1/10/17 contacted ferrellgas through online form requesting someone come out and check tank because it was showing low status and had just filled in november and wanted it checked out. They called and would not send someone to check until I paid $49 rental fee first. 1/11/17 called ferrellgas local office and spoke with michelle, as I was concerned that my tank usage was extremely high. I had it filled in november and the tank was already at 40% and it typically takes me 12 months to use a full tank. I was treated very poorly by the woman on the phone and she told me that I must have other appliances pulling on the propane and that there was no way that there could be something wrong with the tank. I told her that the high usage only happened after the fill up and she said she could send someone out but she would have to charge me because there was nothing wrong with the tank (She was certain). 1/13/17 paid my own contractor $90.00 to come out and look at tank who confirmed there was a large leak at the tank. I immediately called ferrellgas who dispatched a driver from munds park, az. I received a call from jacob the driver who said his boss was on his way. I was instructed to wait outside. I waited 3 hours and no one showed up. I called jacob and he said I did not have to wait so I left and went to work. When I arrived home on the 14th from work, no one had showed up, my tank was now down to 30%. 1/15/17 I called the emergency dispatch line once again and the agent told me that no one had been dispatched to the service call on friday the 13th so I sat and waited for nothing. She put in another service call. I received a call from the corporate office stating that someone would come out on monday and I asked what was I supposed to do in the mean time. He said he did not know. I am still waiting. I paid $450.00 for my tank to be filled by ferrellgas along with the $90 for my contractor to come out both of which I expect to be reimbursed for. I have wasted so much time and have been treated horribly. Thank god this leak was not in my house because I could be dead by now with their lack of response.

Arkansas Attorney General Jusing McDaniels is filing suit against Ferrellgas under deceptive trade practices. Ferrellgas is doing the same thing in Michigan to customers that they did to customers in Arkansas that prompted the suit. I received AN INVOICE from FERRELLGAS for $150.00 for NOT USING ANY of their propane during the [protected] heating season!!! I never agreed to their 23 page “master agreement” that they claimed to have sent me that I never received. Now, evidently, they can change exuberant fees and if you are a customer, you have to abide by their unilateral decisions. Anyone in Michigan who has been cheated by Ferrellgas needs to contact the Federal Trade Commission and the Michigan Attorney Generals office. Several customers across Michigan already has. I am awaiting to see what AG Mike Coxx will do with our complaints against FERRELLGAS. If you want to know what I am dealing with, do a google search for “Arkansas Attorney General files suit against Ferrellgas”. It has happened not just in Arkansas and Michigan, but other states as well.

Below, the text of the complaint I sent to Ferrellgas via their website. Planning to call the corporate headquarters and write a physical letter as well. This is totally unacceptable… ” Greetings, I am a new Ferrellgas customer, and I am very dissatisfied. On January 28, I was charged $231.39 for my deposit and first fill. This charge was UNAUTHORIZED. The previous day (1/27), I spoke with a representative to set up my account. There was some confusion over the rate. My landlord said not to pay anything over $2.14 a gallon, since it was a takeover from his account. The Ferrellgas representative I spoke with quoted me at $2.57 a gallon. She told me that to figure out the rate issue, I would need to speak with her supervisor Bob, who was not in the office at the time. I was assured Bob would call me first ting Monday morning to sort things out, and that my credit card would NOT be charged until the issue was resolved. But it was. For the last month, I have been trying every week to reach this elusive Bob character, who is evidently the manager of four Ferrellgas offices in the Northern California region (I live in Lake County)… and I”ve been repeatedly leaving him messages and talking with associate after associate about my problem and how to resolve it. The customer service representatives are all sweet young girls, and I don”t blame them a bit. They”ve always just told me “you have to speak with Bob…” — but Bob is never around and hasn”t returned a single phone call. I”ve left him five or six messages by now. Now my propane is starting to run low… but I am determined to resolve this issue first. I also have an outstanding $14.09 on my account right now that I am withholding until this issue is taken care of. I”ll continue to try calling Bob — but I sure would appreciate some help at the national level, if possible. I don”t even know if there are any other outfits in the area who can sell me propane, or if this company has a monopoly… I”ve read a number of negative reviews of Ferrellgas online, and I am not surprised one bit. But I would really like to be the exception to this rule. I hope to be a loyal and satisfied customer — but first, I need to be treated like a valued customer. Please help me get in touch with someone who has some decision-making power. This is simply unacceptable. Thank you very much for your time and your help. I wish you all the best. Peace, “

