My rental management company was notified by the tenant that the AC was not working on Aug. 12th 2013 and that there was a power outage in which the electricity was disrupted 3 times consecutively. I instructed her to call a local heating/ac specialist to investigate/repair the problem in Mechanicsville, VA. Lakeside Heating and AC of Richmond, VA looks at the unit promptly that morning and provides 2 estimates. First is to replace the compressor at $1994.00 with a 1 year warranty, with the alibi that the circuit board may still be bad but they couldn’t tell without fixing the compressor. The second is to replace the whole outside unti for $2336.00 with a 5 year warranty. Gasping at the price, I drive down there that afternoon. Upon investigation I notice that the capacitor is slightly swollen. I drive over to Axxxxx and pruchase a replacement for $13.42 (thirteen dollars and forty two cents), install the component in about 5 minutes and turn on the AC which begins working fine. The tenant indicated the repair person was there less than 10 minutes. Incompetent, lazy, and attempted fraud ? Beware I call the company and they proceed to lie saying that they replaced the capacitor and the unit would not work. They also claim the service technician tested the compressor and it would not work. My rental management company said they have never had a problem with them and they have installed several new units for them, I told her I bet they have! The AC is still working fine….
