Dr. Joseph Mixon incorrectly diagnosed three patients in the year 2015.
Mixon misdiagnosed one of those patients as “stable” in the result of which it turned out to be sepsis, an emergency condition that can cause death. Because he admitted the facts in the order, we were surprised at his reaction, when we asked him about the sepsis and other issues but not his refusal to talk.
Mixon’s license to practice medical is now on probation, especially after a drug screen that turned up positive the same day, for controlled substances as well as alcohol. As per the probation rules, he is required to stay drug free all throughout. A hospital spokesperson tells us he continues to practice at Methodist as a member of the medical staff but not an employee.
Mixon has been charged against intoxication or personal misuse of any drugs or the use of intoxicating liquors, narcotics, or controlled substances, or controlled analogues or other drugs or stimulants in such a manner that has adversely affected the person’s ability to practice medicine. Engaging in such practice of medicine, mentally or physically unable to safely do so; unprofessional, dishonorable or unethical conduct is strictly against the rules.
