Barbara, the owner of C&M Ostomy Supply, hired me 2 years ago to build her a new website for her company. At first, I offered her a custom website, but she refused, saying it was too expensive for her, so I offered her another option: a themed website that would require a minimal amount of work and could serve every function she needs. Barbara was referred to me by a close friend, who asked me to please take care of her and make sure she’s happy. Little did I know what this would entail. Barbara proceeded to try and customize every single part of this new website. My first programmer quit after 3 months because he said he could tell she will never be satisfied with anything. I should have walked away at this point. My second programmer left after about 8 months, for the same exact reason. My third programmer (a good friend of mine), quit after almost a year and accused me of allowing Barbara to pay us less than pennies per hour for this job. I am a man of my word, however, and decided to stick it out and complete this job – with the hope that Barbara would understand how much time and effort I have put in to this project and compensate me accordingly. I recently finished her new website with yet another programmer. He refused to do any more work until Barbara has paid, and he was about to leave for the same reasons all the other programmers left. I emailed Barbara telling her that the website is almost ready to go live and asking if she thought it was reasonable that I had been working on her website for 2 years, hired multiple people, paid money out of my own pocket just to make her happy – and basically asking her if she’d be willing to compensate me for my time spent. Barabra proceeded to tell me that I have been paid in full already (which is a lie), she locked me out of her server and essentially STOLE all of the hard work I had put in for the last 2 years. She told me that whatever I owe my programmer is MY problem, and that none of this is her fault. Every single person I hired to work with me had the same complaint about Barbara, that she was taking advantage of us and every time we thought we were almost done with the site, she would come up with a new list of absurd changes. I should have known better. Whenever I would tell her that we just cannot continue making these changes, she would threaten legal action on me. She essentially forced me and my team to work for 2 years for less than pennies an hour, and then she STOLE the work we did and refused to pay what is owed. I would not trust Barbara or her company for this reason. If she is this willing to backstab and steal from someone who has been, out of the kindness of their heart, providing HER with a service, I’d hate to think what she could be doing to people that she provides any kind of service for. .
