A poorly kept place. It ruined our trip.

My family and I decided to visit Dawes Arboretum for a recreational trip. Dawes is a medium size park. The park was charging $10 per individual. In no way, shape or form is the visit worth $10 per individual thinking about what different alternatives can be had for $10 or less.
Another alternative is to check in with the Newark open library which offers a limited number of free passes to the park. The walking trails are not worth mentioning, some paved while others were unnatural.
Spring weather caused some muddy spots which were difficult to walk on. The learning centre in the lower level of the visitor centre was of a low standard. There was no variety of species and the species available were not taken care of properly. There are simply no trash containers anywhere on trails. It was astonishing to see zero bathrooms on the trail.
Considering it is a public place you should keep that in mind. The main attraction of this place is known to be the Japanese Gardens but to be honest nothing extraordinary for me. I happened to see a few people painting pictures of the pond and gardens.
We moved a little further, took a short walk later and we were in a bald Cyprus swamp. It was a task to walk carefully. There isn’t much to see here. You will find tons of not so maintained plants all over the area. We decided to do an auto visit! The auto visit should have been a wonderful path for those with constrained versatility to get out and appreciate nature without focusing on a long stroll through the forested areas. But the auto visit does not take you to the whole park. Let me warn you, It’s dangerous to leave your vehicle and explore whatever area interests you because I could sense a lot of suspicious people around that area. The picnic food we brought was stolen, Can you believe it? The Dawes House and Museum are open for visits for a large number of bucks which is again a disappointment. A lot of people brought their pets inside and they kept urinating on plants, few others brought their bicycles which kept disturbing us from time to time.
I was appalled to see that people had no respect for plants. If you think it\’s okay to enter the flower beds or climb the trees you\’re an idiot and shouldn\’t be allowed there, but sadly no security was there taking care of the area. In the visitor centre, there\’s a taxidermy exhibit and some educational materials. There\’s also the gift shop. A tunnel leads to the east side. This is not as well taken care of and it is harder to get around so you need a permit to get here. All in our entire trip was very boring, pricy and no less than a headache.
