I am a senior clinical psychologist and Emeritus Professor of Psychology. My training includes B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh with internship in Veterans Affairs Hospitals. I completed specialized postdoctoral training in behavior modification at Stony Brook University. My orientation is cognitive behavioral therapy emphasizing changing current problematic behaviors. Medications are rarely recommended in this approach. My experience includes working with a variety of clients and supervising doctoral trainees in outpatient and inpatient settings and university counseling centers. Problems in living are behavioral excesses or deficits impacting personal functioning, e.g., social relationships, sexual functioning, work, home responsibilities, personal values, parenting, & life decisions. Evidence-based techniques include coping strategies, relaxation training, eliminating negative thinking, assertive training, reasonable goal setting.Life brings stressors to everyone, often unpredictably. Via active listening, a genuine, nonjudgmental and caring interview style, and even humor, we can together determine the most important issues for you at this time. We will then discuss the way to achieve the changes that will result in a more adaptive and pleasurable pattern of life behaviors.
