In today’s world, it is important to have knowledge of any form of defensive arts such as Karate, Taekwondo, etc. not for feeling superior or strong, but to feel safe and secure. I have a son who is 17 years old and as a father, it was my duty to get him enrolled in a training program for his own safety and well-being. After searching for centres and facilities for a few weeks, I decided to go for New England Martial Arts Athletic Center. I got him enrolled in the ‘Teen Martial Arts Program’ as it seemed suitable for him to train among students of his own age group.
Throughout the process of the admission, all of the staff members along with the masters were so helpful and understanding. I was happy and was sure that this was the right environment for my son to train in.
On the very first day, my son came home all roughed up. On enquiring, I got to know that he was bullied by a group of boys for being skinny and ‘not being strong enough’. Upon meeting the master, I was given a guarantee that something like this would never happen again. I had my doubts since that day. I was also given the assurance that the matter would be ‘looked into’ but it did not happen.
Over the next few weeks, I noticed a drastic change in my son’s behaviour. Instead of being mentally aware, focused and attentive, he had become rude, restless and inattentive. He even started violently punching the walls in his room in fits of rage. This got me worried. I contacted the Center hoping to talk about this but my request was not paid heed to.
One evening, my son’s friend called me and told me that my son had got into a fight with a local boy. I could not take it anymore. Without an appointment, I went to the centre and confronted the master about my son’s changed behaviour to which he replied – “It is okay to have rage inside. It helps us get ahead in life. He is not weak anymore like he used to be”. In front of all the students, I stood stunned as I could not believe my ears. He said that it was necessary to get into a fight with that local boy because “If you have power, you should show it as it keeps people scared”. I realized my mistake and got my son out of that wretched place. I even sent a handwritten letter complaining about the inhumane lessons that were being imparted and demanding the firing of the master.
No action was taken and that master is still working there, spewing venom with his mouth and polluting the minds of all the other innocent kids.
This world needs positive people who impart knowledge based on positivity and goodness and not on negativity. I would strongly suggest everyone not to go to that place where there is not even a bit of humanity in the teachers.
