guys were not even CertaPro workers, but subcontractors and that he no longer uses Jason because of some “problem” that he wouldn”t disclose. I have reason to believe that Jason was involved in criminal activity and told Mr. Toriello that I”ve had break-ins/trespassing since using CertaPro. Despite my obvious concerns, Mr. Toriello refuses to give me the names of the two men who were on my property. IF YOU ARE A SINGLE FEMALE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. While I could live with a paint company lying about the quality of the work they do, I am utterly shocked that they would lie and conceal information about their workers. My contract includes information about workers comp liability and had no reason to think that Jason and Joe were not actually employees. I filed a complaint with the corporate office and the local BBB, and decided to post my experience on this site because of the number of people who”ve also been duped by CertaPro. This was not an inexpensive job, and CertaPro was not the lowest bid. I picked them because of what turned out to be blatant misrepresentations.

Called CertaPro to get a quote. I had no idea who they are, decided they should be good as any. Actual person who oversaw the work was different from the person we had contact with to discuss details. Painted the inside of my house. Preparation was lacking, a lot of the older paint wasn’t scraped properly. I am afraid this will be double the trouble next time we paint. I wouldn’t mind if they would have asked for more money when things were non-standard, but they just did what they decided would suffice. Didn’t paint windows where concealed (painted them when shut). Paint came off when windows were opened.
CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
Certa Pro in Dayton is the worst in customer service. We called in to complain after looking at the job in the sun. We called expressing out concern of cloudy shutters, and application problems to on cedar. The owner, Stephanie, did come out and argued with me the entire time. She informed she would have to get a third party in to look at it. First of all, it was evident there was a problem. Secondly, you should never argue with customer. To continue, Sherwin Williams (Third Party they insisted on having) did come out looked at the problems and stated it was an application problem. The same painters came out and did redo the shutters and then came out 22 days later to roller the cedar. The job was completed in 25 minutes (another complaint). They did in a hurry and it looks that way. You can see where they stop and started with the roller. Do not recommend them due to bad customer service and not completing job according to contract and customer satisfaction.

CertaPro is the worst comapny I have evr hired. They did a poor job, refused to honor their contract, wouldn”t finish the job after they were paid, and left a huge mess. They chopped down many of my plants because they didn”t want to cover them or move around them. The painter brought his girlfriend to paint because he had other jobs to do. She was not an employee and hadn”t painted before. They wouldn”t power wash, scrape or prime; instead they painted over dirt and peeling paint. They wouldn”t put house numbers or light fixtures back on, nor would they clean up their garbage, coffee cups, paint cans, etc. They dripped paint everywhere, missed places altogether, and did a messy job on the areas they did paint. Once, he didn”t feel like getting his ladder down, so he stood on/inside my planter and crushed my plants. When I complained and confronted the owner, she said, “You get what you pay for”. Well, I didn”t get what I paid for…according to the contract. I have moved my outdoor furnishings back, and now have to hire someone else to paint my house, even though I already paid CertaPro. Countless friends and neighbors have been shocked to see the horrible job that was started.

CertaPro Roanoke VA – This company called CertaPro Painters in Roanoke VA did a very bad job painting a house, they are very shabby and rude on the phone. There are many great painting contractors in Roanoke VA and CertaPro Roanoke VA is not one of them. It is my sole opinion that CertaPro is a bad company and needs to be more respectful of it’s clients and the local community that supports them.

