These guys are going to spam you like hell. They are too desperate for any sales and they will do anything for getting one. Recently a salesman from Direct Energy showed up to our house, we asked him to come inside as it was really cold out there. He claimed that he was associated with our energy company. He manipulated me to sign a contract stating that I will be billed for a fee. Soon after I signed the document, he told me that he actually was from Direct Energy and he was just taking 30 bucks from our account and not changing our service. I was like WHAT THE FUCK!!! You can’t just lie to make a sale. This shit was too sketchy. I signed the contract when my wife was present in the room, so I thought that she would understand what he was really saying, however, she thought the same and we ended up signing the contract totally unaware of the fact that we are getting scammed. When we realized that we were manipulated into signing this stupid contract, I tried to stop the guy as I thought he would be nearby, however, by the time I got there; he had already left the building. It was after 8 PM so we couldn’t call the company and get customer support from Direct Energy as the offices were close by then. Even then we tried calling them a few times, but the call was never received. The next day I called Direct Energy and a grumpy young girl picked up the phone. I told her about the whole situation and just as I was explaining my situation, she put me on hold while I was talking. After 10 minutes she connected the line and acted like nothing happened. She asked me to explain the whole thing all over again and so I did. She told me that she could not help me in this situation and my account hasn’t been activated yet. I’m pretty sure that Direct Energy customer service staff is trained to tell people this answer, as now I’m totally stuck with this $30 fee. I don’t like complaining but these guys have crossed the line. I don’t want to make a big deal out of this but charging a person for a service that he or she DOESN”T EVEN NEED is just pathetic. I hope that the company resolves this issue, but until then I can’t say that Direct Energy is a reliable company. I would suggest you checkout any other company but them. If anyone from Direct Energy knocks at your door, be prepared to just ignore them. Because if you give them any response, they are going to suck on you like leeches. Many of my friends and neighbours are frustrated because the people from Direct Energy contact those dozens of times ever week. Just stay away from these creeps and you will be okay.

Direct Energy bills people for water heaters
Direct Energy bills people for water heaters that do not belong to them. Beware that Direct Energy sends individuals to inspect water heaters and furnaces in homes and then takes the serial numbers of your appliances to enter that information into their systems. Later on, they will begin to charge you for rental of items that do not belong to them. Around the year 2001, I by mistake allowed one of their representatives to enter into my house and few months later they began to bill me throught the gas company without my knowledge for a water heater that belonged to me and not to them. After I realized that I was being charged for my own water heater and some years of trying to solve the dispute (because they love to delay resolution of the issue to continue charging money); in the year 2013 I ended up allowing them to remove (steal) my water heater, all in the hope of not paying more money, not wasting more time and not being harassed by them. However, few weeks ago, I began to receive collection calls with no explanation about the actual reason for the charges. In other words, 2 years after I allowed them to steal my water heater and got into an agrement that after giving the tank I would no longer be charged, they misteriously managed to fabricate another bill. Additionally, not only did they failed to provide proof of ownership (like a receipt showing a list of the serial numbers of the water heaters they allege to own) all these years, or copy of a rental contract with me or with the previous owner of this house, they conveniently say that if I want a copy of any document to clarify this new bill, I need to pay $75 dollars! Of course, any dishonest company like Direct Energy can really mess up the good credit history of a person. But as I never steel anything from anyone, why should I open my wallet for them to take money I do not owe them? What garantee has a person that after paying a fabricated bill they are not going to create another fictitious bill in the future? In summary, BEWARE of Direct Energy. If any one appears from that company into your house DO NOT let them in. They are theives and they will still data they will use to bill your for things they do not own.
Today 3 representives came to my door.
Today 3 representives came to my door. They started by telling me that I have not responded to required information that has been requested on my ConEd utility bill for the last 6 months. They were here to help explain it to me and obtain the information required. They asked to see one of my ConEd bills from the last 6 months. I obliged and presented them my last bill. They then started asking me for my name and looked to start filling in a form. I asked them what it was that I hadn’t responded to and to show me where this request was on the bill. Two of them looked through the bill for a full minute and then could not explain or show me what it was that there were there for. Then one of oof them says “Oh, you’re with Green Mountain!”. Green Mountain is the ESCO that I have selected and is my electric supplier. I then asked who they worked for. They then said that they work closely with ConEd and are their preferred supplier. After a few more questions they finally told me that they were with Direct Energy and they would sign me up to save me money. I asked if they were an ESCO and, now more than 5 minutes into the conversation, they identified themselves as being with an ESCO. They then immediately went back to the form and started filling it out. I asked them to pause and explained that I just went through a long process to compare ESCO rates and unless they could show me very clearly what rates they had and what I would be saving I would not proceed. The bill they were looking at was at 16.9 cents p/kWh, but I explained I just negotiated 9.9 cents p/kWh. I asked for their rate and said if it isn;t lower then I am not switching. They said their rate was 12.29 cents p/kWh including tax, but because of their relationship with ConEd the bill would be lower. I asked how. The rep who identified herself as Liz proceeded to ramble off lie after lie. She took a pen to my bill and crossed out the ConEd electric delivery charge and said that would go away. I told that that was impossible. Every customer pays electric supply and delivery! With some pushing on my part she finally admitted that I was correct and that charge would not go away. She then said that with tax my current rate would come out more than her rate which included tax. I excused myself to get a calculator and did the math. My rate was clearly lower than the one she was offering. It’s now been 10 mins and I told them that I have a good rate and I am not changing. I asked for the form that they began filling out without my consent and they refused. I told them I was not switching to Direct Energy so I hope they did not do anything without my permission. The tactics they used deceptive. They made a number of false claims and outright lies. I happen to be educated on this subject and was able to call them out on their lies and make a good decision. I see these 3 young ladies going door to door up and down my block today and I do not know how many people are being misled and deceived into thinking they are getting a much better deal than is possible. They are misrepresenting who they are, their relationship with ConEd and their product.
Direct Energy, without question, is the worst
Direct Energy, without question, is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. I have had several issues with the company in the past but my current issue has me furious. My Air Conditioner was in working order this spring, fan was running, air was blowing, but the air was not very cold, I checked the guage on the unit and it was almost out of coolant. I called Direct Energy, explained the situation, and told them that my unit was quite old (from 1985). They told me I needed to go on their cooling protection plan but the service call would be covered and they would charge my unit with coolant. A few days later a technician comes out, takes one look at my unit and tells me that it’s out of coolant (which I already knew) and he cannot charge it with more becuase it is against the law, I need to buy a new unit. He was correct (I looked it up), he could not have charged my unit with freon. So I replaced my unit after some debate. I called Direct Energy back, asking them to remove the cooling plan since I gave them the info on the unit on the phone and specifically said it needed a freon charge and the agent should have known that wasn’t possible. They have since told me they will not remove the plan so I must keep it for a full year ($120 for the year) or they can remove it and I pay for the service call ($100). Escilation to supervisors has done nothing. The company simply does not care. I am removing all services with Direct Energy and will never give them my business ever again.

