Dr. Melanie M. Canon has been accused of writing oxycodone prescriptions for patients but never giving to them to the patients after obtaining the drugs from a pharmacy. The 49 year old Weston resident was arrested in Londonderry, according to Vermont State Police, on 8 counts of prescription fraud.
She falsely prescribed more than 1,200 Percocet tablets for her patients so she could use them herself. She conducted home visits and saw patients outside of her normal practice. She didn’t keep charts or notes for visits from July 2015 to March 2016, according to the police. This was when she prescribed oxycodone for 2 patients without them even knowing. She would then retrieve the drugs from a pharmacy.
Police said it was uncommon for doctors to retrieve and deliver medication to patients’ homes. She could face additional charges as well. She submitted a cessation of her license to practice medicine on the 6th of April. This cessation will be valid in the state of Vermont. She’s due in Windham Superior Court on June 14th.