Choose any company other than this one! They have no respect for your time, property, or a job well done. They borrowed items, broke them, and put them back without a word… killed hundreds of dollars worth of rare perennial plants… painted the whole house the wrong color, tried to rush and lie their way through the job, violating every requirement of the manufacturer of the product they used and telling us it was okay. I had to get the manufacturer involved. Parts of the house look horrible. They ruined outlets with careless power washing, and also didn’t properly prepare many parts of the house for staining, leaving old stain in place. The competely forgot to remove or replace stain on part of the house, so it was a drastically different color with nine years of weathering, and they requested pay as if the job was done. They required multiple “safety stand downs” and meetings which cost us way too much time and money. They usually didn’t come when promised and would show up on random weekend afternoons. I could elaborate forever. The owner was nice, and I think he tried to apologize, but it was not nearly enough to make up for the extreme inconvenience, property damage, and regret for hiring this company. The finished house does not make me very proud.
CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
I contracted Certapro to paint, and stain my house and deck March 15th 2010. It is now June 8th and my house is still not finished. The weather was never an issue it was the service. One or two painters showed up for a couple of hours to powerwash my house..they did not know what to use to brighten the house. They suggested instead of a natural stain to opaque stain it…I refused…they finally came up with a solution. The painters they have put on my house are incompetent for the job they have to do. They have burned my landscaping bushes..instead of covering them they wet them. Either no one shows up or different painters show up to make suggestions and then leave. A party was scheduled at my home this past weekend and I had to hire a restaurant to have it in…the deck was sanded and gouged…my house is a mess .. they keep taking on customers and letting the old ones wait…I am disgusted. I want my money back and I will go elsewhere.
CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
I guess we were lucky after reading some of the complaints here. We had scheduled an appointment to meet at noon. The man never showed. Actually, he showed 40 minutes late and called to ask where we were and he seems surprised when we had returned to our jobs. Very inconsiderate! However, I realized if he couldn’t make the appointment, then he would not be a good choice for a painter.
CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
I had Certa Pro Painters of Frisco to paint couple rooms in my house. I was really disappointed with the quality that they did. They don’t clean up their mess that they made. They don’t use any plastic cover/drop cloth to cover up the floors or counters. I had paint splashes/dripped all over the place. The workers were very unprofessional. They walked in and out of the house w/o taking their dirty shoes off and it leaves lots of dirty spots all over the wood floor and also the carpet. VERY MESSY! Need less to say, the subcontractor that Certa Pro sent over to do the job can’t even speak English. I was having diffuclity communicating w/them. The work that they did was HORRIBLE. Taylor from Certa Pro doesn’t seems like he knows what quality means because he still think his workers did a great job. I will not use them ever again. I DONT recommend Certa Pro of Frisco to anyone.