Recently discovered elect bill was enormous. When called peco my elect company was told Direct Energy was our supplier and they were charging over .13 a kw and our use was 5375 which went up 101% at .13 per kw peco cancelled direct energy as supplier imediatly when i called why bill so high. i was told to find out how we got switched from our supplier to Direct Energy, i called direct energy after many attempts and being disconnected twice and hung up on once by customer service i find out they direct energy had different ph no for us but a email address, told me that my wife switched, however my wife has no knowledge as to who direct energy was and would never switch with out discussing with me and then i would make the call if that was the plan to switch to new suppplier. now i am stuck for 2 months of billing over a 1042.00 elect bill because our normal rate of 8.4 per kw went up over 13 and double the kw per month, without anything changing with in the house as far as normal usage. they dierct energy told me they sent 2 letters to resign contract and several attempts by ph. for rates or would be put on flex rate. never heard of direct energy myself till peco pointed out the bill to me and asked me to look at it at bottom and thats when i said who is direct energy i thought ok so what direct energy so what what does that mean to me without any knowledge as to who direct energy was why would i care what they send in mai.l ripped off and fighting mad. peco has froze my bill since i found out in feb but now have to fight with direct energy or end up paying feb march bills at direct energy pricing

A man appeared at my door at 8:30 pm(black dark) and was wearing an ID badge and carrying a clipboard with “energy guide” information on it. I said I wasn”t interested and he said “I have to talk to you to sign you off the list in your neighbourhood ” and pointed to other houses in the vicinity. I insisted I was NOT interested and he pounded on my door. Stupidly, I opened it and spoke with him where he asked about my air conditioner /furnace. He asked to come in my house and see my furnace and made an attempt to see my “covered air conditioner”. I told him I was not letting him in to my house but would get the information he was needing? but when I told him I used oil heating he abruptly turned and left…leaving me frightened and feeling very vulnerable…and stupid for opening the door. Never Again…

A salesman for direct energy came to my home and talked me in to trying direct energy. He said I would hace the cheapest bills ever, and that I could cancel if I wasn”t happy. After the first half month I couldn”t tell but then when I got my full bill, it was $130 dollars higher than any electric bill I have had at my home for the 20 years I”ve been there. I immediately called TXU asked to come back. Upon getting my final bill I found they added a $300 EARLY CANCELLATION FEE. On their website it reads no cancellation fees. Go figure. I paid all but the cancellation fee immediately, and the found that they turned me in to a collection agency. I will file a complaint with the PUC and the BBB. Also I will have my lawyer send them a letter, and possibly file on them. We all could file a CLASS ACTION suit and this would go very public about their deceptive ways. Whatever anyone does, do not use direct energy for anything. This is an awful company.

A woman knocked at the door around 7 pm, very rainy night, said she was from “the electric company”. I stated to her I was very surprised the electric company was sending young women knocking on doors at that hour. Naturally I assumed it was PECO, she stated the neighbors have been complaining about the electric rates and may she see any of my electric bills. I should have realized she was NOT from the electric company if she didn”t have access to my electric bills, major deceit. I naively went and got one where she proceeded to tell me I should be paying a lower rate, thus saving X amount of dollars and if I signed up now, etc., etc. I stated “You are not from the Electric companny.” ONLY at that point, “No, I”m from Direct Energy. I”m only in the area for 20 more minutes, we can sign you up now.” Very aggressive. I told her repeatedly I”m not interested. At that point I stated I was going to shut the door. Major deceit from the get go!!!

After having one of their door to door sales reps come to my house and PROMISED that the early exit fees would be waived from another co., I signed up. This rep sat in my house, asked to have a soda, if she could have something to eat, told me how to renovate my house, and if I could fraudulently sign up my neighbours. I had to ASK her to leave my house! I discovered that the early fess are NOT waived. I cancelled my contract! Thus far I am being charged 210.00 for administrative fees for cancelling a contract and the fed for returning a NEST thermostat; which I have NOT received as of this evening! So far having direct energy COME TO MY HOUSE UNSOLICITED has cost me: many phone call and emails, 210.00 in administrative fees and shipping and handling of a thermostat I never received. Thus far it has been a REMARKABLE EXPERIENCE!

As like many others, I have had several problems with Direct Energy. I felt the need to not only let consumers know, but also those running the company. I am sincerely hoping that making these key persons aware of how the company is operating, some changes will be made. I would encourage people to write kind, factually-based letters if you are looking for things to change. Direct Energy Services Reviews & Complaints
Check your furnace warranties FIRST before agreeing to pay for any parts/labour. We just learned that we almost got scammed a third time on Direct Energy service call. Our furnance is about 11-12 yrs old but when it was 3 or 4 yrs old, we contacted Direct Energy for service. Apparently, water got into our circut board and had to be replaced. We were baffled as had no idea where water could have possibly come from. Then less than 2 yrs ago, we had to replace the blower because water had gotten into it — again Direct Energy. On both occasions we expressed to Direct Energy that furnace was still pretty new, asked them for an explanation how water could have gotten into furnace when no water near it, but no satisfactory response. Just last week heat would come on but after few minutes, heat would turn off. Fan, blower, everything working just heat would go off too soon. Called Direct Energy who told us that heat exchanger had to be replaced and the other heat exchanger would have to also be replaced at cost of $800 for each plus labour and tax. He shut off the gas telling us too dangerous. Told us as so expensive to fix, recommended just buying new furnace and he would send someone over … Direct Energy furnace salesman showed up very quickly. Recommended furnaces that were rated half the capacity as our house rated for, said we don’t need such large furance, but my gut told me if I had to get new furance, it would be for what is recommended for my home. Thought I would get second opinion. Independant guy comes to the house, looks at furnace, says can you do without furnace until Monday? (We are lucky that have alternate emergency heat source – fireplace, baseboard and room heaters) Wants to check if parts covered under warranty first … !!! Even after we told him that beyond 10 yrs and couldn’t find any paperwork. He said heat exchanger could have limited warranty or lifetime and even if not covered under warranty, new one would be NO WHERE NEAR QUOTE BY DIRECT ENERGY. He took model and serial and low and behold, don’t have to pay for parts … labour only. But the really sad part is that turns out that first service guy, as well as second, from Direct Energy should have picked up on water issue … apparently, anytime water on circut board or blower, suggests heat exchanger issue but turns out that in both previous instances, all parts & labour would have been covered under warranty! … Even after we told service guys fairly new furance!!! So Direct Energy scamed us twice before but thank goodness for the little independant guy who not only saved us a bundle, but educated us on warranties and what to look for in future.

