Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens & Sculpture Park

Not worth the price they charge.

My kids and I went to Na Aina gardens expecting to have a good time but ended up getting exhausted and bored. This is the thing that everybody has to know: This is a private domain, NOT an open public garden. There are no signs that show direction and the trees and flowers are not labelled with their names. There are just a few times when you are allowed to tour the private domain every week. Check the website online to reserve spot although the website is not well made and lacks information about the place you can make reservations at. Like most gardens, it’s not exactly education-oriented as the other nursery in the south shore so planning a trip here isn’t that fascinating. The event manager and the tour guide here is unprofessional and unresponsive to your curiosities. They are in their world and lack knowledge about the garden and the whole place. This place is overpriced and very ordinary. We went on the kid\’s tour, which was a 60-min voyage through the principle of formal gardens and 60 min open play in the children zone. They charge $110 for two grown-ups and two children (5 yrs and 1yr), on a dense rendition of the full 3-5 hr visit, with certain gardens overlooked, this included the shoreline garden, desert garden, and expected more.
We paid so much but still did not get to tour all the gardens because they were under maintenance. The tour guide did not even let the kids feed the koi when other gardens allow that without any problems. It was very difficult to engage the kids as nothing was exciting to get them attracted. We burned through $200 to stroll around some rich individual\’s decorated garden and after that played at a mushy produced play area. Most importantly, the two volunteers who were our tour guides, Pat and Carol, were exceptionally discourteous and antagonistic and made our trip dull and boring. Unfortunately, they were not entirely knowledgeable about the plants, and they didn’t have much material to work with because there is nothing much to show in the garden area. The gift shop seems very shabby and it needs renovation. The handcrafted jewellery is of low quality and is overly expensive. The gift shop looks more like a museum than a gift shop. Our guide Carol who gave us the beach tour was very inconsiderate and talked down to us many times. She did not have much to narrate and wrapped up our tour in less than 10 minutes. We paid so much and did not even get to see the orchids and lotus flowers. The admission fee is $50 and I think they are asking for too much and offering too little. I do not recommend this place because it\’s overpriced and there is nothing notable and special.
