Dr. Emmanuel Lambrakis was arrested after he wrote thousands of medically unnecessary prescriptions for oxycodone. The 69 year old state licensed doctor was responsible for the prescription of nearly 2.4 million pills in the span of five years. He will be presented before James L. Cott, U.S. Magistrate Judge later today.
Oxycodone is a narcotic, highly addictive opioid that is commonly used to help in cases of chronic and severe pain conditions. They are in extremely high demand and sell for a lot of cash on the streets. Emmanuel Lambrakis operated two clinics in Queens, New York from January 2011 to December 2016. He wrote thousands of prescriptions for the drug after receiving cash payment for the same. He usually charged about $150 for “patient visits”. He saw many patients at the same time, in the same exam room. He didn’t talk to them much, performed the most basic of exams and then hand them the prescription for large quantities of oxycodone. He wrote approximately 17,000 such prescriptions. The 2.4 million pills he prescribed have a street value of about $48 million. It is estimated that he collected a little over $2.5 million in fees for his illegal prescriptions.
