Trent’s pattern of operating is to complete 3/4ths of the job AND QUIT. It’s his way of blackmailing you in to putting up more money. “He’ll finish when you pay his expected profit.” The written contract was profit determined when it was sold. I hired someone else to finish the job. Trent then filed a lien on my personal residence. When he found that was illegal, he shopped lawyers until he found one that didn’t check the facts. Trent changed the partnership agreement to a contractors lien, for his “expected profit.” I lost $96,000 on the job but he wants his profit. His lawyer told him he had no grounds, but the lien is on the property. To sell the property I had to pay his expected profits in to Court. Trent says if he can’t have it ALL, then nobody can have it. He never supported his figures or estimates. As soon as the contract was filed he told me to shut up and put up, and told me on Day 2 of the job he would sue me for questioning him. Notice there is no financial liability in his name. Three months after he quit, he emptied the bank account. I know of two other cases that this exact same thing happened, and I heard of two other cases.
