August 8, 2019 8;PM to 9;PM Had to return to Food Basics once we discovered that we forgot the bleach worth $2.49 cents at the counter, this was aproximately 45 minutes later, upon arrival the bleach was still there, girl cashier and a man acting as store manager refused to give me my bleach unless i drive back home to retrieve reciept from my girl friend, My girl friend was in a hurry and never was given a reciept by the cashier. My family averagely spends well over $700. a month at this store location. We will not be supporting this store anymore, over $2.49 cents, I am a middle aged man, with lots of health concerns, I save my energy for the company I run, the rest of the energy being in physical pain is not going to be wasted chasing $2.49 cents, it;s the principle of the matter that counts, this is how your staff shows me how much my business is appreciated, imagine $2.49 cents verses a mittion dollars worth of bad advertising on Google and loosing my Business for a lifetime. This is lack of common sence on your acting store managers part. [protected] Donald Lafrance feel free to call me anytime, leave a message with my secretary.

Food Basics Reviews & Complaints
Food basics put products on sale and distribute fliers to households in our neighborhoods. When we go there, some of the products on sale are not available. When we ask the management, they become so rude. And empathy? Food basics don”t know this. It happened with us in last 9 years. But recently, this trend has gone up. This is simply outrageous. Food basics – the grocery company is unwanted for in this community.
Food Basics Reviews & Complaints
Food basics sold us meat that was off. We purchase groceries from food basics at your grimsby location at least once or twice a month. They do offer reasonable prices and we do enjoy the weekly specials. We were however once again shocked and disappointed that the lamb available for purchase was not up to standard. We bought it in july and even though the packet was marked as special we did not realise that the meat was about to expire to being rotten if it was not cooked and eaten on the day of purchase. We cooked the meat a month later after being kept properly frozen in our freezer along with onions, tomatoes and other expensive stew ingredients. As is started to cook we knew immediately that the meat was indeed off. It stank!!! We have grown up with lamb – we know what it should smell like and should taste like. We love lamb, but we will no longer be buying lamb from food basics or any other meat product from food basics ever again. We are too afraid that the meat might be vrot again. One needs to have confidence in your grocery store and be able to buy fresh meat even though it was offered on special.

Good Evening. I want to complain about The Basic Food Staff. I went to buy rice that was on discount with a friend to the store (2019/01/11. at 05:57 pm at cashier number 2). it said you could buy three bags per person. Then I took three and my friend too. Even before getting to the cashier, the cashier shouted at me that it was three per person. I told her it was fine because I was only going to pay three, that the other three bags were for my friend. Then the manager stepped in with a bad attitude without explaining much, he just screamed three per family!! and left, then I looked for him and told him we came together but we are not family, he wasn”t even able to listen to me, the only thing he kept saying was “three per family!” I said: “you are very mean to me, you should not take that attitude” and he just said: “I am already very polite”. what kind of attitude is that? is that the correct way to treat a customer? I am really disappointed with the staff. I just went there to buy something, they think I went there to beg?? I know you have your own policy and I respect that. but they were so unrespectful. They should be more carefully with their staff.