Claimed that I agreed to a five year contract for gas and hydro charges. I agreed to look at the contract after numerous phone calls, having been told that I would have to authorize the contract by phone. I had to specifically ask them if it was a “contract” for 5 years, the make it sound like they are performing a customer service. I called back 6 weeks later to tell them I had definitely decided to go with another company and was told I had already been contacted and signed on 4 weeks earlier. I was told they had tapes. I look forward to hearing them. They are liars, and any tapes will be faked, they commit fraud and will get away with it. I will probably sign with another company, but by the time this is settled it will be at a higher rate. Direct energy will cost me money on a monthly basis for 5 years if this happens.

Date of complaint July, 24, 2017 Account # [protected] I am the daughter of the current account holder. My father was rushed overnight to the University of Alberta hospital to receive a transplant, during this time I have been looking after his bills. I made a mistake while paying the bills and the electricity to their house was going to/or was being cut off. I needed to find out why, thankfully during this time my father was not hooked up to life support as I could not get any information in regards to what was going on with his account. I called, and afterwards my father called to add my name to the account so I could speak to a representative about the issue, he did not have a pleasant phone call with whom he spoke too, but at the end he apparently added my name. The result of the inititial phone call my father had resulted in an elevated blood pressure, he was in tears and felt as though he was being scammed was left feeling helpless. I said I would call back and find out what was going on. So i did, approximately an hour after his phone call with direct energy which resulted in me not being able to speak to anyone as no one had added my name to the account. Due to the incompetence of your customer care representatives, I asked if they could speak to the individual that my father had spoke to as he/she did not do what she was supposed to do. This situation has still not been resolved as I have to get my already upset father to call again. When it comes to these stressful situations in ones life, your employees are not emphatic, compassionate, or useful. If the result of this situation results in my father having a heart attack, or more complications it very well could be direct energy”s fault. Are you taking advantage of people in their sickened state to gain more money? I will tell you from my experience, as a long time direct energy customer myself you definitely do nothing to make the situation any easier. I just wanted my parents house to remain in working order, without any additional costs. I am disgusted, and infuriated at the lack of professional your employees have.

Date of occurrence: 01/16/2015 Area: Canton, MI Couple of agents of Direct energy came to my house on Saturday evening and asked if I had any wrong energy recovery charges on my bills( which are actually a legitimate charge I came to know later)? and then asked me to give them my account number to report it back to the company and get it taken care of. After they left I though it might be a scam, so I checked online and it was. They fool people this way and switch them over without telling them or letting them know. They don”t even ask for any signature or anything. They just switch you over. Now when I am trying to stop it, they are telling me they don”t have any records till now but I am afraid that they will drag the case till the termination time is over and then charge me with the termination fees.
Direct Energy Services Reviews & Complaints
December 2014 a Direct Energy representative came to the door and I mistakenly signed up for their Comfort and Control (?) plan. I realized the mistake the next day and called to cancel; the law requires a 10 day “cooling off” period to allow customers to cancel registration to a utility plan without consequence. They claimed to have cancelled my plan; I called again in about 4 days to confirm that it was cancelled, and they said it was. Come January my other gas and electric providers sent me my “final” bill; Direct Energy had cancelled my other services and taken over as my provider. I cancelled the service and returned to my previous providers; then another month later Direct Energy sent me the Nest thermostat that was part of the plan I had cancelled, so I returned it. another 4 months later they send me a bill for the service for that 15 day period that they were my provider. Another 6 months later I get the “Device Recovery Fee” bill for the Nest thermostat. This company thrives on fraudulent business practices and scamming customers.

Despite responding politely to the first three calls from Direct Energy’s telemarketer’s that I was already in an energy plan and was not interested in dealing with their company, they have phoned another half dozen times and (apparently!) will not remove my number from their call list.

Direct Energy = Vicious bully Corporations tend to put a lot of money into goodwill, advertising their services and creating a positive image in the eyes of the public. All this goes for naught when the same company”s policies are written to screw their customers. In 1998, while living in a house in Richmond Hill, I signed an agreement with Direct Energy to supply my natural gas. Every few years they would contact me for renewal of this agreement; I was always offered to opt out for double or triple gas price. Of course I renewed; it didn”t really matter to me who supplied gas to my house. Finally, last September I sold my house and moved into an apartment in downtown Toronto. This week I was served with a collection notice for $727.63. When I contacted the collection agency I was told that they represented Direct Energy and were charging me a fee for breaking my gas contract. Apparently there are 4.5 years left on my current “renewal”; the fact that I have been a customer for 12 years is irrelevant. The situation was resolved when I faxed in a copy of my current lease proving that I was no longer paying for gas services. Of course, the fax was at my cost (direct energy, you owe me $6.30). If I did not send in this fax, the bullying would continue; I was warned by the collection agency that they would keep calling until this was resolved. So the bottom line, Direct Energy uses contract lawyers and collection agencies to setup their customers for intimidation and bullying. So much for goodwill.

Direct Energy A very pushy salesman from Direct Energy showed up at my door some months ago. He would not go away until I showed him my hydro bill. I actually thought he was from the hydro company soo i showed him my bill. Upon inspection of my hydro bill, he explained that i was paying way too much and not receiving certain benefits that i was entitled to. He actually had me believing that i was entitled to some form of rebate. He talked me into signing a contract “for my protection”. I later discovered that the contract i had signed was to allow this company to supply my electricity. Upon this discovery I promptly called the 800 number on the bottom of the paper. I requested that Direct Energy cancel the contract immediately. The rep was very polite on the phone and assured me that the contract would be cancelled and Direct Energy would not be my supplier. I cancelled the contract before it was even instated. Every time I receive my hydro bill, I have the same unresolved conversation with a polite representative from Direct Energy. I am continuously told that the cancellation request has been submitted and the computer should have the issue resolved before my next billing cycle. Surprise, eight months later and Direct Energy is still on my bill as my supplier. Why would anyone in their right mind agree to paying more for the exact same service that they already have?????? I was taken by a fast talking, lying salesman who represented Direct Energy. Upon realizing what had happened I tried to reverse my error, dealing directly with the offending company. Every representative from Direct Energy must be given a course in lying. Dont trust them, they are far worse than any used car salesman you have ever met. I have been advised by the Ontario Energy Board to put Direct Energy on notice, in writing. I was not even previously aware that there was such a board. If you need help resolving your issues with Direct Energy try giving the OEB a call, perhaps they can help you also. Down with Direct Energy !!!

Direct Energy and Enbridge both claim that St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church has entered into a contract with Direct Energy to supply gas to the Church and yet no such contract exists. A representative of Direct Energy informed me that a contract was made in 2003 for five years. They unilaterally renewed it in 2008 since the Church failed to not authorize Direct Energy and Enbridge to renew the supposed contract. The Church has an account with Enbridge, not with Direct Energy. A reason audit has revealed that the Church is charged approximately three times the going rate for natural gas. These funds were fraudulently obtained and we are demanding that restitution be made.