Ever since we made a new account with this company we would have to call to get our gas tank filled, which was okay with us. The problems began shortly after during the summer of 2004 when we called up and did not come for 2 or 3 weeks until we called again. So at least twice a year we have to boil water to take showers because we would call, the gas runs out and they won’t come. A week ago, after waiting 3 weeks for delivery, a new driver came and told us that we need our tank moved away from the door and the AC machine and that they wouldn’t fill the gas after it’s moved. The was already spent, so I called the local office and the latest the could’ve come to move the tank was today Wednesday (about 5 days after they driver came). I called this past Monday to confirm that they were coming, you never know with these people, and they said they were going to. I called today to see if they were still coming and and the lady said the truck broke down just a few minutes before. That’s okay she said she would have to re-schedule for tomorrow, and i asked if our house will be a priority because it was schedule since last week but she didn’t understand my question. I asked if she understood what I was trying to tell her and she said that she did, she said that I demanding for someone to take any truck and come over and move the tank. They said that it’s a code in NJ that you can’t have the gas tank close to the AC so all of these years drivers that are apparently trained put our house at risk. is that negligence? What was irritating is that she stands behind such unreliable company, she would be the one who would have to shower with pots and cans she would understand our frustration.

Every time I ordered propane in 2018 I was charged a tank rental fee for $60. The propane company charge was supposed to be a once a year rental fee of $60. I was charged January 16, 2018 and paid it by a web pay through my bank (Plumas Bank) and it cleared 1-17-2018. Statement from FerrellGas #[protected]. The second time I was charged was on 6/21/2018 $60. and that was paid for on 7/9/2018 and cleared my bank on 7/10/2018. FerrellGas statement # [protected]. The third time they were charging me for this tank rental fee was on 11/21/2018 for another $60. This last payment I only paid $5. because I switched to a new company on 12/11/2018 for which I divided the $60 by 12 months and that cleared my bank on 12/18/2018. All of these tank fees are shown on my statements and each of the statement # above along with my propane show they were paid. I have contacted the company 3 times with no results of them paying me back $65. Any help from you would be appreciated. Lori Capistrand [protected]@yahoo.com

Ferrellgas has charged me a fee for NOT using a service. I pay an annual rental fee for their propane tank, and they have the arrogance to charge a fee for not filling the tank every year. I do not have that in writing on the agreement I signed with Ferrellgas, and they cannot tell me when the charge started to be in effect. From my understanding of Interstate Commerce law (Ferrellgas is based in Kansas I believe), a person cannot be charged if no goods or services are exchanged. This is quite different than an annual credit card usage fee, the service I am getting is the right to use the card if I wish, and I am paying for the line of credit. In this case, I already pay for the “priviledge” of having this company provide me with propane, by paying the rental fee, and then I pay for the gas I consume in addition to the rental fee. But, in this case, no goods or services are being exchanged, so how is the fee lawful? Anyway, I was able to find a company in Sarasota that does not charge a “low usage” fee (Detweiler”s Propane), and hopefully others can find local providers that are not into illegal gouging.

Had an old tank on house that sat years foreclosed that we bought through an old company. We were told tank was ours but no proof of it, called all local propane companies to verify and none of them had any records of it. Called farrellass to fill it since they were closest, keep in mind we called them to and that they to had no record of tank. When they filled it told us it was there tank and the guy wrote down all the info on it. I had couple other companies fill it cause half the price. Ten months later farrellass sends us a bill for two months of tank rental plus a late fee, we never had any bill previously and called to complain. Lady on phone couldn”t give us a straight answer as to why with no proof they claim to own our tank and sporadically decided to bill us rent for two months when we haven”t went through them for ten! Wtf!

How is it when i prebuy gas for the year with you have to do to lock in a rate, and yo u buy x amount of fuel say 1200 dollars and you only use 1100 dollars that they can legally keep your your hundred dollars and you loose it that is stealing that money should be refunded to you or should be applied to to the following year.

I am a loyal 7-year customer of FerrellGas, and have a contract with them. I called over a week ago for LP delivery to my home, and was told it would be delivered before Wednesday. (Christmas) On Tuesday (Christmas Eve) I called to confirm delivery because it had been a week. I was concerned because I needed to leave town. I was told that delivery would occur that day !! I called back at 1:30 because I still had not received delivery. I was told delivery would not occur. I called 2 more times and at 2:45 I was told that delivery would occur late in the day, perhaps as late as 6:00 pm. My trip out of town for Christmas was delayed, and I HAD to leave. When I returned Christmas night I discovered that LP was never delivered !!! It is now Thursday a.m. and I am about out of LP. My heat is turned way down to conserve. Temperatures outside are in the teens, and my Christmas has been ruined. What rights do I have? Who can help? What laws govern an LP company that refuses to deliver ??
FerrellGas Reviews & Complaints
I call to schedule a delivery because my tank was extremely low( gage not showing any propane) I was out of town for an extended period of time. So I scheduled for delivery, was told there is no way to get next day delivery and soonest would be 2 days. However they have policy if your tank runs empty you must pay a 150 dollar fee to refill it plus the cost of your gas. Now for my issue, I come home from town around 1200 today to find a Ferrell gas truck delivering across the street, Try to flag him down and he ignores me. Then when I call in to the company again and explained he is right across the street they tell me he can deliver to me because I”m not on the schedule, even though the driver is right across the street literally 150 yards from my tank. I don”t understand how a company can make you wait then when you run out due to their lack of concern for delivery, then have the right to charge an additional fee to fill when they are the reason it ran out. I understand me being out of town is not their fault. but you would think this company being as big as it is, would have an “emergency ” delivery option. and not try to rob their customers. I have been with them for over 2 yrs, yet after today I will take my business else where, even if it cost me more money !

