I have been with the Knights of Columbus for over nine years now. Both my son (who was 2 at the time and is 11 now) And myself have insurance with them. While deciding to have this insurance, the agent explained to me how much the dividend would be for my son when he reached 22 saying he would have over one hundred thousand dollars in dividends.. I asked him repeatedly “Is that true?” he said repeatledly that it was! I still was not convinced and asked again.. “Is this true because it looks to good to be true?” And again he said it is!! And so I signed on thinking, this is great I don’t have to worry about my sons education it is taken care of now!! Low and behold it is now 9 years later I called to check how much we have in dividends and my son (who was suppose to have the one hundered thousand at age 22) only has 800 dollars in dividends. I asked how can this be? Seeing it has already been 9 years making him 11 so there is only 11 years left, how can he get that amount if in nine years he only has 800? The lady on the phone, who was not only the rudest lady ever, told me that at age 22 he will have about 3,000 to 5,000 in dividends only! So not only was this a lie from the start but also fraud.. He sold me insurance saying this will be what I can expect and it was nothing like it!! Nowhere was I told when I signed up for this insurance that my son will not get this amount, the agent even showed me proof on his computer how the dividends work and how his will work for him!! So seeing it on screen in black and white made me believe it.. Now I have to find another way to make sure my sons education is taken care of.. Or is there something I can do? .

The Knights of Columbus, a Christian, Family,
The Knights of Columbus, a Christian, Family, Fraternal, Service organization is actually a front for a tax exempt Insurance Company who doesn’t care for its members. As a member of the KofC I have volunteered countless hours of charitable service in their name to our community. Helping others is always rewarding to me. HOWEVER, when I applied for their INSURANCE (that is always pushed) I was told that since I have had some medical problems in the past that I din’t qualify for life insurance through the organization. Remember, this is an organization that only exists because there are millions of members doing millions of hours of charitable work in their name so they (the Insurance arm) can keep their tax exempt status. My beef is this! Since I am partly responsible through my chairitable works, for their keeping a tax exempt status and reducing their overhead, why don’t I AUTOMATICALLY qualify for their insurance? I look at it this way. If I were employed by a large firm who provided insurance to their employees. EVERY employee, including me, would be covered. Rates may be higher, but covered nonetheless. I feel strongly that if I’m good enough to raise money for them, they should be REQUIRED to quilify me for insurance coverage. I have spoke with numerous “agents” of theirs regarding my position, and the answer is always the same. “I agree, but there’s nothing I can do” I feel that in regard to the Insurance wing of this organization that their Tax Exempt status should be investigated, and removed since the K of C is in my opinion only an Insurance Company covering as a chairitable organization so they can enjoy unearned profits!
