Former doctor Taylor Jerman to do one year of jail time

Former Clearfield pediatrician Taylor Steven Jerman was sentenced to prison after it was found that he had downloaded child pornography on his personal computer. The 34 year old doctor will spend one year in Davis County Jail, and face a three year probationary period on Monday, May 2nd. Jerman pleaded guilty of exploiting sexually exploiting a minor two times and committing a second degree felony, on the 21st of March. The doctor was originally charged with 8 crimes, but after hearing his guilty plea, six of them were dismissed by prosecutors.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted an investigation after which Jerman was arrested in October 2014. He was released on bail after a few days, and police began their own investigation in August of the same year, according to a probable cause statement filed in the case
According to their website, Intermountain Healthcare said Jerman worked at two clinics run by McKay-Dee Hospital as a pediatrician – Northern Utah Pediatrics Clinic (Ogden) and Layton Clinic. Spokesman Chris Dallin revealed that Jerman was officially terminated from his job after his guilty plea. Right after his arrest, Jerman was suspended from work. His medical license was also suspended by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, in November 2014. Jerman had been a student of Saint Louis University School of Medicine (2009) and did his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (2009 – 2012). He completed his bachelors’ degree in psychology at Weber State University. This was the report on the 4th of May 2016.
3rd November 2014: Dr. Taylor Jerman, a pediatrician from David County, Utah, was arrested on Friday. He was jailed after police found hundreds of child pornographic images on his home computers, according to authorities. He was trusted in his profession as a pediatrician. Now, however, he has been accused of sexual exploitation of kids.
Mike Stenquist, Clearfield Police Department Assistant Chief told KUTV that the police found images of child pornography on his personal computer. He said that from what he understood, there were hundreds of images. Internet investigators served a search warrant overnight on Thursday at Jerman’s apartment. His personal computer was seized by officials, and the 34 year old physician was also arrested on the same day. Sergeant Stenquist said that there was no evidence at that time to show that the child porn images from his computer was related to Jerman’s medical practice. He was quotes as saying that all the images were on his personal computer.
Jerman had been working at an Intermountain Healthcare clinic in Layton since January. Authorities also visited the clinic as part of the investigation procedure. Chris Dallin, spokesperson of Intermountain Healthcare (IHC) told KUTV that they were deeply concerned by the allegations against Jerman. He also informed KUTV that the doctor had been suspended, and will be suspended until the investigation is over.
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) which oversees a wide range of professions including physicians, said that it was investigating the case. It added that it was currently viewing its options with regards to the licenses of Dr. Jerman. Prior to Friday’s arrest, he had not had any disciplinary actions taken against him, according to the DOPL.
Jerman graduated in 2009 from the St. Louis University School of Medicine. He was a resident physician from 2009 to 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics according to IHC. He also did a 3 month stint at the University of Utah as an adjunct instructor. Jason also apparently cleared a bunch of background checks before he got a medical license, achieve his position at the IHC clinic and even to live in his apartment.
He could get out of prison if he paid $20,000 out of his pocket. This information comes from an inmate roster website of the Davis County Jail. It states that Jerman’s bondable bail is $200,000.
27th July 2015: 24 year old Dr. Taylor Jerman of Clearfield appeared on Monday in 2nd District Court with Camille Neider, his attorney. He pleaded not guilty to 8 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all of which are second degree felonies. His next hearing has been scheduled for the 31st of August.
22nd March 2016: Taylor Jerman, a pediatrician from Davis County pleaded guilty to downloading and sharing child pornography on Monday. The 35 year old was charged in November 2014 with 8 counts of second degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor in 2nd District Court. On Monday, he pleaded guilty to 2 of these charges. The 0ther 6 were then dismissed. He now faces up to 15 years in jail on each count. He will be judged on the 2nd of May by Judge Michael Allphin.
