Southern Ocean Pediatrics and Family Medicine Office of Dr. Michael Bleiman has been in the news recently for the wrong reasons. The New Jersey Department of Health found that vaccines for mumps, chickenpox, rota virus, HIB, polio, HPV, measles, rubella, hepatitis A and B, DTaP/Tdap, pneumococcal and meningococcal were not properly refrigerated. More than 900 children may not have received proper vaccination.
Families who participated in the Vaccines for Children program, who have Medicaid are affected by this. The program is a state operated, federally funded one that was in place from November 2014 to July 2016. These vaccinations are given to children from birth till they hit puberty, and this might mean that affected children have to get shots all over again.
Doctors will now check to see if there are antibodies in the blood of the children to see if they have the vaccine in their systems. The health department is now working on contacting families whose children were vaccinated at the Southern Ocean Pediatrics and Family Medicine in Manahawkin.
Meg Baker, mother of two young boys said that she wasn’t comfortable with the office anymore and was extremely concerned about her children’s health after she found out about the issues at Dr. Bleiman’s office.
