Luckily, I have not engaged further than asking for more information about this listing, because I had my doubts early on. First of all, the e-mail address used for the response back is different than the e-mail address I had sent a short e-mail to. That’s a huge sign for me that something is off. Second of all, the leaser would use Rental Verified, which isn’t a verified website for background checks in the US (Experian, TransUnion and Equifax are the ones to go with; possible also for free once annually through www.annualcreditreport.com). The third sign is that this leaser said she is willing to work with bad credits too, which is contradicting my experience with apartment homes. Nobody I contacted wants to work with bad credits in the Asheville area, even if you yourself have a good credit and your roommate or spouse has the bad credit. So be careful. Finally, the deal simply sounded too good to be true. A 3 bed/1 bath with 1350ft² for $775 is nothing near the regular local prices. I am glad I googled Rental Verified and found a report on multiple scams extremely similar to this one; almost word for word, but in different states (CA being one of them). This is the e-mail response I got: First of all, thank you so much for taking a look at my property. The closets are large, the bedrooms are comfortable, and the windows let in alot of natural light. This 3 bedrooms 1.0 baths rental has not had any pets in the past but is currently pet friendly. It is free of any stains, smells, or odors. We do not have any breed restrictions and there is no fee or deposit. If your pet does damage to the rental, it is up to you to make any repairs. To rent our property we ask for the following: 1. Valid Driver’s License or Photo ID 2. Lease Agreement (month to month, 6 months, or 1 year) 3. First months rent 4. Background check for each applicant Background checks can be done online using Rental Verified: link. If you have a criminal record or bad rental history, no worries, I’ll help you out. There are many more reasons to visit the rental. It is well maintained and the kitchen will make you feel right at home. Comes with a washer and dryer as well as being located in a amazing community. I will bring the lease agreement with me to the walk thru. I also require background checks to be completed by all applicants. When you’re done with your background check and are ready to setup a walk thru, let me know. It’s in a .pdf file and you can print it and bring to the showing or email it to me.
