Groupon sends out emails advertising their discounts. They don’t care that the discount coupons that they are marketing to you are for companies that do not do business in your area. I purchased a Groupon for a lawn care company for $52. I did not have time to get the lawn care scheduled for about a month after my purchase. When I finally got in touch with the lawn care company, they told me that they don’t work in my area (even though their google map showed that they did). I contacted Groupon’s customer service to get my money back. At first they denied my request, citing some stupid three day rule. Then, when I was not satisfied with that answer, they told me that “just this one time” they would give me “groupon credit” for about half of the money that I paid them. I have been a groupon customer for about a year, but now that I know their unfair business practices, I will not ever use their services again. I have used other online coupon companies that gladly refunded the money that I paid if I had not used the coupon. How is it that you can return an item to a brick and mortar store and expect a refund on your return of an unused item, but Groupon thinks they can make their own rules? According to Utah law (the state I reside in), a company must make good on the full purchase price of any gift card that has been purchased and it is illegal to refuse the customer because of some arbitrary expiration date. The fact is that you have given money to somebody for a service. If that service is no longer needed by the customer, or if you didn’t request a refund by some deadline, they have to give you the money back that you paid for that gift card or they are just flat out stealing customer’s money. Please, don’t use this fraudulent company!!!! PS – they conveniently took down the Groupon for the company that I purchased mine through (Lawn Doctor). .