Direct Energy comes to your door and asked to see your currant bill with London Hydro They offer you a fixed price on your hydro, but don’t tell you that you will be paying the Provincial Benefit over and on top of the rate that they give you. The Provincial Benefit was always and still is included in the London Hydro Rates. The Price they fixed me at was 8.49 cents per kwh and now with the Provincial benefit billed separately the cost is 12.398 cents per kwh not what they quoted me. This amounts to quite a bit of money and when I asked to cancel the contract they want to charge me a very large cancellation fee. Crooks

Direct Energy file number: [protected] (they are charging me for a water tank that I never had) So, I purchased my house on May 2012. I paid my Enbridge/Direct Energy bills until recently (Feb 2015) when I noticed a leak in boiling room. I called Direct Energy and as soon as their technician opened the boiler room door, he said, this tank is not for Direct Energy; it is for another company and it has been changed in 2011 (one year before I purchased the house). I told him, so why does Direct Energy charge me every month? He advised me to call Direct Energy Billing. A representative asked me to provide her with ROM (return of tank) form. I called the other company who had switched the tank; they said they cannot locate ROM form. I called back to Direct Energy and after clarifying that this has nothing to do with me since I have never had Direct Energy tank in my house when I purchased it, a representative asked me to send him the document that shows the purchase date of the house so that they refund the payments made over last 3 years. I emailed the title of my house last week. I followed up this week; they said in the system it shows I need to provide ROM form. So, I had to start over the loop; I asked her that I needed to talk to a supervisor. After a few more calls I could talk to a supervisor. I asked supervisor to provide me with a document that shows I am responsible for a tank that I have never had OR refund my payments. He said he cannot do anything; and my options are to buyout the tank (~$450) or pay monthly rents for the tank that I have never had when I purchased the house. Please note that there is nothing in the title of my house or purchase agreement about their water tank and I have never received anything (like renew form, terms and conditions, etc) from them and never signed anything with them. I said I will file a consumer complaint with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, Better Business Bureau, etc, and spread the story to internet and news and see you in the court.

Direct Energy has several bad online complaints even in Canada. Google it. This company for sure ripped me off. Had bills for $369 for a single wide trailer. then got another company and 1st bill was $79, with Direct Energy bill was never lower than $180, price gouging is my reasoning. Bad customer service, was disconnected 7 time one for $49, what a heartless company. Bye bye

Direct energy is a scam. Direct energy is possibly the worst company we have ever dealt with. We had an issue with one of their water tanks and it has taken literally months to resolve it. We have been told so many different answers and then threatened with huge payments for a water heater we do not rent or own. Every other time we call they say it is resolved and then we receive a threatening phone call telling us that we have to pay or else. This is has been going on for 8 -10 months and still we are no better off than we were originally. It”s appalling that a company can operate like that this day in age. They should be shut down. Do not deal with them on any level.

Do not go with direct energy!!! Save yourself money, time and frustration and shut the the door in the face of these door to door salesmen for this fraudulent american unnecessary middleman of a company! Edmonton. Said salesman had many claims at the door. I had to push for something in writting vs his sayso and he said, & was stated on the signed paperwork, sign up, read it and can cancel within 10 days at no penalty. Ok. Read it over and felt a number of aspects warned that cancelling this new direct energy and continuing as was was best. Called the next day (Well within 10 days) and got a verbal confirmation that account would be processed for cancellation. Done. We moved residence with canada post mail forewarding. Several months later I recieve a bill from direct energy for the old address I no longer live at. Paying someone else”s utility bill with an account that was “in process for cacellation” the day after signing up (Months ago…) and well within the 10 day no penalty cancellation time frame. I called direct energy twice to try to resolve this, each followed with the promise of processing time then followed by a letter saying could not process pay up. Fraud! Do you not hear a notice that call will be recorded for xxx purposes. I”m sure they”ve deleted it by now. Straight up american fraud. I have now recieved a notice that my bill for someone elses residence is going to a collection agency! Infuriating! Do not go with the fraudulant american direct energy!!!

Do not sign up with Direct Energy Heating or Cooling Protection Plan. They have doubled billed me in my annual plan. Charging me twice $229. On top of that the next year after in 2009 someone called at home tricking us to sign up for cooling, they said that we will get something in the mail for more information, but all of a sudden when I saw our bill they charge us extra $39.98 for the cooling plan they were calling for withour our authorization. They are scam artist. DO NOT SIGN UP!

Do not switch your energy supplier to Direct Energy. The door to door sales rep with the manager will mislead you to screwing you over so they can collect commission on sale. Your old energy company will charge you with breaking their contract and you will be left with a bill of $200 or more for breaking their contract. Direct Energy with lie to you and tell you that won’t happen. Guess again. Direct Energy will leave you with the bill. DO NOT SWITCH TO DIRECT ENERGY. When I tried to resolve this with Direct Energy, they said that their company will not pay cancellation fee for anyone. Meaning, you’re on your own.

Due to a error by Direct Energy, they sent Atco Gas to turn off gas service to my home on the morning of April 23. Direct Energy”s database had 2 customers with my address. Several months ago I started receiving overdue bill notices for the other individual who is unknown to me. I marked “Return to Sender, not at this address” on the envelopes and returned them to Direct Energy. I also called their offices to advise that there was an address error. Eventually when this other individual didn”t pay (one, because he doesn”t live here, and two because he never received his mail) they turned off gas service. I spent most of the day on April 23 and April 24 on the phone trying to get this sorted out. All of Direct Energy”s calls are routed through the Philippines and Guatamala and finding someone who could understand the situation was nearly impossible. By the end of the day on April 24, I found someone with the ability to send a reactivation request to Acto. Unfortunately, as this whole process took so long, Atco was unable to send a technician to my home until April 27. By that time I will have been without gas for 4 days. To put this in context, in our home we use gas for heating, hot water, and cooking. This is a HUGE inconvenience and Direct Energy isn”t willing to make it right. The fact is that Atco Gas has emergency technicians that could come any time of the day or night if they wanted to. However, neither company seems to care.

Enbridge is billing me, even though I moved from that location 8 months ago. I Rented an apartment in toronto, from 2008 until the end of may 2009. I Have being paying around 20 dollars a month on gas (Bachelor apartemnt), A month before I moved I called enbridge telling them that I wanted my Service cancelled by the end of may 2009, I gave them my new address Because they need it on file. I moved by the end of may from that Apartment. However, 8 months later, I received a letter from enbridge Stating that I owe them 239. Dollars. The first time I called, it was Three months ago, the enbridge customer service guy said it was a Mistake, (Clearly they had my new address on file and there was where they Sent the invoice) and he said he would cancel the account, however, he Was saying that the system would not let him close the account, he said he Would fix the problem. I call them a month later, and nothing had been Fixed. The woman on the phone said they will start and investigation. She Transferred my call to the enbridge investigation department, the woman That answered the phone had a very bad attitude, and made it sounds as if Everything was my fault. She said that she was going to freeze my Account. And that they need a proof that I moved by the end of may, (Right now I am working in alberta), which makes it difficult to deal with This matter. Now is may the 8 (Almost a year later), and this week I got a New invoice stating that I owe them 260 dollars. Credit score: the last Month I applied for two credit cards, they were denied. I have been always Paying my bills on time, however, for an enbridge negligence and Malpractice I have to pay the consequences. I am posting this message so You do not fall on this. It is a waste of time, money and it brings bad Consequences.

