I have an insurance agency. I got a call from some guy in California who claimed he was looking for insurance on a residential property in Illinois. | At first he didn’t give me any information about himself or what he wanted. He spent at least 10 minutes telling me how smart he is, and how he knows everything about insurance and everything else. Then he wasted even more time interrogating me about the companies I represent, and answering his own questions before I could even breathe. | After about 15 minutes of listening to this guy convince himself that he’s a genius who knows everything, I interrupted him and asked what I could do for him. He said he had a residential property in Illinois and needed insurance for it. After spending more time talking about himself, I interrupted him again and said I can’t help him without some information. I asked him for the property address and he reluctantly gave me an address. I asked for his name, birthdate and address, and he gave me his name and business (I assume) address, as Joe Hale of Signal Hill, California. | After I got off the phone, I spent 2 hours searching for the address to his rental property, and found it does not exist. | A few days later I received a call from the same guy–he has a very distinctive way of speaking so you get to know his voice–and he immediately started the fast-talking mind-numbing rant about how great he is. I said wait a minute, didn’t you call me the other day? He was silent for what was probably the first time in his life, and I said “yeah, you’re Joe Hale”. He quickly hung up. | I googled this guys name and found he has ripped off dozens of people. Watch out for this guy. If he’d commit insurance fraud, he’d do just about anything else. Whatever he wants from you, you won’t get paid for your work. I’m hoping the police or FBI gets tired of this guy and hauls him in.
