DR. BARBARA E. COUGHLIN VETERINARIAN KELOWNA VETERINARY HOSPITAL (1981) INC. 1955 KENT ROAD, KELOWNA, B.C. CANADA V1Y 7S6 (250) 860-2408 MISSIONHILL PERSIANS & EXOTICS I would not hesitate to recommend purchase of cats from this cattery – they are healthy, well socialized, and in good condition. The cattery is an exceptional example of a well designed, well cared for facility that meets and exceeds cattery standards of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the Cat Fancier’s Association. I certify that Missionhill Persians &Exotics complies with and exceeds the requirements of CFA’s Cattery Standards to qualify for a CATTERY OF EXCELLENCE. The standards include the following: 1. The cattery is physically connected to the private residence, is structurally sound and is maintainted in good repair to protect the cats from injury and overexposure to the elements and restricts the entrance of other animals. 2. There are seven floor to ceiling enclosures constructed of PVC covered meshing, ranging in size from 9’H x 7’W x 6’L to 9’H x 8’W x 6’L. 3. Top quality soft food, raw as well as canned, is fed twice a day and dry food is available at all times. Fresh water is available at all times and the containers are washed twice a day. Food and water dishes are kept separate from each other and located at a distance from the litter boxes. 4. Litter boxes are placed throughout the house and cattery and are cleaned twice a day. They are washed and sanitized frequently. 5. Supplies of food, bedding and interior building surfaces are maintained in a sanitary manner. 6. Food is transported, handled and stored in a manner that ensures against the introduction of parasites, disease vectors (such as insects) and chemical contaminants. Supplies of food are stored in an area that is cool, dry and free of vermin and other potential contaminants. Refrigeration is provided for supplies of perishable food. 7. The facility is adequately heated and cooled to protect the cats from excessive cold and heat and a built-in air exchanger helps to keep the cattery fresh and free of odours. The ambient temperature is maintained in a range that ensures that the cats are comfortable at all times. 8. The facility is provided with a source of fresh air by means of windows, doors and vents and is ventilated in a manner that minimizes drafts, odors and moisture conditions. 9. The facility has ample light of good quality by natural and artificial means. The lighting provides uniformly distributed illumination to permit routine inspection, cleaning and provide for the well-being of the cats. The cats are protected from excessive illumination. 10. There is sufficient shade to allow cats to shelter from the direct rays of the sun. 11. There is a separate room attached to the main cattery for bathing and grooming the cats.12. When cats spend time in an enclosed outdoor facility there is access to shade and shelter to allow them to remain cool and dry at all times. 13. Any cats showing illness or disease are given prompt veterinary attention. 14. All cats and kittens are vaccinated under veterinary advice. 15. The cats are groomed and bathed regularly and do not have any mats in their coats. 16. The cats are extremely well treated and given plenty of social time. The majority run free in the house and only breeding males are confined to the cattery on a permanent basis. Date: July 14, 2014 BARBARA E. COUGHLIN R.N., B.Sc., D.V.M.
