Dr. Michael started his career as a prison doctor after battling for several years for license problem, he was investigated for buying illegal drugs.
Mitcheff did admit to the fact that he had bottles of cough syrup which contained hydrocodone illegally and he got them delivered to his Osceola home for nearly three years.
Mitcheff’s license was suspended for almost 90 days after these charges. He was caught writing prescriptions in the names of other people, and buying drugs from local pharmacies. According to medical licensing board documents, Mitcheff admitted that he picked up 57 bottles of a drug that contained hydrocodone.
Recently records say that Mitcheff has been sober for more than a year now, he has passed more than a 100 drug tests and has a job pending at the Indiana prison system. The doctor’s probationary status was withdrawn in 2004, as per the records.
“It was a good transition back” to medicine, he said, “and it worked out well. (Addiction) has given me the background to better understand the patient in the population I’m dealing with as well.”
The doctor was also involved in a $1 million medical malpractice payout causing the death of one of his family practice patients. Mitcheff said the doctor is enrolled in a treatment plan, including weekly urine tests and other monitoring.