He following was my email to metro head office. Hello I was in your store today sept 18 2011. 3-4 pm store #937 I did my shopping as I usually do at your store and upon getting home and reviewing my receipt, I noticed an over charge on on sale chicken of 74.36. I first called the store to see if we could credit the problem back on my card, we could not. I then went to the store with the chicken in question and went to the first available cashier. Her name was jen b, a short blond woman. After 5 or so minutes of her figuring out what to do she handed me a blank form that said cash back and asked me to sign it and said it was company policy. I paid with my gold mastercard so I was unsure and confused as to why I was being asked to sign a blank paper stating cash back, I refused to sign the blank document as would anyone. She insisted and I still refused and stated that I would more than gladly sign the credit card statement for the credit to be issued. She then seems to have just lost it by stating loudly that I am an # and not just a mumble under her breath, I replied pardon and she loudly without any form of regret in front of at least 20 people or more shouted clearly # again and stated that she deals with #s like me all the time. I will admit that I was upset at the fact I had to drive all the way back to the store to deal with such a huge overcharge. My actions were not warranting of this type of public humiliation. I went in very calmly expecting a credit to be processed on my card. I was in no way disrespectful throughout her ordeal but I was firm in the fact I was not signing something that was blank, is that too much to expect? Jen b took it upon herself to disrespect me and the very customers you serve with no apparent fear of reprimand. I know this is a terrible neighborhood and full of un desirables and she must deal with some real whackos, but I am not one of those people, I am an home owner in the neighborhood, 45 years old and university educated. After me refusing to leave without my credit and signing something that is blank makes no sense and her throwing the chicken and throwing my exchanged product down the checkout ramp. Also accusing me of having my credit card when she had it throughout this whole terrifying transaction and again giving her more opportunity to lose it on me a little more. Again out of line and she was wrong. I asked jen b if she was fearful of losing her job over behaving like this by calling me an # 3 times loud and clear for all to hear and she simply stated again “I been dealing with #s like you for 5 years and I will never lose my job over an # like you”. I gave her many opportunities to calm down and perhaps take back what she was saying over and over but she seems to have no fear of being corrected for her behavior. She called someone else to authorize the credit without me having to sign some blank document again, she quickly said she needed a witness for this credit and after quite a few more minutes and terrifying attitude processed as expected a credit to my gold card which I gladly signed. Why was this not done before she lost it? It would have saved me a allot of embarrassment and perhaps her job. I am very upset and was completely shocked that this person is allowed to deal with good customers in this manner and publicly yell # at me the whole time for something so simple. I did not yell or curse or call her names at all throughout this and tried very hard not to lose it myself. I asked for a manger afterwards and another woman gave me the information. I left calmly yet extremely stressed out, it has ruined what was a perfect sunday afternoon. I”m still in shock and would expect that you will reply shortly before I go any further with this. One really upset customer, www.facebook.com/pages/Food-Basics-Complaints-Dept/286270901398527
Food Basics Reviews & Complaints
Hello, On June 16, 2018 my trip to the Food Basics at 3 Clair Road was very frightening, at approximately 1:19 I had the most shocking experience with the manager : Mr. John Deensagh. My name is Paulina Joseph, I”m 65 year old who made a quick stop to the Food Basics store at 3 Clair Road West in Guelph. I went into the store mainly to purchase lottery tickets and few items so I got the small basket instead of the shopping cart. I eventually picked up only two items: a bottle of bleach and a bottle of vinegar which I had in the basket, after I cashed out, my intention was only to use the basket to carry the heavy items closer to the cashier at the lottery counter. As soon as I bent down and get the basket, the manager reached over to me and just yanked it out of my hand while using the words ” You cannot take this basket outside the store, what are you going with this basket ? I immediately got confused since what else can anyone do with a basket in a grocery store but to shop, ? my reply to him was, ” It”s mine, I”m using it” His reply was, “this is not yours, it belongs to the Food Basic store. What was he thinking, what was really going through his head at that moment. A white lady next to me shook her head and said ” If I were a white person, this would not have happened” I now honestly think that”s so true. Coming from a manager, I expect common curtsy, respect to customers and not to ASSUME all customers are the same. I was so very confused, hurt and embarrassed, I honestly had no idea what else to think at that point but to get my stuff and leave.

