The day that my young niece had a laser cataract surgery was one of the saddest days in our lives. My husband and I, both had our cataract surgery a few years back but we were always under the impression that cataract was only something that inflicted those who were aging. So when my 34 year old niece told us during the last Christmas dinner that she had developed cataract and had to undergo surgery for it, we were very concerned and worried. However, she told us she had heard about this new laser cataract surgery which used no blades at all and was supposed to be very effective. She was quite relaxed when I called her the night before the surgery to wish her luck. However, the next night, we could only talk to her husband when we called and he sounded a bit concerned. The next thing we know was that after her bandage had been removed she had next to nothing visibility in her right eye, for which she had opted for the surgery. The condition only worsened gradually and she is all but sightless in that eye, making out only very bright blobs of color and a hint of movement. The doctors who performed the procedure are refusing to be held accountable in any way arguing that it was not a manual procedure in the first place. She and her husband are now desperately contacting the best eye specialist in the country, who would be able to undo the harm done to her, only if partially. The procedure had not only cost them a lot of money, but it would also cost her career as she is a microbiologist and her eyesight is of paramount important in her profession. The Laser Eye care center is a complete scam it seems, as far as their new techniques go.
