At the end of October I ordered a bag of Purina Cat Chow indoor formula for my cats. It was mid November (almost Thanksgiving) when I opened the bag and began feeding it to my anmals. They became immediately ill. Vomiting everywhere, bloody poop from one end of my kitchen to the other. 2 were sicker than the rest so the Monday before Thanksgiving my boyfriend and I took them to the Long Beach Vet Hospital. Hours later we were discharged only knowing it was something they ingested. These 2 cats ate ONLY the Purina food they refuse people food of any kind. Well I gave them fluids with a syringe every 2.5 hours around the clock. Tuesday night I fed Shadow and cuddled her. We fell asleep that way. I slept through the alarm I had set for 3 am. When I woke up the next morning Shadow was DEAD in my arms. Shadow took her first breath of life when she was born IN MY HANDS then she took her last breath in my arms. Her remains will return from the crematory today. Her half sister, also named Sister was still VERY sick. I continued giving her fluids then on Black Friday I took her to a different vet hospital. They admitted her on the spot and had the eunthanizing talk with me she was that sick. She had lost so much blood they gave her a transfusion. I STAYED at the vet hospital all night, visiting with her 10 minutes every hour. Her home care required SEVERAL medications along with IV fluids injected subcutaneously. My life revolved around her care and still does. She still has medication to take, still gets the fluids. Last week the vet wanted to do a 2nd blood transfusion. I already have a 2500 vet bill to pay so to ask for another 700 to be added I asked if he thought her body might replace it on its own. He said we will give it 1 more week – 3 days ago her body temp was NORMAL that mean her body is replacing the needed blood and tomorrow I will know if she still needs the transfusion. I have 2 more cats vomiting randomly and have been since they ate the Purina Cat Chow Indoor Formula. The food is kept in an air tight and water tight bucket. They cannot get to it and I am baffled as to why they would still be vomiting since they are on a prescritption food the vet ordered to flush the toxins out. I contacted the FDA and they have already eceived Sister’s medical records and will get the records for the other 3 cats as well. I have also made a complaint with the BBB and got a leter from them that the matter has been referred to the local branch where the Purina headquarters is. I filed a complaint with the USDA via their website but have yet to hear from them. Sister gets better and stronger every day but Shadow never had that chance…… PLEASE HELP ME AND OTHER PET PARENTS who have been hurt by Purina’s toxic food!!!!! They must be held accountable for the pets they have hurt and KILLED.