I could write a book on how incompetent this comany is. My first bad experience with them was finding their driver on the side of the road claiming to have a heart attack. In fact he was drunk and had to leave the truck on the side of the road and be driven home. I will make a long story short. They let me run out of gas in the middle of winter when I was supposed to have regular deliveries. They did not service their rental tank. The regulator on their rental tank was bad and caused my furnace to explode causing bodily injury. Then they tried to charge me for the service call to change their non working regulator. I returned their rental tank about 5 years ago and they are still sending me a yearly bill for rent. Even more bizzare is the fact that they show I paid the rental last year and gave me a credit for it. I did not have the tank and can confirm that I have been doing business with a different local company since they picked up their tank. My elderly neighbor”s rental tank from them was leaking causing her great expense, danger, and the whole area smelled. They did nothing and her son had to step in and stop doing business with them. It is no longer frustrating it is just comical.

I did not have a choice when I bought my house 8 years ago as to who supplied my propane. But from the start it”s been a horrible experience dealing with Ferrellgas, several missed deliveries resulting in no gas in the lowest temperatures of Winter. After finding out that their installed regulator caused a large amount of soot build-up in my furnace, causing it to shut down and being told it will take $1600 to get it running again, I was told though it “might be” the regulator”s not sending enough pressure to the furnace, but since they only give a year”s warranty on a regulator, they don”t intend to help with getting my furnace back up and running and on top of which their Operations Manager, Chris (NJ & PA) hung up on me, telling me that he thought it was a maintenance issue, not their regulator, (he was supposed to stop by but didn”t bother), which was not the opinion of the professional technician who attempted to fix the furnace. Propane is supposed to burn clean, you”d never know it from looking at my furnace. So once again, Ferrellgas does not give a damn about their customer, I”m without heat, but oh, they are willing to replace the regulator and ONLY charge me $100. How I get the furnace running again, they don”t care. This is one company, I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND

I have been a loyal customer for over 8 years. This fall I called Ferrell to order propane. I was renting a tank from them. The rep stated the charge for my account was $4.95 per gallon. I was speechless. I just recommended a friend to Ferrell a month before and her price was around $2.00 per gallon. The rep said that was the price she was told to state on my account. I told her I would not be buying propane from them for that price. She proceeded to be very nasty with me and inform me that no one else could fill their rental tanks and I really didn’t have a choice. I told her she could come pick up her tank and I would have someone else deliver another one. (Which I was able to do quickly and easily, at a lower rate with a nicer company) When the driver came to pick up our Ferrellgas owned tank we learned the motivation behind the price increase and the rude behavior. We were told they wanted us to use a different company because we are a low consumption customer and they intentionally ran us off as a business strategy. So if you are a Ferrell customer… conserve energy and use less propane… be prepared to be treated rudely and receive $199.00 low usage bill… which they will wave once you agree to have them pick up your tank .. on which… you have already paid the yearly rental. Ferrellgas apparently sees every tank that is being rented to a long term customer with lower usage averages without a “Keep Full” contract as a wasted asset. That same tank can be rented to a new customer who is required to sign a “Keep Full” or other questionable contract without the full knowledge of the “Mysterious Business Practices” of Ferrellgas. BEWARE and READ EVERY WORD!

I have tried to be patient with this company but, they have chosen to continually fail at performing the only duties they have. Fill my Tanks. I have two tanks on my property. 5 times…5 times they have filed to fill my tanks. I am even on a must keep full account. Which means they look at my tanks every other week to make sure they stay above 50%. 5 times they have failed to accomplish this. And the last time, I have left messages, sent emails and even tried messaging them on Facebook. No responses. Its pretty pathetic. I would not recommend this company. They are cheaper than most but its obvious they don”t put a lot of attention into customer service. I am planning on changing companies as well.

