I am low on Vitamin D and the Dermatology and Laser Group advised tanning. To begin with, UV rays are carcinogenic, very much like cigarette smoke. So does that mean that smoking a lot of cigarettes will up my vitamin D? I mean mutation in my skin is too big a price to pay for some vitamin D.
To the skin cells, every burn and tan is a damage to the cellular network. And it starts working to repair all the damage. When this keeps repeating, it leads to cellular mutation and that ultimately causes cancer. There is a reason why sunscreens are manufactured by so many different companies. It was atrocious of the Dermatology and Laser Group to suggest tanning to increase my level of vitamin D in my body.
Also if your skin is prone to acne, tanning can even dry and irritate and burn your skin. It can mask the irritation and redness from acne fir sometime. But later it makes the whole condition even worse.
There are so many side effects that tanning can cause. I don’t know such a reputed dermatologist centre as the Dermatology and Laser Group advised tanning for my vitamin D. Tanning also causes premature ageing and eye problems such as cataracts. It is a good thing that I knew about all the side effects of tanning and hence did not subject myself to this process. I would strongly advise that you refrain from consulting the Dermatology and Laser Group.
