My car was acting as if it was driving over washboard, so I took it to my mechanic. He said the torque converter clutch solenoid was giving an error code 39. I took it to Choice Transmission, because it was the closest, and paid 300 for a tear down. The mechanic said a whole new rebuild is needed and it’d cost 2000.00 for parts and labor. It is a ’93 Bonneville and the car isn’t worth 2000.00. He said that since I’m not going to pay, he was going to leave the car on the hoist and had no plans on putting the transmission back in any time soon. Two weeks later, I called him and said a tow truck was getting the car and transmission. On thursday he called and said he’d do the same job for 800.00. I told him I’m not interested. The tow truck came, but he didn’t turn over the transmission. What was he hiding? That only the solenoid needed to be replaced? One can only assume so, otherwise the transmission would have been returned as well. The same job was done for 600.00, parts and labor. An attempted 2000.00 price tag for a 600.00 job is a complete and total scam. These are the people have ability and knowledge but use it to hurt people who have done them no harm.
