In February 2004, I took my 1999 Dodge Intrepid into the dealership for service because the transmission was making a whining noise and slipping. The Chrysler Dealership stated the cause of my problems were leaking 1/2 inch diameter transmission cooler lines. HOWEVER, their diagnosis was based COMPLETELY on an EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION INSPECTION – NO INTERNAL DIAGNOSIS WAS MADE. I was told these lines were not covered under the service agreement and would cost $750.00 to repair. I declined the repairs. My transmission did on fact fail in March 2004 and it was taken to a licensed transmission specialist for repair. At the transmission specialist, the diagnosis was that the failure originated from the Low Reverse Piston Hydraulic Internal or “D” Ring, a “warranted” part. At this point, Chrysler refuses to acknowledge that the “External Inspection” at their dealership may have been inaccurate and I am, for the moment, out $1850.00. What can I do??