From my experience, I would not recommend that anybody signs up with the Direct Energy “Plumbing Protection” Plan. Read their agreements very carefully. They are setup to leave the individual with no rights. They insert wording in the contract to deny coverage if there is any doubt about anything. They have changed their original plan so that they no longer cover a whole lot. They used to cover faucets, now they don”t. They still cover pipes, but unless they freeze, they are not likely to break. Chances are you will never really need this plan. If you sign up for a 1 year term, at the end of that year, if you fail to give them notice within their 10 day window, they will automatically renew your contract locking you in for yet another year! But this is not what I”m complaining about. My complaint is about their coverage. The agreement states it covers “stop valves” within “the confines of the permanent foundation of your residence “. I”ve had nothing but problems since their “expert” plumber says that main shut-off by the meter is not a “stop valve”. I”ve done research and found definitions that say otherwise, looked through a number of plumbing websites that show otherwise, and I”ve spoken to three other plumbers that say the main shut off is a stop valve. I”ve called the company asking to escalate this but they only take the word of their own plumber. They could care less. They take your money and laugh all the way to the bank. This isn”t right and it needs to stop. One individual won”t do much against them, but many will. I”m going to contact the BBB and go to websites like these and let as many people know as I possibly can. You can email them to complain directly at “ExecutiveSupport at directenergy dot com”. Definitely think twice before signing up with them. My contract is coming up for renewal soon and I will be letting them know that I won”t be renewing or signing up with them for anything ever again. I”m considering buying my water heater outright as well. I want nothing to do with them!

Good afternoon Well I am very much concerned about the way both the companies mentioned above have been treating me over the last few months. Let me explain, in July 2008 Direct energy installed a central Air unit at my home & the amount of $99.76 was to be applied to my enbridge monthly bill. On November 25th 2008 I paid Direct energy in the amount of $4528.02 representing the full amount of the Central Air unit, about 2 weeks later I called to verify that this cheque had been received & no one new where the check was but to my surprise the cheque had been cashed. Apparently the cheque had been sent to the wrong department & the department of billing had not been notified. I can understand when errors occur but I can”t understand that when all this was found out & I again spoke with another agent at Direct Energy ( Josee [protected] ext 261) she stated that the matter had been rectified & that she assured me that the balance of the payment would be sent to Enbridge as credits towards my home heating bill. I said fine that sounds fair to me this was back on Dec 16, 2008 & this was all suppose to be done within 7 days of that conversation. Well Well this issue was never rectified & enbridge still haven”t received the balance from Direct Energy the weird thing is enbridge shows on there database that Direct energy have asked them not to send my account to the CREDIT BUREAU because they would be sending them the outstanding amount. This still hasn”t been & as of November 2008 Directenergy have still been charging me for the installment payments that have been paid for since Nov.2008. Everytime I speak with either party they tell me it is not there responsibilty & to call the other company. So as of today Direct energy owe me $462.23 + 99.76 Nov. + 99.76 Dec + all the accrued interest due to their negligence of rectifying this issue in a timely fashion. There is a total of $661.75 outstanding to this day this is without interest incurred so far & many many hours on the telephone with what I would call un qualified personel to take care of this matter. Today I contacted the MINISTRY OF GOVERNMENT SERVICES CONSUMER PROTECTION PLAN at [protected] & they advised me that this matter should have been resolved a long time ago, I have been very tolerant with this situation & am willing to give these companies a final chance to prove to me that customer service is there # 1 goal & that after they are overpaid that we are not just another file on the shelf. I am expecting a reply to this matter ASAP by Email or telephone today at the latest or I will pursue this matter through the MINISTRY OF GOVERNMENT SERVICES CONSUMER PROTECTION PLAN. Hoping for a prompt reply Robin Gauthier [protected] Home

Had a problem with my furnace, smoke coming out of the vents called Direct Energy in Orangeville Ont . The technician came out and immediately started going on about this could cost a few thousand to correct, he installed a new control board and said the furnace needs a cleaning, which I booked a cleaning that afternoon, He did mention that if the cleaning technician ( his partner in fraud ) finds the smallest problem he will shut the gas off. So, the cleaning technician comes in on friday morning, he wasnt at the furnace more then 5 minutes comes upstairs says I have bad news your heat exchanger is defective turns off the gas and gives me a card for the Direct Energy Salesman ( partner #2 ) he says my carbon dioxide measured 37 ppm . I call an independant heating and cooling technician he comes in Sat morning, the minute I mentioned that my gas was shut off by Direct Energy, he actually named off both technicians that have this scam going . He takes my furnace apart finds nothing wrong at all carbon dioxide measured 0 ppm at all vents in the house turns the gas back on, He takes a camera and shows me the heat exchanger no cracks or anything . The inspection from him costs me $50.00 on a plan that I have from CIBC on my mortgage protection plan . He said that that this team has replaced at least 100 furnaces in Orangeville Caledon Brampton that really did not have to be replaced, The warranty on a Keeprite ( builders furnace on new homes ) is 20 years on the part, not labour I am so pissed off canceling plans at Direct Energy first thing in the morning, also I am going to get a supervisor to explain why I need a furnace . disgusting behavior everyone gets a kick back from the installation of a Direct Energy Furnace Beware

Had direct energy protection plan in my old house, called them in April 2013 to cancel it as I purchased a brand new house in Milton. CSR asked and I explained her that brand new home already have warranty from builder, she understood and cancelled without explaining or telling me any charges expect for month of April which I paid right away. After 5 months I got a bill showing previous balance $ 333, called them and got transferred 4 times as nobody was able to explain me where the balance coming from. Called again next week and this time a supervisor told me “oh your protection plan was under a contract” which to me was BS as I never signed anything, it was all done over the phone so I requested transcript which I was told will be sent with in 2-3 weeks with complete account details – Never happened, got another letter instead threatening for collection so I called them again and was told there is no transcript was it was over 3 years ago so my question how I am under any contract, well you have to complete and pay for full 2013. BTW I never even used their protection plan or called any service, basically I paid for 2.5 years for nothing and now I am being harassed as my account is being sent to collection. What should I do? I called them multiple times and they are not going to do anything to help me, my account number is [protected] Please advice, Thanks

Has anybody else been experiencing this? Direct Energy does not take a meter reading, but makes an “estimate” and bills you on that “estimate”. After a period of about 6 months, it “corrects” the estimate with an actual reading, and invariably refunds you for its high estimates. This is a neat scam by Direct Energy to sock its customers for interest-free “loans” under the guise of making “estimated” payments. My bills are as high as $100 each month based on my actual reading versus their”estimate”. Shame on Direct Energy for bilking its customers to finance its operations interest-free. Any class-action lawyers out there?