I had the displeasure of encountering Don & Carolyn Militor in Colorado and found him to be flaky and cold personality. Did not like him at all. Would never use them! Thought he was strange and wierd…
CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
I hired Certa Pro painters thinking I was going to get a professional job done..after spending thousands of dollars, I have nothing to show except, paint drippings, paint that appears to be splattered on, missing paint in areas, pimples all over the walls, distinct roller and paint brush marks, repairs that were supposed to be made that were not, or if they were, were unprofessionally done and still quite visible, every room has a problem… not one room in the entire house is perfect or near perfect…I had the franchisee and his manager back in the house to inspect…they agreed on what I showed them, and all I was offered was to “fix” what they didn’t do right to begin with…after spending all that money there shouldn’t be anything that needs to be “fixed” let alone every room in the house…I do not want CertPro Painters back in my home, they should’ve stood by their motto and “did the job right the first time”…one of the painters conveniently took a house key I had hanging on a wall, put it in his pocket, “for safekeeping”, and when I realized the key was missing, we called the franchisee to find out where the key was, thinking it was placed somewhere in my home, instead we were told the painter had it in his pocket for “safekeeping” so it wouldn’t get lost…imagine a professional painter doing this!!! I don’t think so. I’ve asked for at least a refund of half the money, the franchisee led me to believe he would agree, after having his attorney draw up a paper so I can sign it and end the story…today I called him he said his attorney told him not to give me back a dime…meantime thousands of dollars were spent and my home looks like it was never painted. There are so many mars and mistakes, it is impossible for me to mention them all. I did have blue tape all over the house showing where they are and if need be I will be glad to put them right back up again for anyone to inspect. I contacted BBB and Consumer Affairs, but BBB advised me this company would prefer to work their problems out with the customer, but they are not doing that. I need help in trying to get compensated for this unprofessional job. I shouln’t have paid him in full, but I didn’t realize all the blunders until my house was back to normal and I really inspected the paint job. There are cracks that were supposed to be repaired that were not done and just painted over…I chose Super White color for my ceilings, they didn’t use super white, I don’t know what was used…I can go on and on but… I’m hoping that someone will be able to assist me with this problem.
CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
I hired Vee and CertaPro after she sold me on their high quality customer service satisfaction and a thoroughly written, carefully worded contract. She failed to follow any steps in the contract, wouldn”t powerwash, prime, etc. They painted over dirt and peeling paint. Then, after I complained, she pulled the painter off the job for two weeks. When he came back to do some work, the painter had his girlfriend (not a painter; not an employee) paint my house. They wouldn”t put house numbers back on, light fixtures, replace furnishings, etc. They left behind all of their garbage, coffee cups, etc. They spit chew spit everywhere the entire time they were here. They didn”t want to cover or tape, so they hacked down my bushes, yet still spilled paint all over everything. Since my second complaint, they refuse to now return to even finish a minimal job. Their response is, “You get what you pay for”, even thought they chose the price and wrote the contract which they will not honor. Countless people have looked at their work and are truly shocked at the poor quality. I could have done much better myself.
CertaPro Painters Reviews & Complaints
I post this to assist anyone considering hiring Certa Pro Painters to do work on your home. I have been an independent painting contractor for over 20 years, and recently I have been in discussions with a Certa Pro franchise owner who is trying to convince me that it is a good idea to go to work for him. This guy has no practical experience and does not know what he is talking about, he just has a fancy looking truck and franchise website support/programs to guide him through making his bid for particular projects and the pricing. I will try to keep it simple in explaining why this is a bad deal all around. First, the franchise owner does nothing except get the jobs and then get another subcontractor to do all the work for them. For this he makes 53% of the total job cost, the subcontractor actually doing the work gets 47%. The subcontractor has to pay for all the materials, provide all the necessary licenses and insurance applicable, pay for travel costs, everything job related. In researching in whether I should even try to work for Certa Pro as a subcontractor, I looked at several potential projects which were already under contact to the local franchise owner – Their prices are about 25% higher than what I would charge, so price-wise it is not a good deal for the homeowner even without considering the quality of the subcontractor who will consider working for 47% of Certa Pros contract price. Materials cost a subcontractor approx. 23-28% of the total job cost. Travel expenses can be prohibitive. Paying your insurance and workmans comp each year is another expense that is not accounted for. Bottom line is that no competent and completely legal subcontractor can work for Certa Pro, that is why the homeowner gets the shaft in the end. You are better off by finding a local competent painter by research thru the local paint stores and your friends experiences. The people who hire a Certa Pro franchisee will not be dealing with him whatsoever unless he is collecting your check. The only painters I know who work for Certa Pro are the types who have all their paperwork in order, and then they have a crew of mostly illegals doing all the work. That is the only way they can make any money in this deal. If you hire a Certa Pro franchise owner to paint your house chances are very high that you will be paying a high premium for poor quality work. If you can understand the basic business mechanics of how this franchise is set up then it is easy to understand why the complaints you will read from other homeowners happen. The bottom line is the actual company doing your work will not be the guy who you negotiated the deal with, and he makes over half the money for not doing much more than looking fancy and talkiing slick and crunching numbers thru his computer programs to determine the price of the project. Certa Pro franchise owners are not real painters, they just bought a franchise thinking they are going to make a bunch of money. The local Certa Pro guy in my area seems to be having a difficult time in actually finding people who will do the work – Unless you are a fly by night painter who hires illegals I cannot see how any legitimate subcontractor can do these type jobs professionally for 47% of the price. It just cant happen. Please do your own thorough due diligence before hiring any painting company and ask alot of questions and make sure to use your common sense people.
