I locked into a 8 cent per kwh for 6 months with Fairpoint Energy. Nice discount while it lasted. The low rate even continued for an additional 2 months. Fairpoint later offered me a one year for 12.5 cents per kwh. I didn’t go for it because that rate was higher than the rate from my power company PSNH. I stayed with Fairpoint because I thought their rate would stay competitive. I was WRONG. After 8 months of a good rate of 8 cents, it jumped to 13.9 cents. Fairpoint said I was on a variable rate but I could lock in for 6 months at about 13 cents. My PSNH rate was just over 9 cents so why would I lock in for 13 cents? I switched back to PSNH but had to wait for an additional billing cycle before the switch would take effect. My new and last bill with Fairpoint had the power rate jumped to 18.9 cents per kwh. In 2 months I virtually lost most of the savings they teased my with. I will never do business with Fairpoint Energy EVER AGAIN! My PSNH rate will be about 9.8 cents and is expected to drop in the near future. Beware of Fairpoint’s teaser rate. They will zap you later.