Hello I have been with Direct Energy for a number of years (7+) and always been on the budget plan. My bills have always been 260-280.00. In April I received a bill for 449.00 which I asked to be explained to me. I was told it was the review of services used throughout the year and being on the budget plan you can pay more or less through the year. I then in July received a bill for 1000 then another for 1500. I find this to be highly inappropriate as I was told this was due to the budget plan. This is wrong and I would like this reviewed. No one cared to listen to me and they sent my bill directly to final billing. I”ve contacted CBC over this matter and will contact Global tonight. Thank you

Hello, Firstly, I would like to compliment the associate at Direct Energy for keeping her cool. Although I only ever slightly raised my voice, most defensive companies would have never lasted on the phone. Now for the story… Not unlike many of you, we decided as a young family to protect ourselves from the “corporate menaces” at Veridian from skyrocketing hydro rates. At the time, the 5 cents per kwh that we were paying netted us bills around $380 for the quarter. With their carefully laid out accounting, Direct Energy scared the hell out of us one unsuspecting spring afternoon at our door, and we fell prey to a “very conservative” rate of 9.65 cents; something that possibly even within 6 months would be matched by Veridian. Although I have requested my signatures for the documents (they called numerous times to get my business), I am in a battle with them that, whatever it takes, will be my relentless mission to win. We have paid at least $1600 more over the last two years than we would have, are locked in for 3 more years, and would have an early cancellation charge of $600. I just spoke to them today, and already I am writing this letter. They have no idea how many people are about to find out about their door-to-door scams, their “hands-off” approach once they”ve locked you in, and their BS responses. In fact, I was offered a lower rate of 8.49 cents just for calling today, as long as I lock in for another five years! My next stop; my lawyer. Next; every forum there is concerning consumer protection. Next; an email to everyone on my contact list. And so on… Please; don”t let yourselves get trapped. My bills have not been less than $600 since I so-called “switched”. Watch out for more correspondence; it certainly will be coming.

Hello, my name is henry chan. I choose direct energy in July, 2017 because of yr good service. But I feel very disappointed now because nobody tell us why we can”t get 10000 aeroplan miles after 2 statement we paid until now. I try to phone yr compay 3 weeks ago and the teller just said they have wrote down the note and notify another department phone us.But we didn”t get any answer after 3 weeks.Today we try to phone again and yr company”s guy said the same. We are waiting for yr aeroplan miles urgently because we want to use up aeroplan miles to book the airplane ticket for December We have book the coming back ticket already. We just thought directenergy will give this point after 2 statement we finished as soon as possible. I never think it will delay 1 months and maybe longer.Because I have paid the second Bill on sep/2017. To be honest, if we can”t get the provite answer and we will cancel the contract with direct energy. We wish we can get yr good services and wait for yr answer. Thank you. House previously owned by now deceased father is vacant so I requested heat be turned off/disconnected…Direct Energy advised they need to have me complete and sign their cancellation form. This was done on March 24/10 upon getting signatures from my 2 siblings who own the home with me now. March 25/10 I faxed completed form to Direct Energy and presumed my request was dealt with. Nothing further was received from them–no call, no letter, etc. On April 9/10 by sheer chance I called Direct Energy and was told “the request is unclear” so nothing was done…heat remains on in the vacant home (which is a tear-down and not liveable)…no explanation by alleged supervisor Don Carter in Edmonton as to why…he instructed me to refax cancellation request form – which I then did. I then was unable whatsoever to reach him again at his so-called extension 3519 to confirm receipt or anything else (tho my fax machine on both occasions said it was successfully sent)…contact/call centre is located in the Phillipines and when I phone there I get nothing but overkill profuse apologies from people trained to apologize for non-existing service. Meantime they continue to bill me for services not wanted and properly cancelled weeks ago…unfair trade practice to say the least and extremely poor customer service if it can even be called that.