Hi there, I used to work at food basics in kitchener, ontario, on fairway road. I quit three months after being there because of the lack of respect there. I was very unhappy with how they treated their staff and customers. I”m a big believer in respect. Now that I quit and it”s tax time. I went in not once, but twice and I called asking for help. They handed me a post it with a number that isn”t working and when I went in they told me “we don”t give taxes to old employees.” I am very unhappy and disappointed with the service and non help they are providing. Still to this day have not gotten my t4 from them.
Food Basics Reviews & Complaints
Hi, I am a repetitive customer at this store, often I go for shopping at this store in the evening for shopping anytime after 6:00 P.M as I am a shift worker, but for the last 2 or 3 times I have been noticing that there is only 1 regular nd 1 express counter open after 6:00 P.M even though, there are shoppers coming in and going all the times with full cart of purchases, if you have more than 8 or more items you can”t go through the express counter and you”re stuck with long tedious line up, which cause tiredness and irritation among s shoppers, the store at this location has more than 5 or 6 regular counter but they do not want intentionally open the other counter even though there are number of people waiting at the line up with full carts, even though they can”t open all the counter at the store they should at least open 1 or more additional counter to beat the traffic. Date of Incident: July 31st, 2017 at approximately 08:00 P.M Yesterday, when I went to shopping at the store around 08:00 P.M, there was only 1 counter open and 1 express, as the regular counter was full usual with 3 other peoples in front of me with full carts, I had to go through the express line up even though I had more than 10 items and I had no choice because I was in a hurry, but the customer who came after me at the express line up wasn”t happy and started trashing me with all kind of cultural and racial slurs, I should have spoke to the store manager but I ignored her comments but I wonder whose fault was that is it the store? who supposed to open additional counters according to traffic at the store or the customer, I would appreciate if famous grocery giant address the issue as soon as possible especially during summer times when the people go for shopping in the evening all the times.

I am a semi retired professional and live very close to this Food Basics hence, it is a convenient walk just to get out of the house and I generally go 2 – 3 times a week. I have noticed over the last 2 years that at least one item on my shopping list is out of stock every time I go. Whether it is chocolate milk, Nestles Hazelnut coffee cream, Almond milk, Firm Manderin Tofu, Glen Abbey egg buns or what have you, it is always something. Today it was Kellogg”s Bran Buds. I always get the flimsiest excuses including Food Basics head office forgot the order, it should be on the next truck – etc. When I ask them if they could check in the back, they either flatly refuse or they walk quickly in, turn around and come back 4 seconds later saying they checked (right!!!). They are also some of the rudest and least helpful”customer service” people I have ever met. I only go to get some exercise but more and more, I tend to have to get into a car and go elsewhere to a competitor to obtain the items I want. What I do not understand is that my items which are not in stock are obviously more in demand that the other items which are plentiful as nobody wants them. Has food Basics not heard of supply and demand? There is a senior”s home right across the street and it must be very inconvenient for them when they cannot get what they need

I have purchased a package of pork loin from food basic on the 12th of January 2019, the package stated that it”s best to expire date is 19th of January. when I took it home and opened it, it”s rotten. so I decided to take it back to the store on the 13th of January. The store manager refuses to give me a refund or store credit because I didn”t bring my credit card. He told me his name is Ahmed. I took a photo of him because I felt like I would like to keep evidence of it, he threatened me that he will call the police. This is not how your store manager should treat a customer. he should know it”s wrong to sell rotten meat to customers.

I purchased an LCBO Gift Card from Food Basics for Christmas for my Dad when he went to make a purchase he was informed there was nothing on it. It was for $50.00 it was activated by the cashier. I went back with my receipt for a refund the manager refused to do anything about it. Their customer care did an investigation and said the card had in fact been activated and it must be a faulty GC now I am out $50 this is not acceptable and not satisfying to me at all! I would like something done about this and want my money returned to me! Donna Allen [protected]

I shop regularly at food basic on merivale road in Ottawa on numerous occasions I have noticed outdated product on the shelves including most recently bread muffins and el Paso burrito mix. I understand they sell food cheaper than other retailers however it does not justify outdated product. I have also noticed meat that is at its due date as well missing dates on packaged meats. This is not new over the past few years I have seen it getting worse. It has made me more aware of th4 importance of checking dates. I am also doing this for the elderly who may not know any differently as far as fresh produce it is a hit or miss.i have noticed pineapple on the shelf that is cold to to the touch as if it was frozen to give you an example as well fresh vegetables that are on the verge of rot. I have let this go for some time but now I am fed up with throwing things out and is why I am now speaking out. So disappointed and feel cheated and I have lost my trust in this particular store. Staff on floor are not helpfull when I had lodged a concern to them. Bread should not be sitting on a shelfwhen it is days past it”s expirary date. I work in a grocery store and can tell you this is not normal practice.ps you should also check into price fixing on bread prices. Sincerely a very disappointed customer.