I ordered propane on 07/20/16, and asked them to fill the tanks. I use the propane for my swimming pool and hot tub. They came out on 07/27/16 and filled the tanks. I was not home, and the tanks were empty, so after filling the tanks, they shut off the propane, leaving a note that I should call them to have it turned back on. The note said it was protocol to turn the tanks off when they were found empty, and that it is extremely dangerous for me to turn them on, myself. I could not understand why they had not simply called me and asked for my permission to turn the propane on, when they filled the tanks, but I called them on 07/28/17, and asked for someone to come out and turn the propane on. I was told that the technician had done a line check, and there were no leaks, so they were not certain why he had turned the propane off. She said they would have to speak with him before they could turn it back on, since he had left them incomplete notes. She said she would call right back; she never did. I called again on 07/29/17, and was told that they had scheduled for someone to come out on 08/02/16. I asked why nobody had called me back the day before; she didn”t know. I asked why the propane had been turned off; she didn”t know. I asked why I had to wait another week for them to fix their mistake; she didn”t know. I asked for someone to come out earlier; she said it was not possible. I asked why they seemed to think it was ok to take my money and leave me with a product that I am unable to use; she didn”t know. I asked to speak with a supervisor; she said she would have him call, but I have not heard from anyone. I will never order from this company again.

I reported a propane gas leak at my home at 7:08 in the morning on Tuesday, October 16. It took them over 2 hours to show up. Here”s a short version of what happened. I was leaving the house at 7 am and was overwhelmed with the smell of propane when I walked out my front door. I immediately came back inside to get the phone and tell my husband to get dressed as I was certain we would have to evacuate. I called Ferrellgas and was told to close the doors and windows and stay inside, that a driver would be there. I asked how long, she said it would be this morning, before noon. I was quite taken aback by that timeline, but did as I was told and brought my dogs up to the back deck as well. While waiting for them to arrive, I kept going out to check on my dogs and the smell was getting less and less. An hour after my report to them, I called back to ask how much longer. She assured me someone would be out soon. I then got a call at about 8:20 a.m. from a regional manager stating that he”d gotten an email at 7:50 a.m. about the leak and was dispatching someone. At no point in time did anyone ask me to shut off the gas. It was nearly 9:00 in the morning when a driver showed up. He found there was indeed a leak, replaced the leaking regulator, then showed my husband and I how to shut off the gas. He was surprised they didn”t tell me to shut off the gas. I was told that it was unfortunate that I called between 7 and 8 as that”s kind of a void for emergency response as the crews are arriving at the office but they are not ready to be dispatched. I had called their emergency number and there was no emergency response or even a heightened sense of alert. If I had not called back, I”m not sure they would have responded at all. The smell was strong at 7 am because of the regulator malfunction, spouting pressured gas into the atmosphere; it would dissipate and the smell would lessen, but it was still a dangerous situation. I”ve had service with them for 17 years and have never called the emergency line. I wasn”t just a nuisance caller. I don”t ever want this to happen to another family. I have tried to talk with them about it, and they just apologize that I felt stress, and don”t address the problem. The problem is there is no emergency response between 7 and 8 a.m. in the morning. This could very well happen to another family, but apparently there is nothing regulating how they handle a report for smell of gas. Their representative is apparently required to tell me how to shut off the gas but never said a word about it.

I usually don”t complain about companies, so I might not be very good at it. Here goes! Friday I called Ferrellgas and spoke with Carolyn. There”s the first complaint – she was AWESOME. She answered ALL my questions in a friendly manner. (I HATE THAT) Then, when she got to the price, she really upset me, she saved me about $200. Doesn”t she realize that times are tough and their business needs to make money too. Next, when I went into the office about 6 hours later, there were two very busy ladies behind the counter. One of them immediately said she would be with me in a moment. (I really just wanted to be ignored fo an hour, but THAT DIDN”T HAPPEN! I simply said that I had called earlier and one of the ladies, Carolyn piped up and said, “Mr Dan Parker, I have your Information right here”. Great customer service really upsets me. Well, then I looked over all the paperwork, and everything was exactly as promised. As you can guess, I was STEAMING! We set up and appointment for the next AVAILABLE day, Monday! Why can”t they make me wait 3 weeks like everyone else. The delivery driver, Shawn arrived on time. I was so looking forward to waiting around the house all day, because like everyone else, I have nothing better to do. Unfortunately, Shawn was as pleasant as Carolyn. He even opened the gate when he got here, and closed it when he left. Sitting out there for 20 minutes honking the horn would have been much more appropriate. They also didn”t force me to pay up front, but gave me an option to pay over the phone, or in person, AFTER having the tank and propane delivered. Too many Options! I wound up going in to pay, what a mistake. More great customer service. I mentioned my business, (Pre-Paid Legal Associate) and Carolyn started immediately naming contacts for me to build my business. She had the audacity to ask Service Manager, Dave to call his wife for additional contacts. (Which he did). Don”t these people realize I don”t have time to call all kinds of people who want to help me. Maybe I want to fail in buisness and let my family live on the street. I have rights too. Unfortunately, I am now under contract with Ferrellgas, so It looks like I will have to put up with this kind of customer service for a long time to come. Dan Parker