I am a first time homebuyer. My experience with Direct Energy has tought me a valuable lesson these past weeks. I want to share what I have learned with others, especially new home buyers in the Ottawa region. This comment contains: – links to reliable sources – the actual laws that protect us customers – Direct Energy’s (DE) Early Exit Fees information – my own personnal experience and the lessons I learned. You can never be too informed when it comes to natural gas prices and the decisions you need to make. Here is a useful link about natural gas and the services available in the Ottawa region: Brochure from Ontario Energy Board with basic information we should have as a customer : www.oeb.gov.on.ca/OEB/_Documents/Consumer+Brochures/brochure_natgas_200802.pdf DIRECT ENERGY CAME TO MY DOOR A sales representative from Direct Energy came to my door to sign us up for our natural gas account. I remembered seeing the Direct Energy sticker on our hot water tank. I also remembered seeing the Embridge sticker on our furnace. This indicated to me that the company was trust worthy and that I needed their service to continue using my hot water tank. The sales representative explained the protection plans for natural gas and said that I needed to contact Enbridge to make sure that my account was set up. What then is the relation between Enbridge and DE? His answer wasn’t clear, but I understood that they somwhow worked together. He then took out a bill sample that had the Enbridge logo on it. I assumed that both companies worked together. He also told me, after I asked, that they were the only company from which we could buy natural gas. There, I had it : they were my only option, their sticker was on our hot water tank. I assumed it was the right choice. It was not. DE, NOT MY ONLY OPTION? I called Enbridge the next day to make sure that my account had been set up. I mentionned the Direct Energy salesperson and wanted to confirm with Enbridge the relationship between them and Direct Energy. That’s when I learned that I could have bought my gas from Enbridge. I felt very angry that I was lied to. A couple of days later, a sales rep. from another energy company (I forget the name) came to my door. They were offering the same service as Direct Energy. I did not hesitate to tell him that I had signed with Direct Energy and was lied to. This guy then took out the Direct Energy booklet I had received, with the Terms and conditions, and showed me the passage about Early Exit Fees. EARLY EXIT FEES The Terms and Conditions state that if you terminate a contract with DE before your time is up, you will be charged 200$ a month (plus other expenses) for the duration of that period. It also states that if you move outside Ontario or to an area where Direct Energy cannot service you, that you will be charged Early Exit Fees. I called Direct Energy this week and the calling agent told me something completely different from what I read in the Terms and Conditions. She said that if you move outside the province, you need to provide DE with proof that you are moving at least 30 days before your moving date. They will cancel your contract without charging you any fees. If you are moving into an area where natural gas is not available (no gas lines), you need to notify them at least 30 days prior to your moving date and your contract will be cancelled without fees. The salesperson that came to my door did not go into these details, he only mentionned that if I moved in Ontario, my account would be switched to my new address, and that if I moved outside the province, my contract would be terminated. He didn’t mention any early exit fees. And I did not think to ask about them either. I still do not know if I would be charged Early Exit Fees if I decided to move to another province or to a place where there is no service. It’s the call center’s representative’s words againt the Terms and Conditions. I think the Terms and Conditions hold up better in court… so beware. FALSE INFORMATION : A DE PLAN THAT DOES NOT EXIST I wanted more information. I felt lied to. I had signed a contract too fast, thinking it was my only option. I then conducted a research, comparing what Direct Energy had to offer me and what Enbridge could offer. I was deceived once again. The sales rep. from DE had told me that they would call me back within the month to confirm which plan we wanted fo our natural gas : a fixed plan with a fixed rate or a variable plan with variable rates. When I called Direct Energy to inquire about their varable plan, I was told that no such plan existed. They had stopped offering variable plans in 2005. This took me by surprised, seeing as they had a page on variable plans on their website: www.directenergy.com/EN/Ontario/RES/Pages/GAS/VariableRateFAQs.aspx First I was actually told by a call rep. at DE that the variable plan was only available through an online offer, and that it was new. I decided to call back to talk to another representative who was very helpful. She even talked to her supervisor to make sure she was giving me the right information. The variable plans only exist for electricity, not for natural gas. To top that off, she could see the rate I was given on my contract, 43.5 cents per cubic meter. She dais that I should have been offered a rate of 36.9 cents per cubic meter, because I am a new customer. She offered to cancel the existing contract because I had been given false information and because my rate was too high. She said that she could sign me up for the new rate, in a new contract. I said I would think about it and call them back if I was interested. CANCELLING A CONTRACT : OUR RIGHTS AS CUSTOMERS #1. A contract (some exceptions, see below) is not active unless you reaffirm it. A representative from the company will call you back to reaffirm. If you do not reaffirm, your contract will not be activated. Here is the law (Ontario Energy Board Act 1998, Section 88.9): Once you sign a contract for the purchase of natural gas or electricity, as a general rule it will not remain in effect unless you confirm that you wish to accept the contract. This process is called “contract reaffirmation”, and it applies in all but a few circumstances (see “When Reaffirmation Is Not Required”, below). The rules that apply to contract reaffirmation are as follows: 1. Starting on the 10th day after you have received a written copy of the contract, the marketer or retailer is permitted to contact you to ask you to reaffirm your acceptance of the contract. 2. At that point you may choose to reaffirm your acceptance of the contract, or you may choose not to do so. If you notify the marketer or retailer that you do not wish to reaffirm the contract, you cannot be required to pay any cancellation fees or penalties. 3. If you do not reaffirm the contract by the 61st day after you received a written copy, the contract will no longer be in effect as of that date. Again, you will then have no obligations under the contract as of that date, and you cannot be required to pay any cancellation fees or penalties. 4. If you reaffirm the contract and then decide at a later date to cancel it, you may have to pay a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee or the method by which it will be calculated must be stated in your contract. Typically, the marketer or retailer will phone you to ask you to reaffirm your acceptance of the contract. If you reaffirm by phone, the marketer or retailer must record the phone call, and the recording must be given to you if you request it. You also have the option of reaffirming or refusing to reaffirm by giving written notice to the marketer or retailer. Always ask for a reference number when you cancel a contract on the phone. Summary of law : www.oeb.gov.on.ca/OEB/For+Consumers/Your+Energy+Options/Contracts+-+Consumer+Protection+Rules Actual law : www.search.e-laws.gov.on.ca/en/isysquery/db272a39-ed3a-4f60-89ec-b96d800fbcb3/3/frame/?search=browseStatutes&context= #2. Send a registered letter or a fax to the company, stating that you want to cancel all existing contracts with them. This tip was given to me by a customer rep. at the Ontario Energy Board and by a customer rep. at Enbridge. Here is the law (Consumer Protection Act 2002), taken from the DE Terms and conditions: If this Agreement was entered in person at a place other than our place of business, a trade show or an exhibition, the following excerpt from the Consumer Protection Act 2002 applies: “You may cancel this agreement at any time during the period that ends 10 days after the day you received a written copy of the agreement. You do not need to give the supplier a reason for cancelling during this 10-day period.” HOW I CANCELLED MY CONTRACT (10 DAY COOLING OFF PERIOD) I cancelled over the phone with DE, wrote down the reference number. I also filed a complaint against the sales rep. that came to my door for giving me the wrong rate and the wrong information. I also wrote a letter, in order to make sure that my cacelation would be treated. I added the reference number to the letter as well. Isent it by fax to 2 different numbrs given to me by 2 different rep. at DE. One of the numbers was incorrect, as I received a call the next day from an individual who had received my fax at his private residence. Luckily, I could rely on the other number to be correct. I also took no chance and sent an email to cancel.[protected]@DirectEnergy.com. I got an automatic response saying that it had been received. UNDERSTANDING YOUR ENBRIDGE BILL portal-plumprod.cgc.enbridge.com/portal/server.pt?open=512&objID=243&PageID=0&cached=true&mode=2&userID=2 THE BOTTOM LINE We as customers need to be more informed. Please keep in mind: Enbridge is the utility. The bring the gas to your house. You will be billed by Enbridge (or your local utility) no matter who you decide to buy gas from. Direct Energy is a marketer. They sell you gas. Enbridge will bill you on behalf of Direct Energy for the natural gas. Know your rights as customers. If you have signed a contract and want to get out of it, send a letter of cancellation request within your 10-day coolling off period. Do not reaffirm your contract when the marketer (DE) calls you, if you do not want to contiue with them. I hope my experience and my little investigation helps at least one person out there. We have to be vigilant and aware of these things. We have to be responsible consumers. I think I’m one step closer to it now.

I am a former direct energy rep. I used to work for a company called Trust Energy selling Direct Energy Contracts in Calgary . I was told by the trainer and supervisor, Robin and Matt to hide the truth from the customers . I was asked to to fake the electricity and gas price to elderly people and newly landed immigrants as they are not aware of the energy market . The price is not fixed and it will go up in two months. They lock you in a contract and you if you wish to opt out later it’s costs to you $4000 to get out of the contract and eventually messing up your credit.I quit the job because I refused to lie to the customers anymore. Avoid this company like plague. They lock you on a contract at a higher price. They provide you free electricity and gas for two months and then triple the price for the next five years. Wish I never worked here as this company has a bad name and the trainers and supervisors asked me to lie and hide the truth.

I am at my wits end. I have not received a bill from Direct Energy in 4 months, I have called, I have emailed, I have complained (to the PUC). I was told it was an internal problem, yet it seems after doing a little research that I am the only one with this problem, and I have been told also that my bill has not been generated. This has happened to me once before about four years ago, when DE didn”t read my meter for almost 8 months. I was contacted by a rep about a month ago and she assured me that I would receive my bill within a matter of days. That never happened. I am on a limited income, so aside from the fact that they will bill me three times a month, I will have to go without food and medicine again just like the last time this happened. It is also weird that my five year contract is coming due. If I had known that DE had been sued for deceptive practices, I would never have signed with them. Your better off with TXU and I don”t like them either.

I am moving this Thursday due to a change in owners. Direct Energy is refusing to allow me to cancell services since I am under contract and do not have a new address in their service area. I keep calling in and everyone keeps teling me that without and address in their service area I cannot stop services and must continue paying the bills at this address. They have issued a stop order on my account telling me I cannot stop servcies until I provide a new address in their area to continue the contract. I was forced to file bankruptcy last month when identity theft destroyed my name. They have refused to even ackowledge this and document received documentation or take the info down. They have made it clear until the court sanctions them they do not care. STAY AWAY FROM DIRECT ENERGY!!! They are the worst company ever.

I am venkatesh. Me and my wife moved to pa from ct 1.3yrs ago. After a month of moving, a sales man from direct energy came to our house when I wasnt even there at home. They said to my wife, like they spoke to my friends in next apartments. They just signed for this and you can also sign for this wonderful service, where you can pay very less (Aprox $40 difference) from what you are paying. My wife initially said I am not at home please come back later. But that sales guy didnt go and started talking about your friends from nearby apartments already signed for this and getting this advantage. Please dont miss this opportunity. And finally they confused her to make her sign an agreement. And it seems they called a number and asked her to say ‘ok’ for everything the person in other side ask. She is new to us and she didnt understand what exactly they spoke. After that sales man went, we received 2 nest devices for adjusting temperature. I called them immediately and asked, we are not going to use this direct energy. Please take it from us. They said, it is just a service we are offering, since you accepted direct energy. Its completely free of cost. Then after multiple calls I left arguing with those guys. After 1.2yrs we moved to some other community due to project change, where they dont have peco and direct energy services. Immediately in a month, we received a mail from collection department, such as I need to pay $400 for the 2 devices, since I broke the contract of 2 yrs. And I am getting continuous calls from these collection agency, stating you need to pay $400 for 2 devices, since there is a 3yr agreement I signed and I disconnected in the middle. This is totally ridiculous and direct energy is money minded scam. I see difference in communication between them. Some stating 2 yrs agreement and in call, they are saying 3 yrs agreement. I am definitely going to raise it to next level. This is the starting step.

I bought a house and inherited a hot water heater from Direct Energy (rental) We started experiencing the pilot light going out on a few occasions in a period of a week and we called for a technician to come out. He confirmed that the pilot light was going out and also the unit was leaking. He proceeded to tell us that we needed a new one and that it would be installed on the Saturday. There was no mention that we would be charged as this was a rental. We had the unit replaced and to our surprise the installer told us we could be charged and I told him that I refused to pay as it leaking and the pilot light was going out. He noted this on the work order that client refuses to pay any charges related to installing the unit. I got a bill from Direct Energy a few months later stating that I owed them money…I called them and they told me that it was a loan that I took out, replied NOPE didn”t happen, they finally told me that it was a charge for turning the hot water heater … HELLO IT WAS REPLACED… The whole idea of renting the unit is that I do not have to worry about and costs. I have been getting calls daily and I have tried to resolve this every time I called, but with NO LUCK. I finally call the last time on Friday May 15th and asked to talk with supervisor. There was no supervisor available at that time I was told, but they would get back to me within 12 – 48 hours and I”m still waiting. I”m still getting daily calls.

I called Direct Energy to find out why my bill was suddenly very high. They outsource their customer service to India. I got this Indian woman who declared she had to have my husbands social security number to look at my account. I told her, you have my address, phone, email, account number and password to my account number (not sure why she needed that), and I would not give her my husbands social. She insisted she needed it. I asked to speak to her manager and she told me as soon as I gave up the social I could????!!! Their website never displays the correct bill so there was no way at this point to find out how much my bill really was. I did not give up the social and I ended up paying my bill the same as the month before. Now I have switched providers and Direct Energy will not give me an itemized statement from the last bill. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They have very shady practices and overcharge every chance they get. I know, I will never find out about that bill. But I also know the customer service people in INDIA do not need my husbands social to hack his id. USE ANY COMPANY BUT THIS ONE!!

I called to get my services disconnected. The first time I tried the line went dead. The. Tried again and got a customer service rep by the name of REN. We got through what we had set out to do. Then at the end of the conversation after our goodbyes…she thought I hung up. That”s when we heard “the growl” and she said something in another language . I said hello ? And once she real I realized I was still on the phone she softened her voice again and asked me to hang up the phone. I asked for her name and number and she said all she could provide me with was her name.

I don”t understand why our kwh usage went from 658 in Oct.-Nov. to 718Nov.-Dec. and then jumped to 1093 kwh in Dec. Jan. Nothing has changed in our home with regards to electric usage, there are still only 2 people living here, I have talked to some of my neighbours who say their bills increased as well but nothing near as high as ours, our last bill dated Dec.19-Dec. 31 @ 0.133530 and Dec. 31-Jan.22 @0.151940…with a total of 1093 kwh ( which I think is totally wrong ) our cost of electricity was $158.96 but with all of the other charges it was $312.74, it does not make sense to us and like a lot of your customers we will be switching, this is a total rip off…I look forward to a comment one way or another from you…I think.

I had a 5 year gas contract with Direct Energy which got completed in Aug 2009. I never consented to renew the contract with Direct Energy. Now I have received a bill with Direct Energy rate of 3 times the market rate for the gas. When I called Direct Energy they advised me that they automatically renewed the contract for 1 year at a predetermined high rate. I requested them to cancel the contract immediately, to which I was told that I will still be billed for next 2 billing cycle at such a astronomical rate. By doing a search on internet I noticed that I am not alone in getting cheated like this. Is there any consumer protection against such practices?

I had a contract with Direct Energy Essential Sevices that expired June 30. Direct Energy Regulated Services sent me a bill for June 28/29 saying that they automatically assumed my service since my contract expired. I had switched to anoter supplier that begat July 1. I would bet that they do this to many unsuspecting cusomers just to obtain extra charges. This is outright fraud. They say that they are two different companies but I see a direct link.

I had yet another door to door sales man come to my home trying to rook me into switching to Direct Energy. This time he came to my home at 9:00pm. That”s right – night time. I told him to go away. Then I E-mailed a complaint to Direct Energy about the constant Harassment. The response I just recived said – we don”t have door to door salesmen? Excuse me? I am going to call and talk to a human being – this should be a great stress reliever. I also have been a victum of the “Direct Energy Contract Scam.” 4 years ago I had to pay $3000.00 to Stop paying 11.99/kwhr. The rest of the world was paying 7/kwhr. I wish I had a lawyer back then.
